i think you would enjoy succession as far as filmmaking, quality writing, smart comedy and horrible rich people's drama

Oh man. True Detective season 1 is legitimately some of the best TV ever made. Period.

Mindhunter is just absolutely phenomenal, really hoping we'll get a season 3 at somepoint, regardless of what Fincher said.

I really need Mindhunter to comeback, the show was incredible, it's a shame that they're not giving Fincher what he wants, excellence requires an investment.

Rust getting the detectives to give him beers during the interview is a super smart play. Now the interview can`t be used against him if anything goes to court because the detectives gave him alcohol during the interview.
Fun fact: the showrunners for this show approached Matthew McConaughey wanting him to play Woody Harrelson’s role but after he read the script, he asked to play Rust instead cuz he found his character more intriguing and out of his comfort zone
So woody was supposed to play Rust? That would have been so weird lol
I love how by insisting on drinking, (“you don’t get to interrupt that”) he invalidated anything he said during the “interview.” So many levels of brilliance.

Oh, man. One of the best single seasons of TV ever. Really good stuff in that show. Screenplay, cinematography, acting, direction. All of it, top tier.
Best season of television I've ever watched. I just connected with McConaughey's character so much at that point in my life.

Yes, if Season 1 didn’t exist, seasons 2 and 3 would have looked a bit better. But they really paled in comparison to season 1, which is a masterpiece.

Do yourself a favor -- when you finish s01, move to a completely different show. Give it a good 4-6 months, around the 2021 Holiday Season, before you even try to circle back around for s02.
It's an anthology series, so s02 is completely different from s01 (actors, setting, theme, etc -- still a "dark underbelly of law enforcement" tone), and you'll want to at least attempt to judge it by its own merits, as opposed to the constant comparison to s01 that plagued it when it first came out.
Even a B/C Tier show looks D Tier when it's in the shadow of an S Tier.
@@i_so_late Never got around to watching season 3. Season 2 had a good cast, but can't compare to McConaughey and Harrelson's performances in the first season.
Season 3 was more of a return to form and lovely in its own way, but season 2 is absolute garbage.
I love how Harrelson's character asks Rust "How's that?" when he digs deeper into Rust's philosophy.

I also love that thing where a town that seems perfectly nice on the surface has ugly secrets revealed. It's why I love shows like Twin Peaks and Broadchurch.

True detective season 1 is a masterpiece

Best season of any TV series ever, in my opinion. I didn’t get into it until the end of episode two/beginning of episode three. I was hooked then. I’ve watched the season dozens of times. Rust Cohle is by far my favorite character from any show or film.
Can’t wait to see you watch episode 4 with that six-minute tracking shot.

Season 1 has such good story structure, you almost forget its 2 storylines a decade apart. And probably the best dialog and slow info reveal in media.

If you haven't seen it, check out Chernobyl. The writing is gorgeous, the acting is flawless and heartbreaking, and the sound design and score set the mood in a phenomenally haunting way.

There is a short scene later in the show that takes place in a skating rink. When I was in the Navy I was stationed in New Orleans. I took a part time job at THAT skating rink.

This was such a surreal mindfuck of a series. So well done. It just made my skin craw the whole time. More movies and tv shows should strive to be this good. The ending doesn't need to be Hollywood happy. It should stick with you. You should still be thinking about it years later.... because it's that damn good.
Holy shizznit - Amelie earlier this week and now TRUE DETECTIVE?!? You are on fire, young man. These are some great choices. This is one of the finest seasons of television I have ever seen. (Have you seen "The Wire?" It's kind of dated, but it's a-mazing. It's a total "must.")
Rust Cohle is my favorite character ever portrayed. His ideology and philosophy in comparison with his profession and drive is fascinating.
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson played brothers in Ed TV, which came out close in time to The Truman Show and had a bit of plot similarity.

This series’ theme is a direct reference to the author Clark Adhton Smith’s villain, “The King in Yellow” also known as “The Yellow King.” The king is a character based in H.P. Lovecraft’s universe, also known as the Cthulhu Mythos. C.A. Smith’s work was prior to the name “Cthulhu Mythos” that name come from the Publisher August Derlith who created Arkham House Publishing after Lovecraft passed away.
Clark Ashton Smith is awesome, but it's Robert w. chambers who wrote the original King In Yellow.
Also, if you like this kind of stuff check out M.R. James who did several short stories but my favorite one being 'Oh, whistle, and I'll come to you, my lad."
Currently among my favorite Televison ever. True Detective, Peaky Blinders and Dark are probably my top 3.

The director of this whole first season, is the director of the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die. So hype yourself for that too.

This shows philosophy is based off of a book titled " the conspiracy against the human race" by Thomas Ligotti. Some of the philosophy comes straight from the book verbatim. Excellent, but dark as hell read.

couldn't agree more, a great opening is essential. In my opinion the shows with the best openings (besides True Detective) are Breaking Bad, Fargo, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, and Barry. There's a lot of shows with great openings but imo these ones capture the atmosphere in the most perfect way.
Hell yes, this is an amazing season of television. Can't wait to go through it again and see what you make of it.

Everyone shit all over season 2. I think TD season 1 was just so beloved, they weren't ready for some serious L.A. Noir. I love season 2 and 3. The entire franchise is worthwhile. I got to meet Sarah Gadon who is in season 3 and she plays the character that ties the whole series together as a "universe." Very cool I got to ask her about that.
