Also Ben is a very well trained fighter. He was the only earthly hero that was able to box with The Elder of the Universe The Champion. Ben knows how to fight and a guy who knows how to fight does have a chance of beating a guy who’s much bigger and much stronger.
A guy who still isn’t scared to fight you and knows he may lose and die....that guy is definitely dangerous

I prefer Hulk over the thing any day of the week, but I'll happily give this win over to Ben Grimm. He totally deserves it and his happiness with Alicia, what a nice ending to the book too.

If you want to check out one of the best Hulk vs Thing battles ever (I call it the best) read Fantastic Four #112 released between ‘70-‘72. A few issues before Reed Richards was able through an experiment to give Ben the ability to change into Ben Grim at will, but it affected Ben psychologically, making him aggressive and irrational. As the Thing is on his way to the Baxter Building to confront Reed Richards, Bruce Banner, called by Reed to help him with a cure, sees Ben battling police in the park and the excitement causes him to change into the Hulk. That’s where the battle starts from.

@awesometacular, yeah he can once a year. Thing’s control over his power has always been a psychological issue. Just like Johnny can flame on and off mentality and Sue can form shields that are as strong as her will power is, so is Thing’s ability. Only thing is Ben started out with a horrible perception of himself once they got transformed by the cosmic rays. It’s affected his self image perception ever since. Additionally,, Ben is so terrified of his monstrous nature that he restricts his strength, afraid that if he killed someone he’d truly be perceived as a monster in fact and not just appearance.

The once a year transformation is thanks to a concoction cooked up by Franklin, Valeria and the rest of the kids in the Future Foundation. The things Thor 2012 mentioned about his psychological issues are also correct. Ben can be a very heartbreaking character sometimes.
For the few days he changes back is actually the only time he ages. As the Thing, he does not age as he is all rock. Even his internals are rock just more malleable.

Rocky movies are all about the women in my opinion. Rocky always seem to be feeling booboo and giving up before that amazing wife of him shows up and gives a nudge. So there ya go girls, be proud in marriage, be proud how important you are to us.
Half way through this video it hit me I realized this comic is the plot of every boxing movie. The protagonist is having the time of his life when an enemy boxer comes through to fight him and prove who is stronger. Then when the boxer is getting clobbered (pun intended) his wife gives him the strength and second wind to fight on. Still a great story! It just became hilarious to me when I started looking at the comic through that lens.

@Jesus Esquitel, yes Hulk wins every time because he’s grown that much stronger than Ben and everyone else for that matter. But anyone who’s been in a real fight knows that a skilled fighter can conceivably take down a much stronger and bigger fighter if you land the right shot. Which in comparison if Hulk were skilled as fighter as Ben he would have killed Ben with his first punch.

Shakeer Water not a skilled fighter? You are aware thing is a experienced boxer right? Before he became the thing, he constantly had to fight people in boxing matches while he was in the air force just so he could make some extra cash, and that’s not even counting the hundreds of street fights he’s gotten into while he was growing up.

These two guys are my all-time favorite comic characters. I must say, that everytime the Hulk beat Ben Grimm, Ben deserved this win!
Just cause your stronger doesn't mean you always win. Everyone has a punchers chance. It's good to finally see Thing get one over Hulk. He is strong enough to knock Hulk out. But not much of a rilvary of Hulk wins them all or majority.

Funny you say that! Strength wise your are correct. However, in actual fighting skills and technique, Thing has the edge. Also depends on which incarnation of the Hulk we are talking about and which incarnation of the thing as well. In the late 80s early 90s oh, there was a form of the thing that easily pounded on the Hulk back when he was mr. Fix it. Doctor Doom actually had to come and save the Hulk. Even with that being said the Hulk still found a way to defeat him after he got rested up. And even though Doctor Doom helped I still give that win to the Hulk even though the thing probably would have really hurt him if not for the interference of Doctor Doom. And in this instance, even though Hulk was being controlled by Puppet Master physically he's still stronger than the thing. But the thing reaches deep down and got the win regardless! Either way a win is a win and a loss is a loss.

The thing did admit that the hulk is way stronger, but the thing has also admitted that he holds back from going full out every time he fights the hulk because he considers banner a friend.

This was a great story. For something so simple I have rarely every felt so much emotion around a few comic panels. Outstanding!
Ben Grimm is an awesome character. Always has been. Always struggling with his appearance and his inner beast, while not realizing what a true hero he is. Always fighting guys bigger and stronger than himself, never giving up or running from a fight. Like Alicia said: No one has more heart than Ben.
Imagine if this fight was animated. You Say Run should play over it.

Why was thanos much stronger than vision but not captain marvel vision had a stone. marvel absorbed energy from the teseract which was used to contain a stone can't remember which one
@@iiiDandudeiii I think that could've been because Marvel had the power of a stone all throughout her body. And it was the space stone, so it was most likely more powerful than the mind. But Vision only had it in his head. He was able to become intangible and other cool things. I think a blast from Vision with the mindstone could've been equal to Captain Marvel's energy blasts.

My man Ben Grimm finally gets one in the victory column. I know the Hulk is the Hulk, but my man Mr Grimm absolutely deserves the love he's getting in this story. He is my number one favorite character of all time, and I dig the idea of our beer drinking cigar-chomping poker-playing fight picking superhero that finally getting his due.

@@azorat1976 oh maybe. This Immortal Hulk is mentally unstable, whether he is being "controlled" or not. And I use the term controlled very loosely here because the Hulk was going along with the Puppet Master's control of him if you read the comic. Even so, the Hulk was STILL physically stronger than The Thing, and still got KTFO! And even then, the thing still looked worse for wear I think at the end of the fight compared to the Hulk. But hey, none of those things change the fact that the Hulk still took an L!

It's been said in past issue the thing holds back on most of his fights with hulk. I think if the thing went full out, the fights would be even better.

Holy shit. They finally gave The Thing a win (Well they gave him one back in like the 80s after he got that weird spikey form). After World War Hulk I was pretty sure the decision was that the Hulk was basically a cosmic being that beats everyone, always. Seems someone finally pulled their head out of their ass at Marvel.

There was a comic issue where the Hulk (not the mindless savage version, but one who could hold a conversation) went to Mount Olympus and ended up fighting Zeus, who beat the living crap out of Hulk, rather easily, then had him chained to a rock so that huge vultures could constantly rip out his guts.....😔

Bruce Banner is one of the top smartest people in the Marvel universe when he is human, but he is one of if not the strongest in the Marvel verse when he is the Hulk. Just one of the reason why Bruce/Hulk is and will always be one of my favorites... brains and brawns

I’d argue Superior Spider-Man was good and Superior Doc Ock was really good, but neither were great, and his Spider-Man run overall just felt anticlimactic more often than not. The entire Spiderverse concept was just lackluster under him, and the movie proved that a better writer could have taken it so much further. Hell, his OC Silk was only ever good when she wasn’t written by him. And don’t even talk about his run on Iron Man. That was just plain awful.

The thing is these mind control storylines shouldn't count when it's like Superman vs Wonder Woman or this one. The reason is technically Hulk wasn't the Hulk during this fight. Also, the Puppet master's own rage shouldn't be able to enrage the Hulk to get him stronger. It's like when Loki took control over the Hulk but Loki's rage doesn't fuel Hulk when fighting his brother. The way I see it is Ben didn't beat the Hulk. He beat the Puppetmaster.

No, his rock body is as badly damaged as it is, so reducing his body to human would have an equivalent to that of a fucked up person in general.
Like rock body has a broken arm and a fractured face, human body will have a broken arm and fractured face.

Z: I believe it all depends on how the mind control works. Like for instance some people can resist Puple Man if they don't see or hear him, or if their will is strong enough in rare cases. I suppose different mind control tactics affect different characters.

The Thing has always been one of my most favorite characters. The Silver Surfer, the Thing, Thor, the Black Panther, and classic Jean Grey are my favorites. Nice issue.

The thing winning is not to crazy. He has beaten the hulk a few times in their many fights.
Whenever he's defeated Hulk it's usually due to either his team mates assiting him or some form of plot context.. Ben has never defeated a none mind controlled Hulk in a straight up fist without some form of plot context be it Ben being amped or something else.. If both were at peak conditions Hulk wins everytime.

I don’t think being “in charge” has anything to do with winning. Superman is in charge and leads the JLA but he’s been beaten by his own fellow teammates. So being “in charge” is an irrelevant factor

The Hulk didn't resist being mind controlled because he loves fighting the Thing anyway. He was not a weakened version of himself because it was said that he had the Puppet master's rage plus his own. The reason Hulk got knocked out is that he ran face first into the Thing's strongest punch, adding the force of his own charge to the impact and breaking the Thing's arm. Hulk is stronger, but the Thing is no lightweight. Hulk has unlimited strength but the Thing has unlimited heart.
