- On October 20, 2016, Zippo sat down with Purple Heart recipient Mark Anthony Krofek to hear his lost and found Zippo lighter story. Through the power of social media, he was reunited with his lost lighter almost 50 years later. A canvas for recording the hopes and fears of a generation, Vietnam era Zippo lighters were often engraved powerful statements such as this one.

What a great story. Carrying a Zippo is about a lot than just having a fire starting device. It says a lot about a person. I'll be buried with my Zippo in my pocket. The hard part will be picking which one!! Love Zippo. I'll never carry another lighter as long as I live.

A Zippo is not just a lighter. it is a companion. It's with you through the good times and the bad times the sad times and the happy times. I've been carrying the same Zippo lighter for 50 years and it still works great.

To bad that i lost the one i bought during basic training back in 1986 at Ft Jackson. Lost it around 1997.

I’ve had fancy Dunhill lighters that I paid close to $400 for, but I prefer my zippo lighter. The stories that lighter could tell. From ridding alone to Daytona beach for bike week to the 25 th anniversary of Woodstock. I’ve done it all with my trusty zippo lighter...

I'm not even a smoker, and i always carry a trusty zippo. I've gotten many friends into zippo lighters as well, nothing i know is so iconic to carry with you. Currently I put my more precious zippos back into safe collection and carry the newer Ouija Board design armor zippo. Definitely would recommend.

Good opportunity to thank all Veterans past and present. I truly appreciate your service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸🙏 and thank you Zippo for posting this story. Small personal items can carry so much sentimental value. I have a pocket knife that belonged to my father that is one of my prized possessions. I have collected about a dozen Zippo lighters over the years from places I've visited. They remind me of the times and places and situations. I cherish them all but I think my favorite is a plain old street chrome version I bought at Wal-Mart lol. I carry it daily and recently put a Zippo yellow flame butane insert in it. Wonderful. Thanks Zippo for a great product that becomes a sentimental heirloom.

Someone stole my grandfather's World War II Captain bars out of my bedroom they didn't get both of them only one all the other metals bronze star Purple Heart an Irish Wolfhounds Insignia badges and everything else his Pilot's log signal mirror shaving mug and brush Nazi letter opener all of the things we're left just one Captain bar still I just want that piece back

My zippo has a story I found it on the side of the road. It looks kind of weird and one of my friends told me it was from 1933 I don’t know if it’s rare or not
