SImple for me its the Regulated FX500 for me the power is perfect for raccoon sized and smaller game 100yrds and in. It has a huge shot count and is easy on air. I really like the stock. It is very quite as is no help needed. and with the 3 stage power adjuster I can dial it down anytime. ANd last but MOST IMPORTANT it is Crazy accurate!!!! Thanks for the compliment.
IT was a huge success I went from 33 shots and a 3600 PSI fill to 44 shots with a 2700 psi fill. My accuracy is awsome is much improved now. I also have been doing test with higher FPS but they pertian to 25 cal accuracy wiht the JSBS in MY ranger starts to detierorate above 900 FPS. I have tried many deffrernt power levels. Now Polymags seem to be able to handle higher FPS. I had nice results in the mid 9s but that is hunting accuracy not target accuracy, The huntsman is a fine rifle.
Ya it can its more a matter of how good it will shoot at that power level. If it likes the HNFTT pellets then it will be easy to do it. You will need a softer hammer spring and custom bushing and that is about it.
Yes you can put a smaller hammer spring bushing in or a ligher hammer spring. That will lower the fill pressure as well as the FPS. IT doesnt take alot I have found about 1/16th inch shoter bushing gets about 30 less FPS and lowers the fill pressure 200-300 PSI. hope that helps let me know. JIm
Thanks for this excellent video on power adjustment for my new Air Ranger. Mine is set for 50 fpe in .25 caliber, but I intend to shoot hollow point slugs at 45 grains. I was wondering how to get the fps up to where the big slugs needed to be. Sounds like 880 fps is achievable...may use a bit of air in the doing....(snort!)
thnx mate thats clear now, can you also adjust the power with a lon allen key through the rear of the gun? clockwise more power anti clockwise less power?
YA open up the the hole that is drilled to the barrel for the transfer port. The NEW Air Ranger doesnt have the bushing anymore. and they changed the hammer some. I just tuned one that was really anemic in the power area. by doing that. it is easy to do just remove the breech and barrel assembly like in my vid take out the trasfer port and then you will see the barrel and the hole go up slowly a little goes a long ways. hope that helps
YOu can get some power adjustment out of the hammer stroke adjustment but not much from what I have found. Its more for fine tuning and adjusting fill pressure than power adjustment,
I have found the best accuracy with 15.89 Grain JSB Pellet and a peak velocity at 890 at the most. I fill to keep the shot string at 860-885-860 for 24 shots.
Hey Jim,you tune this on what power and also how many shot per fill on 230 Bar?What if I tune my gun on 45PFE can I still getting a good shot per fill and is what is the most accuracy power in pfe on this gun?Mind is 50pfe.Thanks in advance.
By how much did the shot count increase at the new 43 fpe pwr? Would you rate the modification a success? How did it turn out? I'm thing about the possibility of buying a Huntsman XL 177 and detuning it to 14 fpe.
MIne is currently set to 44 shots with a 2700 psi fill 880 ave 43.69 FPE shot string is 870-890-870 with 25.4 JSB pellets, My accuracy is awsome is much improved now. I also have been doing test with higher FPS but they pertian to 25 cal accuracy wiht the JSBS in MY ranger starts to detierorate above 900 FPS. I have tried many deffrernt power levels. Now Polymags seem to be able to handle higher FPS. I had nice results in the mid 9s but that is hunting accuracy not target accuracy,
sir, after viewing a few of your videos, you have some great air rifles. I want to buy one but feeling indecisive. If you could only keep one of your rifles, which would it be?
hi jimmy; is it hard to make those bushings i think mine is broken also the spring part that faces the back towards the safety theres no bushing there either just spring thanks
Hi Jim i need a hand if you have a moment, my huntsman xl .22 has a SWP of 230 but at 230 the power curve just drops steadily every shot( 18.13 jsb) on the crony with no apparent sweet spot , i gave Daystate a call and they suggested i fill to 245 and not 230 to flattern the curve this means the minute i hit the yellow on the gauge it starts to drop i tried adjusting the hammer throw distance but it made very little difference, any ideas on how i can flatten the curve out a bit ?
Hi I already own an air ranger @ 30ft lb energy. I wanted at least another 15 ft lbs. I can follow your video very well, But technically do your instructions apply to 30ft lbs, or are there replacements needed, for me to achieve 45ft lbs. Thanks
Hi Jim, eventually got round to try and increase the power of my Ranger but was meet with a few problems was wondering if u can help, first when I removed spring no bushing then when I replaced spring for a longer and stronger one no real power change when I crono it any suggestions?? Thanks
cricket mate you say when the spring has more tention the gun has more power yet you put in a shorter bush which equals less spring tention bit confused mate? any idea what the gun was before and after the new bush? cheers
hi jimmy; where do you get your springs and bushings. i am having a problem with my fps.. when daystate huntsman regal was fairly new i use to get an average fps of 870 or pretty close to that with a max of about 908 now my max is 777fps not a bit higher and by the time i shoot a string of 45 to 50 it down to 610 fps there's really something wrong never changed anything no air leaks that i can see can you help me out thanks
I have a 22 cal that I want to sell -it is too powerful for where I live. How much are your bushings? And what will the power be after installing them?
Hi Jim . I want to buy an used air ranger 50 FPE. I would like to use it for hunting but sometimes will be used in my back yard, Can it be detuned to 26-30 FPE?
Hello do you sell your bushes as I am very interested in doing the same to my rifle but don't have the facilities to make them I look forward to hearing back from you shortly
Aye jimineecricket. Those little buggers you mentioned came out ok..but the screws holding the breach on are a funny shape (their triangular heads ) how do I get them out ..my gun ..12 lbs huntsman classic.
Good evening Jim. I have recently bought a daystate air ranger 400cc bottle, I'm in the uk so it's sub 12ftlb. My questions are, is all the workings the same just like the American market? Nobody sells longer or harder hammer springs in the uk. It's .22 and I'm looking to ump the power to about 28-30 ftlb just for abit more kick down power. Would you be able to sell me a spring and a bushing for me to hit that 30ftlb mark, without altering any fill pressure? So I can still fill the gun to 190 bar and get still roughly 70-100 shots per fill? Thank you, and kind regards Jake.
I take it that is not the"extreme" airranger. The reason I ask is i have the"extreme" and the only pellet it doesn't spiral is there 36grain twenty-five's that cost $32 a damn box. And while i like the power. I would like to be able to shoot a lighter pellet. But don't want to screw up my gun.I was told that I can adjust the hammer throw have you worked on any? Well thanks for your time.
No its not the Extreme but it is the same inside. The Hammer Throw will help some but not much. Mostly will just lower your fil pressure and shot count. I would suggest casting your own boolits for it or if you really want to shoot pellets then detune like I did my ranger. My Ranger would HIt 70 FPE with the shorter barrel with the extreme barrel it would easily hit 80 + FPE shooting pellets too fast makes them spiral sadly, Hope it helps. Id be glad to tune it for you.
That key is a standard PC (personal computer) key. A generic part. I have thousands of them. Don't count on it at all for keeping any one from using your gun. Switch it on, put the key in the case it came with, and forget about it. BTW, they are useless for keeping an
Hi man just sorted the power out on my Huntsman, made a bushing out of a hose connector which works well but I'd rather put one in like the ones you made, would you sell me a few of them bushings I would like quite a thick one, like the original one you took out. I would pay what ever and postage as I don't have a lathe to make them up myself.
teh smaller the bushi g the less teh tension my Ranger shot 60 Foot Pounds of Energy wiht the original Bushing. The new smaller bushing makes 43 Foot Pounds of Energy. SO less tension less Power
Yup that definitely helps getting some bushes made up right now (-; thanks for all the detail its a huge help.
Thanks for the video. Great work..
Great Rifle Choice congrats!!!!
your welcome glad to have helped.
Thanks I appreciate the kind comments!

nice video easy to understand
very nice and great video...
Great instructional video, thank you. I hope you enjoyed your chicken!!
I'm about to get a Huntsman XL in .22 cal. This at some point will more than likely come in very handy.
thank you good info

can you do this while the rifle is fully charged? and is it exactly the same for the huntsman classic? regards john
Thanks !

My Ranger was the 50 FPE version. It came to me running 60 FPE with 31gr Barracudas, I can get 70 FPE down to 18FPE with bushing and or spring change.
thnx mate thats clear now, can you also adjust the power with a lon allen key through the rear of the gun? clockwise more power anti clockwise less power?

Hi , and very educational video you got there, does it work with 177 as well???
Hey man great vid. Do you know the sizes of the bushings please. And when I come to make mine do they need the hole in the center? Thank you.
YOu can get some power adjustment out of the hammer stroke adjustment but not much from what I have found. Its more for fine tuning and adjusting fill pressure than power adjustment,
so is it a longer or stiffer spring or longer bushing to up the power and a shorter one and thinner bushing to reduce power? yes?
Yes either get a stronger spring or longer bushing. THere is a limit to the lenght of bushing you can put in.
yes you can do it with the rifle charged and yes it is the same for the current moble Huntsman.
Just put a stronger spring in!😉
Also work on the transfer ports and increase hammer weight.
You're welcome.
I have found the best accuracy with 15.89 Grain JSB Pellet and a peak velocity at 890 at the most. I fill to keep the shot string at 860-885-860 for 24 shots.
Hi there how many fps do you set your huntsman to and with what grain pellet do you use ? I'm trying to get max accuracy on mine.

What's with the psychedelic table cloth?
Is it to make finding things more of a challenge ,or is it to give viewers a migraine?

hi, i have the old midas daystate approx 1980s. is it the same as in this video? The thicker the top of the bush the more power?
Hi Jim, are you saying to increase the power of the Ranger you increase the size of the spring and bush.
sir, after viewing a few of your videos, you have some great air rifles. I want to buy one but feeling indecisive. If you could only keep one of your rifles, which would it be?
great vid; how do i take out the hammer and spring on a daystate huntsman regal .22 so could use the help thanks
hi jimmy; is it hard to make those bushings i think mine is broken also the spring part that faces the back towards the safety theres no bushing there either just spring thanks
hi jim. just got a new air ranger 12ft/lb version in .177. can i increase the power by changing the bushing to thicker one like ur vid.
Hi I've an x2 sub 12 would this increase the ftb on the rifle?? Any body help me hear please.

Right now I'm going for coyote so I want the foot pounds but after this winter and maybe spring if I can't get it tuned I'll send it to you. Thanks
No problem good luck hunting yotes! shoot as many as you can.
I have a 22 cal that I want to sell -it is too powerful for where I live.
How much are your bushings? And what will the power be after installing them?
Can you do this to an older Harrier and does the air have to be released?
I purchased one Air Ranger extreme 108 Joules
where can I find the bushings to put on the hammer spring?
Thank you, your videos have helped me.
I am after the same thing man, as I don't have a lathe I've asked Jim if he would sell me a few.
Hi Jim . I want to buy an used air ranger 50 FPE. I would like to use it for hunting but sometimes will be used in my back yard, Can it be detuned to 26-30 FPE?
How much more bushing is needed to take a daystate midas from 12 ft/lbs to maximum???
Hey Jimmy where do you get the extra springs. are you still on board thanks
Anyone know how to tighten the trigger assembly on an air ranger mine is slightly loose!
Yes it should be pretty much the same.
Wat flbs was the gun running at wen u did the bushing mods
Would this work on a 12fbl daystate x2

Burning Rubber any luck?
did you not drill the transfer port
with all this changes how many ftlb you reach?cheers

HI jIMEE how to strip a huntsman classic 177 FAC
This alone ill only affect the accuracy because you must alter the hammer I have been told now your gun will be inconsistent

martin turner yes mate
Marco Giove Thank you for your fast reply
My safety has come off my huntsman rifle can any one give me any advice in why this happend
That I do not know. sorry I get about 30 FPS for every 1/16th of a inch longer.
Ok great thanks ill set mine the same then (-;
Would this work on a 12fbl daystate x2 feel free to pm me
martin turner any lucky?
teh smaller the bushi
g the less teh tension my Ranger shot 60 Foot Pounds of Energy wiht the original Bushing. The new smaller bushing makes 43 Foot Pounds of Energy. SO less tension less Power
so basically make the spring weaker and you get more fps?????? answer
no stiffer stranger spring makes more power
jimineecricket1 stronger not stranger LOL new key board
I,ll have to watch this again. You were on about cutting a coil off which equals weaker!
olaf jensen Yep I made the spring weaker because I wanted to reduce the power and make it have a nice curve so it shot better and more accurate;
Do a full strip down fella. Not one showing in Google. I,m after replacing all seals and need advice
Why not adjust the hammer spring as opposed to have bushings made -most people don’t have a lathe!
great vid mate, sorry to be an arse, but dont you mean "thanks for watching"?not waching?
You people are asleep, 😂
Thanks!
