@girren Hey, I appreciate your advice and saw other comments about the mirror issue as well. I removed the mirror last night. Today, my parakeet started making sharp calling chirps and seemed very agitated. He did this several times and so I put the mirror back in and he calmed down. 🤷🏻♀️ I do agree that there’s a social issue at play here but we’re not sure about getting another bird.
@@amandagrayson389 well the mirror shouldn’t be the only thing in your cage. And your bird was already exposed to it so he’s gonna be agitated for a bit. You putting it back will only make it worse. You can’t remove it for a day and expect implement. Weeks is how it should be.

You just shattered my heart just by saying the word coco cuz I have a dog named coco and he threw up blood like a month and he’s still in the vet I’m worried about him and I hope he doesn’t die
Lots of time and patience! It usually takes me 8 to 10 months with each bird. I also like to put them in a smaller cage and place my hand in it for like half an hour a day, and reward the bird with millet. The idea is to get them accustomed to your hand being around without touching them. And they love being talked to. Spend time talking to your bird every day. Sing and whistle to them. And remember that physical contact isn't necessary for them to start to love you. Your time and presence is. I like to pick a bird each day to spend extra time with me. The ones that are too anxious to be out of their cages get to be in the small cage with toys and treats. And I keep them where I am at in the house. And the ones that are more tame get to hang out with me without the cage. I found a small wing trim is actually beneficial. Just the first 5 flight feathers, not all of them. And just a modest trim. And only after they are fairly comfortable with your hands. That way they can still fly in their flight cage. But so they don't end up on the ceiling fan. I have high ceilings. And I prefer them to stay within areas that I can get to them if needed. I think it's safer for them. I also make sure my other pets are not able to get to the birds when I take them out of the cages. Budgies seem to really like foraging trays. And there are a lot of toys for birds for out of the cage time. They love new and novel things. So if you bring them fun toys regularly and treats in reasonable amounts, it will bring them joy. But also talk to them when they play. Give them your attention. At the end of the day, give them the things they need and want to be happy and healthy. And make time to interact with them daily, with only occasional exceptions.
I used to babysit cockatiels for my friends and they perch over either the food dish or the water dish. I would hope that the toy will help the bird not poop 💩 in his food. She'd probably have to clean the water dish for the bird every morning.
