Recently "Libertango" performed by the Bond Quartet featured on the hit TV show "So You Think You Can Dance" SYTYCD making this Argentine Tango red-hot all over again.
Grace Jones's song I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango) is based on the same tune, as does Jazz Mandolin Project's song "Jungle Tango", Guy Marchand's song "Moi je suis tango" and Kati Kovács's song Hívlak.
In 2002, a re-recording of Libertango appeared on Australian/British classical crossover string quartet Bond second album "Shine".
Also Libertango was played by the famous guitarist Al Di Meola in his 2000 album The Grande Passion and by the world-renowned cellist, YoYo Ma, in his 1997 album, Soul of the Tango: The Music of Astor Piazzolla.
Libertango is a composition by tango composer Astor Piazzolla, published in 1974. The title is a portmanteau merging "Libertad" (Spanish for liberty) and "Tango", symbolizing Piazzolla's break from Classical Tango to Tango Nuevo.
Ástor Pantaleón Piazzolla (March 11, 1921 -- July 4, 1992) was an Argentine tango composer and bandoneón player. His oeuvre revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music. A virtuoso bandoneónist, he regularly performed his own compositions with different ensembles.
Piazzolla's nuevo tango was distinct from the traditional tango in its incorporation of elements of jazz, its use of extended harmonies and dissonance, its use of counterpoint, and its ventures into extended compositional forms.
By the 1970s Piazzolla was living in Rome, managed by the Italian agent Aldo Pagani, and exploring a leaner, more fluid musical style drawing on more jazz influence, and with simpler, more continuous forms. Pieces that exemplify this new direction include Libertango and most of the Suite Troileana, written in memory of the late Anibal Troilo.

Con Piazzola fue un ida y vuelta de malos tratos , yo lo ad miro mucho pero no debio olvidar sus comienzos , además el origen del tango no fue para escuchar fue para bailar y hoy día lo es en toda Europa pero hasta Libertango xq más allá es para escuchar q después de todo es lo que quería . Yo he bailado tango toda mi vida ,no como profesional sino xq lo amo pero con el estilo del 40 45 50 hasta el 60 q es con lo que se sigue bailando!!! 💓

@@jacqueslagarde2474 No ! no son incompatibles pero el si pensó q eran incompatibles , , Piazzola admiraba a Alfredo Gobbi el decía q todos tenían a lgo de Gobbi y el le hizo un tango y respetab a mucho a Troilo ,los bailarines y se un ejercicio de destreza pero eso lo bailan baarines no el bailarín q va a una milonga a bailar o aún club es decir lamayoria de la gente no baila Piazzola .!! esa es mi opinión !!!!!

Nidia Burgos Sabes que pasa Nidia ! que yo creo q en Australia no hace tanto tiempo que se escucha tango , justamente Maggie Ferguson directora de esta orquesta juvenil q se llama Tango Oz vino a Argentina a perfeccionarse en bandoneón en la escuela Emilio Balcarce donde los músico estudian todos los ritmos y ella volvió a Australia crear una escuela de tango , por eso son todos jóvenes los integrantes de esta orquesta 💓 Te mando saludos !!!!

De la técnica no se puede decir nada, son más que sobresalientes. Pero del sentimiento... es imposible que se pueda bailar de la misma manera que quienes hayan tropezado en los adoquines de San Telmo, Barracas y La Boca, de noche bajo la lluvia y al abrigo de un farol de esquina. Y no me hagan hablar del frente de la estación Hipólito Yrigoyen del tren Roca.

The tango dance has always been one of the most difficult dances to master to perfection, and if the couple here do not seem to show any emotion while they are dancing, it's safe then to assume that they are in deep concentration of the dance's intricate but exquisite technique. Nevertheless, their dancing is exquisite, too, considering that the Libertango is not easy to dance to.

Susana Manso Thank you for your encouragement, Susana. I have tried to learn the Argentine tango at three different institutions. One taught it like any other ballroom dance, starting with the eight-step basic, but I understand that the eight-step basic is not used in Argentina. The other institutions tried to teach a new way of walking and a new way to hold ones partner. I believe these are important. One also has to learn to improvise. I am inclined to agree with you that tango is a way of life, but at age 83 I am too old to change my way of life.

Soy argentina de alma pero por estas curvas de la vida vivi en Australia durante 10 años y ahora en mi patria me vengo a enterar este gusto por el tango en Australia. Sinceramente esto es de una orquesta juvenil sinfónica de Sydney y es muy placentero aunque con honestidad los australianos no se inclinan mucho por el tango y sí por el flamenco.

Piazolla's music is just calm and restraint, other than usual tango music.
El tango es más que música y danza , es Rio de la Plata , es arrabal , es sentimiento sin eso solo es buena música y nada más .
Es como que un argentino bailando samba ... un negro tiene más ritmo en las caderas al caminar que un argentino bailando ... eso se lleva adentro se mama , se respira ,,, podemos amar a Celia Cruz pero nuestro ázucar ,,, apenas llega a ser sacarina .

I saw them dancing in person in Sydney ,I think they are really good his name is Jairo he is from Colombia unfortunately I can't remember her name ,I do think they are precise and elegant great performance !!
I prefer this to the faster dancing video with the girl with the red dress. The feeling is more intimate while the other felt like a whirlwind, however this has its own drawbacks one the orchestra seemed more easily distracted.
There are different dancing styles about Tango dancing. You can dance it as it was originally danced, the "Canyengue" style, which is like you were in a knife fight on a cobblestone street (shoulder to shoulder, more intimate as you say). The ballroom dancing is like the video is, colorful and elegant.
