Karen, you've done such a fantastic job decluttering the basement! Regarding the skates, group text your boys to ask who wants to claim the skates (include the sizes). Ask your girls the same question. If the skates aren't claimed, someone at Goodwill will be blessed to find them. :)
Yes! Every little bit helps! That’s my motto! Every box, bag or donation out of our house is a win/win! 🎉 It’s truly amazing how things accumulate over time! I think we don’t realize sometimes that the things we buy have to be stored somewhere and eventually it’s too much. 🌸 We’ve been purging and donating a bunch lately and it’s so therapeutic! You are so right about the more you declutter, the more you find to declutter! We have a pretty minimalist life already and I have been spring decluttering and organizing the past few weeks. When I was done I thought, “I wonder if I can push a little harder and fill 1 laundry basket of things to get rid of?” I figured it would be pretty tough and set my expectations low. Little did I know, I had 2-3 laundry baskets full of things to declutter or trash!!
I use a large notebook for my daily and weekly routines, plus a daily to do list but included in the notebook is a project list that I brain dump everything I want to deep clean or declutter. It allows me to choose one thing at a time to do after I finish my daily and weekly routines.
Crazy how much of a difference you made!
You can put the game boards and pieces in those bags big enough that are made for paperwork. Then store in a box. It takes up less space

I managed to declutter most of my house in 2022- finished 42 years of paperwork last year from my attic- but I still find things to go to donation- I think it’s a lifelong thing- but it feels good

I was feeling down and I wanted to just go to bed and sleep and when I walked through the kitchen I had just a few dishes so I thought 5 minuets and then I looked around and thought what else can I do for five minuets...now I am not feeling so tired...just doing something for five minuets helped me! Wow, not just your basement got declutterd - you got rid of so much weight as well. I´m so proud of you! WELL DONE! 🤗 I painted for the last 4 days. Kitchen, living/dining room. Most of the stuff is still not on it´s place. I use the opportunity to deep clean as well! Monday I´m back at school. So I need to hurry up! 😅
The big department stores over here are selling screws indivdually. Super handy if you need just a few in a size you never gonna use again. My dad bought 7 screws for 14 cents (€) the other day.
You could use the large laundry basket at the bottom of your stairs for recycling. Just put a large bag in it. It works great.

I think most of that thread is polyester which lasts a while. I do a test. I pull the thread with my hands and if it breaks easily I throw it away. Sewing boxes are expensive. I’m sure someone will like your donation. 😊

Karen! Yes! This video is awesome! I love the spontaneity. It was like doing a LIVE with you, ad lib along the way. Oh hey, have you ever done a LIVE? Is that something you would be up to do? If you had questions along the way, like “did anyone remember if I had a lid for this box?” Lol. You could ask and we could answer real time. I watch another CZcamsr who does go live, and we have been known to watch for up to three hours and it becomes a different type of fun community. Oh, and no editing. 😊
Hi Karen, That is just the best feeling when I can consolidate something into a smaller container! I use those containers that you have to send food home with my adult kids after the holiday meal!
I h it ad that same sewing caddy years ago too. I think I decluttered it when my kids bought me a pretty fabric covered truck that was a bit bigger. I inherited my grandmothers sewing cabinet when my mother passed since she had it an I refinished it. Lots of memories of grandma sewing clothes for us an our dolls plus a quilt for a wedding gift.

Hi Karen, thanks for your videos, fun to watch you declutter, clean and cook. 😊 I laughed out laugh when I saw your sewing box, I had the same one that my Mom gave me over 40 years ago. I thought I was the only one with that crazy sewing box. A few months ago I moved it forward to the thrift store.
You keep whittling away at it. I keep making rounds through rooms and finding more to offload. There wasn’t a lid on the Ball bin.)
This week - I’m doing Zone 3: Bathroom. Decluttering & cleaning - medicine cabinet, vanity (under-sink & 2 drawers) and linen closet. I did the med cab yesterday. Vanity today. Tomorrow is the linen closet.
I agree with you about little bits of time to get things done. I sometimes even make a list for the next day. Someone will absolutely love the 'vintage' sewing box! Good idea to donate it!!

I am going through all of our winter gear. If we haven't used it by now, we don't need it, but there is still enough cold weather left to donate it now. I also like your small organization projects, like the sewing basket!

Hi, Karen. I could declutter the tall white tower cabinet in the bathroom of the all the old beauty creams and lotions that were given to me as gifts, many that I never used. I can also get rid of even more makeup than I tossed from the last clear out. There are other bathroom items, too, that can be thrown away. I will do it very soon!
What's so funny is I see you as a minimalist. If you lived on your own, I imagine you'd have just what you need and nothing more. When you come from where you started, it's probably hard to see yourself that way though. It's similar to when people lose a lot of weight and have trouble seeing their true (new) size.

I did the same box/bag routine. Company coming - clear the counters, put in box and store. Also, never get back to those boxes!! Glad to say my counters stay pretty clean now so no paper clutter switch- a-rooney!!

I have a friend whose husband takes care of all the outside stuff. When he’s done mowing the lawn etc. he cleans everything. Sweeps the floor in the garage and mops it. She said his obsessed with a clean garage. I thought of it when you said you wanted to get to cleaning your basement. It always amazes me that when decluttering getting to a point that I think I’m close to being finished it. Not too long after it just seems there’s so much more to go.

Happy Birthday to your daughter Rachel for tomorrow. 🎉 Karen, this was a great little declutter, as you seemed to have a bit of a spring in your step today. 👟 Secretly I’ve been waiting for you to get rid of that sewing box 🪡 for a while, because I’d noted that it was taking up too much shelf space for the amount of stuff that was inside it. I thought perhaps you were only keeping it because your mum gave it to you and it was sentimental to you. Anyway, I’m so proud of you, that you’ve reached the point where many of your items are stored in clear tubs and clearly labelled. This is showing amazing progress, and I also think it’s brilliant how much clearer the floor is looking too; you can clearly see a lot of empty floor space now, which is just brilliant! It will be nice when the whole of the floor is empty of clutter and all items are stored on the shelves. Just a little observation though, if it were me, I wouldn’t put the outside chairs by the burner because they’ll get covered in that soot. Personally, I’d leave that area clear for furnace and oil burner maintenance purposes. Isn’t it funny how if we see an empty space (especially wall space) we all feel the need to put something in it. Btw, to answer your question, I don’t think you ever put a lid on the sports box 📤; because originally you couldn’t find one to fit it. However, I do remember you had an odd lid by your stairs recently which perhaps could be the one that fitted that particular box.
I am curious as to the actual purpose of basements. They just aren't a thing in Australia so I am intrigued. Some people convert them to additional living space while others use them as formal or random storage. I see they have heating units sometimes - we just have all that sort of thing outside, but perhaps it is snow related? Yet the small parts of Australia that get snow are on mountains, so there are no basements there! So what are they intended for? Curious as we have a house with no attic, no basements, no garage, and none of those enormous American closets!

there was no cover on box of balls, because lid would not fit if there was. & cardboard boxes not good, as we pointed out cant see whats in them and rodents and silverfish love to nest in them. ew. lol
