    I enjoyed this video…especially the bloopers at the end.🤣😂😊🥰🥳
    I’d been holding out, thinking the seed sower tool with the dial was just another unnecessary gadget, but you convinced me that it would be well worth it, so I’m going to buy one.

    I just found your channel. Love all of your videos. Your editing is great. Set design if fabulous. Garden is beautiful. I've been hunting CZcams for anything on flower farming. I'm going to be starting my flower farm this year, so I'm on the hunt for any tips and tricks. I would love it if you could let me know how big are your beds (width)? And how wide are your pathways? Also how you chose what plants are going where and why? I see you have the landscape fabric in the aisles but not always in your beds, why? So many questions.....sorry.....hungry for knowledge from experienced voices. I'm going to start with a 1/2 acre by my house. 14 different beds 31 dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, filler flowers, filler foliage. Year 1 I'm just going to study how the plants grow and succession planting strategies, and photographing for marketing purposes for the following year when I would like to start selling. Thank you for starting your channel. It really is beautiful and I love the way you interact with one another. Keep it up and in no time you will be at 100,000 subscribers.....then 1,000,000! Good luck to you both. : )

      Hi! Thank you for your kind words! :) How fun! Our beds range from 3’ to 4’. Paths are 3’. We have a variety of soils and sun/shade throughout our garden, so that informs some of what we decide to plant where. Some plants like yarrow do better in poor soil, so we give them the least prime real estate and they love it. Delphinium likes part shade, so we plant it in the borders. We don’t use any landscape fabric in our beds simply because we do no dig and mulch heavily as a weed barrier, so don’t need the landscape fabric, really. We also want our garden to be less utilitarian and more inspiring (for our own sake) hence the hodgepodge of beds, paths, and borders. It would probably be much less work to do long straight rows. 😉 That is a wonderful strategy to take this year to learn to grow and market your flowers! We wish you a lot of success, but you’ll probably have a few failures, and that’s ok, too. It’s all part of the steep learning curve.

      @@rootdesigncompany Thank you so much for all of information. I'm excited for this new challenge. I've always enjoyed gardening but have never thought about doing a specific cutting garden. Then I was on one of those CZcams holes you get sucked into, I came across a video on flower farming. Then another on the current flower farming industry. So I'm jumping head first into growing flowers for the local floral market. Don't know if I'll succeed or just wind up as a giant skid mark on the ground......but only one way to find out! I've been on this farm for only a year and have only been in the Pacific Northwest (zone 7b) for the last 3 years. (Born and raised in Southern California zone 9). Loving all the new varieties of plants I am able to grow, however this "actually having a winter" stuff is.......different.....and mildly inconvenient when it comes to gardening ; ). Although it really is beautiful. Looking forward to all the beautiful new blooms this year has in store. Hope your new season is filled with beautiful blooms and an extra long growing season. Can't wait for your new videos.

  • @karie3

    You mentioned Ohio.....are you from Ohio? Me too!
    Do you use just normal seed starting mix for soil blocking? I am starting soil blocking this season, and I am using a recipe that I am making the mix myself and it's quite a process. I have to sift the compost and peat moss.

    • @rootdesigncompany
      @rootdesigncompany  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, we are in SE Ohio! Happy to have made your acquaintance. ;) We use a regular seed starting mix for 3/4" soil blocks, and Better Gro of Ohio for anything bigger and all 1204 or 1206 cell packs.

    • @karie3
      @karie3 Před 3 lety

      @@rootdesigncompany Have you heard of Middlefield, Ohio? That's where I live.
      Regular seed starting mix....wow that's awesome! That would be way less work. I am going to use the recipe from Gardeners Workshop and I had to buy 4 different ingredients and sift the peat moss and compost. After I use up what I already bought, I will look for a different mix. What seed starting mix, brand do you use?

  • @lisawright2292

    Thank you for the video!! This has been my first year starting flowers from seed and I'm trying to assess what I can do better next year. Is there a reason you go from the little soil blocks to the trays instead of to the bigger soil blocks? Also, what grow light do you use?

    • @rootdesigncompany
      @rootdesigncompany  Před 4 lety

      We list our favorite plant starting tools, including our recommended grow lights, here:
      www.rootdesignfloral.com/tools-we-use/
      No reason, both do the same trick. Trays are (slightly) less work, though.

    Following you from Montréal in Québec, Canada. I have a question for you. How do you proceed with the ranunculus. Do you seed directly in the hoop soil or if you start up your seeds inside and then transplant in the hoop? And one way or the other, when do you start the work in the hoop? Thanks in advance!

    • @rootdesigncompany
      @rootdesigncompany  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there! We’ve never grown ranunculus from seed, only corms. We soak our ranunculus corms before presprouting in trays. The presprouting takes 1-2 weeks, then we transplant the corms out into an unseated low tunnel the first of February. We are in zone 5b 6a.
