"We wanted to give people 2 totally different experiences with these 2 shows. Phanerozoic I was streamed live from a venue in the port of Bremen, with big lighting production, kind of the way people know us. For Phanerozoic II, we wanted to do something more cinematic visually, and at the same time more intimate. We wanted to capture the feeling of the 6 of us in a relatively small, confined space, facing each other, in a circle... without a stage or a crowd being any part of this equation. It was March and the room that we spent the whole day in was cold, but that was part of the vibe. We had to warm up our fingers constantly.” comments the band.

This may be the most important live representation of the album concept. No audience. Just band mates pushing the needle in. The depth of restraint and swelling power in each song demonstrates The Ocean owns their place in our narrative as people who get it.

I saw them live for the first time a few weeks ago (with Karnivool) and they blew me away, but to see this in a "controlled environment" where you can hear everything just confirms what an astonishing group of musicians these guys are.
God damn this was so good. I might actually like this performance better than the album itself. The intimate setting, the band so tight and locked in, every instrument shining through but set just right in the mix, just everything about this was incredible. The Ocean have always been among my favorite groups and this just re-cemented them at the top for me. Plus an album traveling through geologic time will just never not be my favorite thing ever.
And they have this album out too! It’s perfect!!

At first song it sounds like album version. The sound design on this video is absolutely incredible. Just wow. Beautyful light, very nice videoproduction and editing. One of my favourite bands ever. And once I've been on their show. It was great.
That crescendo in Pleistocene is absolutely unreal! The lights, the vocals, everything! A superb performance.

Saw the ocean with the black dahlia murder when aeolian came out with nico on vocals,me and my brother where blown away,bought the signed album.watching this band grow and mature has been an adventure I hope will live on and grow to the reputation they deserve.

Just discovered these guys yesterday. The music resonates with me deeply. Watched the Bremen show twice in a row, which btw was as equally amazing as this one. Such a great performance, light show, recording, musicianship and compositions.
Just Listen to "Eocene", I can't believe the crisp sound in this version! I loved this live session.

Loic's singing on Miocene/Pliocene is fantastic! I saw this show as it was streamed at RB Redux first and it blew me away. Amazing production. It also made me get into Phanerozoic, which had been difficult for me until then. I was stuck on Pelagial, which is still for me their best to date.
Coming back to it after more than a year, I am not blown away by the vocal performance on Pleistocene.
Amazing band for deep meditating, it evokes nostalgic memories and profound self awareness to me. Always appreciated.
These guys should be headlining a US tour right now. Top notch
