  • In this video I go through the steps involved in tuning up your Stihl Backpack blower. I am working on a BR600, but this should apply to several in this line, the BR500, BR550, BR600, BR700, etc.

HI: thanks for the Really Good tune up & valve adjustment video. I have a new to me BR500 that does not seem to rev high at all. It starts reliably, and makes ok/fair power, but nothing like my old echo. On the plus side, it is so much quieter and more comfortable. I adjusted the throttle trigger, cleaned the exhaust screen, checked and cleaned the intake air filter and had a look at the spark plug , which looked good. next I guess is a valve adjustment......Thanks and Any suggestions much appreciated.

HI, I'd have to have it in front of me since I can't remember. Does that one have a "H" and "L" fuel/ air adjustment? You might try playing with that to see if you can get it to rev any better. I think the Stihl takes a 4mm hex adjustment tool. A 4 mm socket probably won't fit through the hole to get to the adjustment needle...

Hi I have the br500, I find mine the same as yours I know the br500 is less powerful the the br600 and runs quieter than the 600 but mine seems not to rev up maybe that just how they are

@@enra72 It seems like it should rev pretty good. I've not had the opportunity to work on a 500 so I can't say for sure. IF you've checked the muffler screen did you try to adjust the carburetor?

Just my opinion but i would not trust a cork gasket

I understand why you would say that. The way the valve cover is made, it cups around the whole thing to keep it from expanding out to far.. But I've used cork gaskets in the past on automotive stuff and they aren't worth much!
