  • Richard Sherman interviews Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. The two future Hall of Famers open up about their years together in Seattle, including their Super Bowl win against Peyton Manning's Broncos and their heartbreaking loss in SBXLIX to the Patriots on the infamous Malcolm Butler interception. Richard asks Coach Carroll about his early years coaching with the 49ers and Patriots, and Pete shares a hilarious story about his first clash with Robert Kraft. Pete discusses his time at USC and how that storied run prepared him to return to the NFL with the Seahawks. The two reminisce over the beginnings of the Legion of Boom, its unceremonious end, and reveal how their relationship is today.

So it wasn’t just me 🥲. The whole interview was a setup for it! All through the interview, hearing Richard giggling, obviously nervous, I kept thinking “he really *really* loves - AND respects - his old coach!” And the way Coach smoothed everything out for him, kept making his old player look good… what a fantastic relationship they have. And then *BOOM* “I’m proud of you”… I gotta say, I am 61 years old, born a d bred lifelong Cincinnati Bengals fan, nothing at all invested in these guys, but I grew up with a “dad” who was never anything but a bully, tore me down to nothing, relentlessly, for no reason… I always get the impression that, for all his on field bluster, his Stanford 4.0 academic creds, his Hall of Fame career, I always get the impression that Richard doesn’t believe how amazing he is; he needs to be validated by someone who matters. In that regard I see myself in him. It’s obvious that Richard reveres Coach Carroll. Coach Carroll matters - as much as a father matters. Hearing him say “I’m proud of you” 🥲… that was powerful. To Richard -and- to me. I didn’t know it before… but I love both of these guys.

That 2013 roster was special. The fact that you still have retired players not just living in the Seattle area, or coming to games, they're showing up to training camps, they're chipping in at practice to bring the new guys along, they're giving back to the fans and the community in Seattle, and it proves to me that John and Pete didn't just base their picks on pure talent and athleticism, but also on character and conscience too. These are all men that are committed to the same vision, they are cut from the same cloth, never dwelling on slights but using criticism to fuel their path to improvement, and they are still drawn to one another at the Seahawks complexes and Lumen Field.

One thing I hear from a lot of Seahawks players not just LOB members, but even guys from the backups and practice squads, is when you leave Seattle in the Carroll era you never have that door shut if you don't shut it yourself. And that says a lot about their culture. And you can see that culture isn't just infused in the players and Carroll himself, but the coaches. Their new assistant coach hire, Bates a former player, he was raving about how infectious that sideline culture is from the top down. How everyone seems to be invested. And he's only been there a few weeks it seems and he can already see that difference in approach.

Am I the only person that cried at the end? This 60+ y/o mom and retired teacher, really respects and recognizes the love, friendship, and mentor/student relationship shown between Pete and Sherm in this interview. As a fan since 1978, Pete is my favorite coach and I have an affinity for his style and belief in positivity, acceptance, and accountability in growing young people/players into their full potential. It does speak volumes how so many of that Super Bowl winning, LOB team of athletes chose to make their homes in Seattle and are playing roles as mentors to new players. And as Pete states, that’s good from, not only the POV of current players growth on the team, but for young men to see what is possible on the other end of their short NFL playing career.
I can’t say enough about just how good this interview was. I think I got emotional because, as a 12, I’m as ‘all in’ as the players and it is emotional to be invested in these players/young men, Pete, and everyone involved in coaching and developing the team’s body and spirit. I really appreciate that Pete and Sherm had this interview because it was such an honest and ‘full circle’ conversation.

Hi Richard! I'm Susan/ Lady Hawk/12th Woman/ Seahawks fan for life! I've watched you grow up on my TV! I've been one of your greatest fans EVER. This is my FAVORITE interview EVER. My love for Pete Carol goes beyond measure. Thank you for bringing the GREATEST FOOTBALL COACH IN NFL HISTORY! Pete is the most positive, kind, loving human being. To be a player, having this coach.. this ..Legend coach you, teach you, mentor you, must have been amazing. He's "raised" so many incredible players I've lost count. I love you. I love this show off yours and I love..LOVE THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS💚💙💚💙💚💙 WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL! Love You Richard! You were the Best Cornerback ever. Bigger than that, you've evolved into the man I see here today and I'm very proud of you. Thanks for everything you do.

No team is perfect in sports, it's nice to see players and coaches open up and let things out, especially my Seahawks team! To hear the stories, the trials and tribulations of the individual players and coaches, and to hear about the resilience it took to face all the naysayers turned them into one of the best teams ever assembled in NFL history. Thank you Richard Sherman #25 for putting these podcasts together. I really enjoy the stories. I hope one day you can reassemble the LOB and just talk about the mentals that was required for you all to have created the best NFL defense. I especially want to hear from Earl and Kam!

Epic. Being where they've each been, what they've experienced together and where they are today says loads about Pete & Sherm. Two of my favorites. Thank you Sherm and Pete for this interview. I've been a Hawks fan since the 80's and there's been nothing like the Pete Carroll years. I think much of Seattle's hearts were broken after that 2nd Superbowl. I remember the day after. The entire city and surrounding regions were emotionally hungover. The city was quiet. I love seeing Hawks legends staying in Seattle, hanging at the VMAC and bringing up the young pups. A true family.

Beautiful connection between two brilliant and unique men. When you’ve been a Browns fan like myself for the last 40 years, you naturally find other coaches and players throughout the league to root for every year as your team slips into obscurity. Pete and Richard are two of those guys for me. I was gutted for them, their teammates/coaches and their fans when they lost the Super Bowl. Mainly because I knew it would fracture the very real, very strong relationships between player and coach. To see the healing and love between them makes the world feel a bit more whole today. Thanks for sharing, this warmed my heart thoroughly.

I'm not typically the kind of person to leave comments on videos. But this interview is one of the best is 11 out of 10. I really started watching the NFL in 2013. First game I payed attention to was Sunday Night game 49ers VS Seahawks......I fell in love with the LOB and the Seahawks that night. Going from a person that didn't watch NFL to after that game, listening to Daily Seahawks stuff, watching every game, and if I couldn't watch it I was listening on the radio. Being from Texas where Cowboys football is king....I love my Seahawks and I am a forever fan because of these guys in the video and that Team.
