Everyone of those guys looks like someones dad. These days most footballers look like someones kid...
Why do u think that it sir?
@@southlondon86 the change of society. style of hair and clothing is less contemporary and the manner in which people present themselves is associated with older men by todays standards. Also the fitness standard of the day was less refined and a stockier builds were prevelant in the late 60s early 70s. Basically they look like peoples dad because everything you associate with current dads is from their childhood during these periods. Thats my take anyway
@@DiamondHackerz Good answer, sir.
@@southlondon86 thanks sir! :)
something magical about this clip THANK YOU
Seeing Shanks got me .
A very young Phil Thompson at 1:11. Amazing to see their training ground is just some muddy football pitch in the middle of an estate.
It's Melwood, in the West Derby area of Liverpool
It's Melwood I lived about 200 yards away and my school was next door to it
@@katethomas5712 yes Melwood I walked past it every day to get to school
Used to go to watch them training in the late 60s when they let you in. Better days in so many ways
@@Coney572 Weren't they based there until about a year ago?
Nice footage . Football seemed to be more close to the people .
Very true
Looking at those high rise flats yeah you can tell it was a people's sport hence why it's a sport loved literally billions
Agree ; as I say on another post , we used to be allowed in to watch. I remember Barry Davies in his ITV days , pre BBC interviewing Bill Shankly and we tried to get on camera but kept being ushered away. Even in the 80s, some of the players just felt like one of us on the pitch. That’s rare now.
@@christiandawit612 those were Winterburn Heights. A dump but brings back foggy memories-My family lived there from the early 70s to 1989. I was born there and was 3 when I left.
I swear I saw James Milner over there
(Just kidding, lads, please don't take it seriously, Milner is a truly amazing player)
I know and he's signing for us soon.
no cones, bibs, headphones, instagram accounts, just league titles and European Cups
or Tats , stupid haircuts, 2 pairs of shorts, gloves, hats, scarfs , light weight boots or plastic ball, girlfriend beating or high profile "all about the money" court cases.
I'd say this was before they won their first European trophy in 1973 , UEFA Cup
great video, Phil Thompson looks very young and Tommy Smith at his fearsome best!
Good to see Tommy Smith when he had his original knees and hip.
old day british football was great!
Most things were better back in the day
RIP uncle joe doesn’t get spoken bout enough if you ask me a great coach.
No doubt "underrated" Millennials speak. Just the Boot Room mob, they all got lauded in the 70s but only Shanks & especially Paisley filled the Trophy Room up & after Paisley they could have still won trophies without a manager they were so good a team.
Shame there's no sound. I'd love to hear what Smith had to say to a graduate whom he probably despised.
Melwood ! I see my old home behind -Winterburn Heights. A real dump of a place in the end but I remember it vaguely with some nice memories. Was only little when I left the place then they got knocked down. Never liked high rise flats… something creepy about them.
Shock horror mud! They would faint now today's pampered butterflies, "it's not in my contract is it!" Transfer request.
This is fantastic footage. Am guessing it is 1972/3 as I thought I see Larry Lloyd there.
Excellent video 👍👍👏👏
Ps: Lloyd left after our Uefa cup win in 73 (Cvntry Cty)
Some real Liverpool greats there 👌YNWA
This is amazing
Is that Joe Fagan?
Yes
the box!
Amazing clip.
Shouldn't the title be: Tommy Smith training?
Old school English/British players on an average wage. Not like today with lots of foreign players just overpaid playboys!
I wonder how these players would have performed back then but with today's training techniques and diets. Mind you, most players still drink today. Jamie Vardy drinks vodka laced with skittles before a match.
1972 at a guess.
I am reliably informed (by one of the players featured) that this is 73/74.
Larry Lloyd left at end of this season. (allegedly in a huff because Phil Thompson played beside Emlyn Hughes in the FA Cup final that season).
0:53 This man looks like Danny Trejo!
This is around 77-79. Tommy is coming to the end here.
Definitely NOT ''around 77-79'' as Shankly is there & he retired in July 1974 & so for me & based on who else is in the footage, it's late 1973, very early 1974....
Phil thompsons nose was smaller then
1972 me thinks
You could be right. Keegan joined in 1971 and he is very young here. As is Phil Thompson who made his first team debut in 1972 aged 18. Add in Larry Lloyd who left in 1974; and 1972 or 1973 are likely candidates.
@@dannyvine3605 If it was 1974 wouldn't Ray Kennedy be there somewhere?
@@maximillianramirez1189 Read my post! I said "1972 or 1973"! I mentioned 1974 because Larry Lloyd is there and he left that year.
Yeah. He left because he didn't play the first few games of the season. Paisley didn't want to break up the partnership of Hughes and Thompson. Could be 1973👍
@@maximillianramirez1189 The other player of note is Peter Cormack. He joined LFC in the summer of 1972. So taken all together it narrows the year down.
Didnt know Bill the Butcher played for Liverpool
London scouse YNWA FAMILIU
These players couldn't hold a candle in terms of skill and fitness to today's footballers. Smith looks knackered after a light jog!
Ian Callaghan was as fit as a butchers dog ...you cretin !!!
Tommy looks like a friggin tank though...
Equally today's players can't ride the rough tackles that these blokes could, nor can they perform in atrocious weather n pitch conditions like these blokes could.
As much as I like 70s football I have to agree with you ,this is a joke
as far as training is concerned but this is over 45 years ago.
@@chrisfallon9678 grow up.
