Mark, you could probably rig up some sort of netting or mesh to cover the hoop and keep things out of the prop. You could put it in place of the neon green decorations they put on at the factory.

That sucks. Been there with various issues but not this particular one. I wonder if landing would have been an option.
I had a prop throw a small chunk (wood prop). Vibration was intense when it happened. I was out of commission for a few precious weeks. At least you had spare parts. Fly safe and have fun.

What front mount reserve and container do you use?
Something tells me things could have got even worse.
Blessing in disguise maybe if you had to use that reserve .
What about a tether to prevent the throttle from getting to the prop?

I saw one in person prior to install at Salton, and want one! I really don't like my v-throttle.
@Mark and Alayna Hunneycutt Get a pop rivet and put it on the throttle cable before the cable stay. It will lock it into the throttle body so it can't slip out.
You can't see it on reassembly but are you talking about the little brass thing I'm removing at 10:40? It keeps the cable from falling out. I reassembled with that in there

We were doing a hoist reseat at 1000 feet at ETL so there was a lot of vibration. Think it's okay. Although last night on our training flight we red Xed the aircraft because it felt like a ghost was pushing sideways on the cyclic. About 15 pounds of force with the FLT PATH STAB master caution. They ended up replacing the roll trim servo last night. Had to jump aircraft on med duty
You’ve had a bad string of luck ever since you got that new motor.
Ugh, should solder those connections, simple crimps allow for issues.
Did your throttle swing under the cage? I guess, cause had it entered through the netting, it would have gotten stuck there. Maybe there's a way to attach the cable higher so it can't swing into the prop.
I think lower would have helped. I think it swung through the netting gap. I keep it short. The netting coverage isn't great on the macfly down there
@@MarkHuneycutt I think it went over the cage because the tip of the prop was damaged. Maybe it could go through the netting at a spot near the tip of the propeller, you are right.

Oh dear. Those brand-specific gaping and hungry holes in the webbing sure are pretty, though.
I figured it went over the cage since the tip of the prop was destroyed. They should make them such that it is impossible for the throttle to reach the propeller. Move the propeller back farther and shorten the cable.
@@DAS-Videos Watch again and see where it falls. It looks to be too short to have gone around the hoop to hit the prop.
@@f.n.schlub2269 I looks to me a very dangerous motor. Besides the huge openings, I see that the nylon string goes through eyelets so if one piece breaks it will unravel and get into the prop.
@@DAS-Videos First, a "motor" is electric. As engines go, this one is okay. I think you find elements of the rest to be substandard.
I wouldn't use it in it's stock configuration.
At least you walked away from it OK (in your pants 😉) could have ended far worse. Joking aside, have you seen the video where a guy recommends feeding the throttle cable over the top of your arm? If you drop it it shouldn't be able to get into the prop. Plus the netting protection on that motor is shite! I've added more netting where the big gaps are on mine 😉
Interesting idea. Wonder how that'd feel in flight. I used to add netting to the base of my Nitro 200 paramotor. It's not great on the macfly. Blackhawk 125 had the best coverage of my motors

You should never fly with a broken prop.
With the prop broken off it will make the propeller unbalanced and that will Destroy the bearings internally in your engine!

Netting design is useless. What the #$%& are all the gaping holes all about ?? Isn't netting supposed to prevent this issue ? Super dell is an ass, but is spot on concerning net design.
My blackhawk 125 did a better job covering netting down there too. Flat top and angel sky tap have good coverage down there. However you shouldn't be dropping your throttle
I always wonder why guys don't get flat tops. Maybe they don't like the bulkiness of them?
