  • Sawmill House, located on the site of an old sawmill in Australia, is a sustainable home that uses large reclaimed concrete blocks. Collaboratively designed by the architect and his brother, the house features gradual and customized construction. With an operable envelope, the house takes advantage of natural ventilation in the summer and maximizes solar gain in the winter. The use of 270 recycled blocks in the walls highlights material reuse. Designed for a family of three, the house combines a rustic look with recycled wood and brass sheeting in the kitchen cabinetry.

I have always admired this house and the architect creative utilization of materials which are often discarded and require huge amounts of energy to be initially created. The simplicity of design and creativity is evident from the walls floors, furniture, kitchen cabinets and etc. I admire a project in which the budgetary constraints create something beautiful. I know, majority of project have budgetary constraints but not as much as others. Kudos to the architect and his brother. Lovely design.

All homes should be built to accommodate the elderly and disabled. This will be better for everyone.
Large wide doorways and hallways make using a cane, walker or wheel chair much easier.
Bathrooms or wet rooms need to have flat floors and no shower hump or pan. A flat floor allows for easy access and drains need to provided.
Easy to use lever door and faucet handles are easier for the elderly to grip and open.
Main floors should include a master bedroom, restroom, shower, laundry and wide walk in closet with few steps to enter.
Homes should be designed with aging in place in mind.

New homes should come with solar panels, a rain water collection system and an electric vehicle charger in the garage.

Made from recycled trees........ putting it that way I could go into a Heritage listed old growth forest, cut down and process the trees and say I'm recycling ♻️.

You literally used the word "literally" twice in two sentences. Literally!
