      Only Eric Haydock and Carl Wayne have passed. Thank God they are one of the few bands from the 60s in which almost all of their members are still alive: Allan Clarke, Graham Nash, Tony Hicks, Don Rathbone, Bobby Elliott, Bernie Calvert, Terry Sylvester, Mikael Rickfors, Alan Coates, Denis Haines, Ray Stiles, Peter Howard, Steve Lauri, Ian Parker,...

    What a shame!!! The only thing missing was Allan Clarke, they are doing very well, they are an eternal legend. Still in the early 70s, I went from my Brazil to Manchester, England: Just to see this band play.

      Peter Howarth, their current singer, has now been with the Hollies for 20 years, and he honestly has a great voice. You have to be at one other their concerts, they really do give a brilliant show.

    Way back in 1967 our Y-Teen club in Saginaw, Michigan brought the Hollies to play at one our Saturday dances in the YMCA gym. Tony Hicks was so entertaining with his huge smile, his rocking on the stage with with his constant movement, his great guitar playing, and charming demeanor. I spent the entire show focusing on Tony Hicks and have thought about the show many times throughout the years.

      Tony was a really underrated guitar player from that era. My wife had a crush on him back then apparently, but I had a Farrah Fawcett poster, so it's fun to look back.

      I focus on him now when I watch these wonderful old videos. In the late sixties I didnt know a bass from a lead from a rhythm guitar- they just looked cool. I liked the music until it stopped seeming cool but now, in my late sixties I quite like their well-crafted and well-played songs. And can tell the guitars apart and even play a bit!

    Good to see they’re still at it and Tony Hicks is still nailing it, but I’m afraid even those classic songs can’t make up for the absence of Allan Clarke and Graham Nash. To me, the magic of those cutting, searing vocals was what set the Hollies apart from all other British bands, save for the Beatles of course.

    • @OriginalCaliKitty
      @OriginalCaliKitty Před 4 dny

      Nash left the band in 1968, so should the Hollies have just packed it in 56 years ago? His replacement, Terry Sylvester, actually had excellent high vocals and the harmonies remained at a high level. Clarke left because he was having problems with his voice, but lead singers have left bands before. I look at it as the mainstays - Tony and Bobby - keeping the legacy alive for 3 generations. Did I like the original band (which actually wasn't original, since Tony and Bobby were both early replacements) better? Sure, but I'm glad they still draw enthusiastic audiences and haven't been forgotten. According to YT comments I've read, some people are only now discovering Hollies songs!

    Vengo de ver el video de Terry Sylvester interpretando "Long Cool Woman" en 2023😂 cómo se atreve a criticar a la alineación actual de The Hollies. su versión de LCW es una parodia en cámara lenta😅 y no dudo que el guitarrista que lo acompaña sea más joven que Tony Hicks PERO toca el riff como todo un anciano😅. Me queda muy claro que sólo Allan y Tony pueden tocarlo con esa particular fluidez...

      It's a shame that Allan isn't in the band at the moment (their last two albums are very good), but we have to admit that Peter Howarth is a great singer and Tony and Bobby are still there... as are the vocal harmonies that made them famous.

      Over the years the Hollies have had 19 different members, depends which version you want? If you follow music, you must realise that 60 years after a band were formed the chances of it containing all "original" members is pretty small. The lead singer Peter Howarth has been with the band 20 years, Graham Nash was only there for 6 years. Elton John (as Reg Dwight) was on some of their recordings, is he classed as a "member" Its all about keeping the music alive, so don't get paranoid about original member. Don't forget even the Beatles didn't contain all "original" members, Ringo Starr joined later. Earlier this year I saw the Searchers in concert with Spencer James on lead vocals. He has a fabulous voice. I also saw Mike Pender in a show a while back, who you would regard as an original member of that band. His voice wasn't a patch on Spencers, so would I like to see the Searchers with Mike Pender singing lead vocals? No thanks!
