Awesome! William Orbit must really, really hate this album for it never to be released on CD or digitally.
Can't get this on any of the services. Absolute 80's anthem. Loved it then, love it now. Never knew it was actually William Orbit! Thanks for uploading!
ahead of its time album. electronica rap on Tattered Dress. Just awesome. !!!!.
light years ahead.powerful
WOW! Years ago I was searching … now the whole album… my emotions are flowing… had this on tape in those years, loved it all over and over… yes they where pioneers… I still want it on cd to listen to it while driving!!! All suggestions are wellcome!
Torch Song - Exhibit A is apparently on CD which contains 4 of the songs from Wish Thing as well as songs from other albums. Apart from that the only other way would be to copy it from vinyl and burn a CD, I have the Album but I don't have the facility to burn the CD for you otherwise I would do it, no problem...well they say it's the thought that counts lol....hope you find a way as it is a great album!. www.discogs.com/Torch-Song-Exhibit-A/release/1530200
You are welcome!....heard of John Jellybean Benitez but unfortunately don't have any of his material so can't help on that one, sorry...I wish the sun was out here...it's pouring down at the mo!.
Believe it or not pretty sure William Orbit is still out there - I came across more of his work on a radio app on my phone - just as good. Check out his Strange cargo albums and anything after that
Made it to MP3 form from my own vinyl since eons. I confirm, just a perfect thing for driving. One of my best albums ever.
merci merci merci Thank U Thank U Thank U....Got this vinyl eons ago...& never was able to find it again... not the slightest wrinkles... as Prophetic as it would ever be...don't U think...
Me2 thanks 4 posting this I listen often
I knew I heard all these songs somewhere before, just found the vinyl album in the cupboard. Life is even more............
Thank you so much for posting this...had this on vinyl back in the day. Just spent the last 2 hours splitting my brain what the album title was. I have been singing Another Place to myself for days. I love William Orbit now. I had no connection in my memory to him on this album. In the last week I have recalled Thomas Leer and now Torch Song from my overcrowded dying brain !!!! You have made my weekend.
I have been looking for this album for 20 years!!!! Thank you so much for posting.
Just been looking through my 12" singles, Came across Prepare To Energise and Don't Look Now, then found this on You Tube. Life just got a little better.
Fabulous Thank you from Manhattan.
Had this years back.....Never on CD from what understand ....My copy was found on ebay on a German Import. Her voice is sooo dreamy....UH ho....Yes honey coming right to bed! bye folks! LOL
I love her voice ...so ultra feminine. Had to get the LP from Amazon love it still.
This is brilliant. Haven't managed to track this down for ages. Ode to Billy Joe: worth its weight in vinyl.
Something else I am thankfull to Joh Peel for. In my late teens bedroom, headphones on FMRAD1 - Peely played 3 tracks off this album. I taped all the Peel shows to listen again the next day - but this day saw me on a bus into town, to Town Records no less in Southport. Andy Caroll and Wendy worked there then. Anyways, I bagged this LP much to Andy's dismay! Of course it had to be William didn't it. Supreme times those...Set the Controls to The Heart of the Bass!!!
Such a cool, sexy and unique New Wave album. Played this so many times in my high school days. My copy was a blackish purple colored vinyl I seem to recall.
I have this record album as well as 12" remix of the single!
This is one of my favourite albums. It was only available on vinyl for a long time. Really nice to find it here. ;)
A million thanks
I think in 85 I'd special ordered the s/t from BACHELOR PARTY. Just for the one song, "prepare to energize" . It was considered "incidental music" and therefore not included in the soundtrack. It took me nearly 10 years to finally find the FONG TEST. This was the song in the movie that turned me to Orbit/Torch. A version less than this would not suit me. I had to find THE version I wanted. And eventually found it!
The first 20 seconds of "Prepare to Energize" are straight out of a Skrillex act. Amazing stuff!
MERCI MERCI MERCI Vasilouxxx
To this day her voice her vox makes me shiver. The tunes on this LP are timeless and there is a mood to this project like a grey sky but yet with a warm breeze. Isn't it funny how the 80's created some of the worst and the best music ever recorded? I thought that the art was long lost until I came across Bird & the Bee, Gotye and Kimbra...just to name a few. Peace All :-)
Mystically gorgeous
Classic Mid 80s album
Have been looking for this album for years after hearing "Dont look now", this will be a treat. Thanks for uploading!
Cool. I love cool music. Alot from my 80s, which was no dougt the best in underground music.after 91. I supposed things changed.
I play my vinyl copy sparingly so as to not wear it out before I die. it's great!
The non UK version replaced Don't Look Now and Tattered Dress with the UK 12" remixed versions instead. That is why I desperately wanted to upload this because the UK album versions are unique. The 12" versions are also on CZcams, peace and have a great 2013
You're welcome. Another Place and some other tracks were mastered on cassette and sound the same on all copies. Only recently found out that the "wear" is from the tape, not the vinyl! No wonder that some tracks are less "worn" than others that gave me a remastering headache lol
Perfect !!!
Outstanding!
This UK version contains two tracks that differ from the US release: Don't Look Now and Tattered Dress. Don't Look Now has a longer intro with different edits while Tattered Dress is actually a completely different recording. It has less production and sounds much closer to the record company demo version. There's even an additional bit of vocal by Laurie on this one. Very cool!
Not into these big superstar DJ's, but love the early Torch and Bassomatic stuff. Didn't even realise the guy in the. 'In THe Realm of THe senses' vid was him.
Found!
I have a peculiar obsession with Orbit/Torch/Cargo/Bassomatic. I have this lp. Don't remember where or when I bought it. But this isn't the same. DON'T LOOK NOW is different and ends differently. I love this! Thank you for uloading it!
UK version that used CASSETTE rough mixes for tracks, no kidding! ;-)
So long waiting for this - thank you thank you thank you! Esp. featuring the non UK version.
Great album. I wish I could get it on itunes.

Thanks everyone xx
This is pretty different than the US version that I have nearly memorized. : )
The US version had the club mixes of Don't Look Now and Tattered Dress. This was the UK version with the original CASSETTE (!) masters....
i wish this would get remastered along with torch song's ecstasy, fucking i.r.s. records
A lot of these tracks are not on bad or worn vinyl after all... William Orbit used cassette DEMO's instead of re-recording the songs...... It's bad cassette's that are the problem
💯💯💯
don't look now is some kind of remix - not from the album; tattered dress is an extended mix too - including some lyrics i'd never heard before
Don't Look Now and Tattered Dress are the original UK album versions that were repleced by the USA 12" remix versions on the US and some other world regions of the album. Also, a lot of the album itself was taken from cassettes that William Orbit made and then used from cassette to album. That's why the quality keeps changing from track to track
A really cute chic spent the day at the lake where I live. We partied all day and she turned me on to this album. She left her numbered studio demo tape at my house. I wanted to give it back but she left for England to be with the drummer. I listened to it for years before it got lost. She thought going would be cool. Wonder what happened to her?
I have the LP but this seems to have different versions what country was this released from
Got answered- US Versions included UK 12" version of Don't look now and Tattered Dress. - which are different than this Full UK LP.
Cool tune.
dunno wich version of the album I've heard in France backin the days...but as grizzlelee1 said, "tattered dress" is different
I'm afraid the no re-issue of that GEM, have something somewhat related with Miles Copeland (Stewart Big Brother) & CEO of Illegal Records...apparently the masters are the propriety of that no more existing records company... Exactly what I really dunno...
I've been collecting Torch Song material for over 25 years and I've never seen Tattered Dress on a UK 12" release. It does appear on an IRS US 12" but it isn't the same version as on the UK LP. If you happen to have the single info (release #, etc.) I would love to have it.
I have this on vinyl. But what I have isn't what I'm hearing.
This is the UK version with cassette demo's being used ;-)
i like water clock secrets but overall i def prefer the 90s stuff
still quite interesting to hear what william did in the earlier days
I just found this LP for $1. couple bad scratches but no skips
Tattered Dress I've always liked. White Knight is kind to me, as well. Prepare To Energize ....... I have many versions of this. This song is the bomb (Fong Test) from Bachelor Party. This version isn't here...I have on 12". Prob gonna order Laurie Mayer's BLACK LINING lp in the nxt couple of days.
That was the 12" remix xx
There was no UK 12" version of "Tattered Dress"- only a US 12" release for "Tattered Dress" and the version on this album is not it.
This album is the UK version with cassette masters used, no kidding...
sweetDReamsforever, too...

I don't know about you, but, it's easier to jump around when you just have to 'tap' on a track's start time. So, I've made it easy for all 😉 Cheers.
Thank you!!
Do you by chance have Friction Groove's 'The Black Box'?
Hit 29:12 4 Mor $weetNez =D
Go away
The US versions were the UK 12" xx
The vocals dont match the energy of the synths
