@@dionemoolman I think you underestimate how ridiculous a Dyson sphere is.
To build a swarm-type Dyson Sphere, you would have to take apart the whole of Mercury (don't even talk the bubble-type, that's probably thousands of times costlier). Let's not mention the engineering involved, the energy to take apart Mercury alone is around 100 billions times the US annual consumption. If there's a way to generate that much energy in the first place, a Dyson Sphere would be irrelevant.
A Dyson Sphere is not practical, and probably will never be. Sure, it's fiction, so make up some random shit and it'll check out, but don't expect anything scientific to come out of a fictional Dyson Sphere.

You are forced to work so you can eat food, else you'll die. The dream used to be that one day, machines could do the work while humans relax, but under the current system, instead of getting to relax while a robot does your job, all the benefit goes to the top, and you're just out of a job. Eventually this would become a serious problem, as more and more people find themselves unemployed with the benefits of automation going to a select few, but we can take comfort in knowing that before it gets that bad, the AI will turn us into lovely paperclips.

I guarantee you we're going to go the way of universal income. And yeah for a while there will be a group of people who just don't like having extra shit but eventually it will become like a hipster thing. Some do it some don't. No one will really care once the novelty of exploring ideas wears off like a machine, they will grind and grind idea exploring to the ground. Then and only then will we see them look the arts which will require a job of some kind. That's when shit will get weird. What will be a job? What will they produce that will be worth getting a job among all the saturation of inventions and content? You could argue that popularity breeds curiosity therefore creating a stable basis for this semi capitalistic utopia. Here's a riddle do you care about the intricacies of how a battery is built or aliens? ALIENSSSS!!!!!!

      @Eudaletism Před 5 lety +1

@@azure7687 Someone brought up to me another interesting possibility recently. If the cost of production of machines gets very low, with advances in things like 3D printing, and AI software remains easy to pirate, you end up with everyone becoming capitalists, producing our own personal factories, and machines simply taking the place of the working class. If you think of computers as those personal machines, for some people this has already transpired. Information is already post-scarcity.
I can guess at several possibilities, which depend on the rate of things happening:
      1. Things go slow enough for politics to adapt and we get as you said the UBI mixed with even more consumerism and abundance.
      2. Automation goes too fast for politics, but not fast enough for personal use, unemployment soars and we get war and revolt, followed by possible socialism or authoritarianism depending on who wins.
      3. Automation happens so fast and gets so cheap and easy to distribute that we enter post-scarcity, everyone becomes rich with machines taking the place of the poor. Everyone becomes a capitalist with their own nanofactory and nanobot slaves.
      4. Automation and AI happen so fast we enter technological singularity and things become very strange.
Of course I haven't studied economics or political systems that much so this is not much better than naive speculation.

The only way you can relax while a robot does your job is when robots become completely independent. You are assuming they would want to work for us when we are completely irrelevant. Assuming we never become irrelevant IE we make the robots and maintain them we will not be out of jobs. Anyway, if you are concerned about machines taking your jobs, too bad. It's been happening for ages. Cotton gin, automobile, electricity, all of these created and destroyed job markets. Get used to it. Get more than one skill if you are afraid of that one skill becoming obsolete. Diversify or disappear. There's your answer, you can stop whining and start living now.

    0:05 20 Terawatts????
That's way too much to be using on a car. Even if it can fly!!!!
For context, on average, it only takes 15 kilowatts (15,000 watts) for an electric car to drive for 100 kilometers
    20 Terawatts is 20*10^13 (200,000,000,000,000) Watts.
I know he later said he also used it to charge his phone, but if he has a Microverse hooked up to his car, and it's exporting 20 terawatts of electricity (per what? Second? Hour?) per day, even, that's still way too much wasted on nothing.
I don't know if that's Rick being wasteful on purpose (which isn't very farfetched, honestly) or if that was the writer just wanting to hype him up allot.

There zero reason Rick couldn’t automate a team of robots that travel to the infinity of resources rich and life devoid dimensions to collect, farm, and process every conceivable material he could ever wish for and then use the same dimensions to dump his trash where it can’t hurt anyone.
That pretty much encapsulates Rick as a person. He chooses to make thing harder on himself just so he can assert his superiority over everyone and then beat down anyone who criticizes him as being an idiot when more often then not he’s being called out for the problems he created and could of easily avoided

As sick as it might seem, I sort of side with Rick on this one. Because Rick is an alien he has no means of actually _compensating_ these people that would be of any real value to them - apart from sharing knowledge of advanced technology with them; which he _did_ by introducing them to Electricity and Technology to begin with.
In their society, they don't just labor to produce electricity for the fun of it; they actually are being paid by each other to do this work; they have a functioning economy and live their own lives. Heck, I see it more as Rick's share of the energy being his compensation for bringing them this technology in the first place.
As long as they remain blissfully unaware of how insignificant their universe is and their role in it, no harm, no foul.
