DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is a stunning reimagining of the beloved masterpiece and narrative beginning to The Erdrick Trilogy - the first three games of the mainline DRAGON QUEST series. Featuring vibrant HD-2D graphics, new and modernized features, and a refined narrative, players are invited to set out on an epic fantasy adventure to save the world from a dark evil.
Years ago, the great hero Ortega bid farewell to his wife and child as he set off on a quest to defeat the villainous Archfiend, Baramos. Ortega failed his quest, and Baramos still threatens the world. Xenogears is the only remake I would get legitimately excited for. Unfortunately even though Xenogears is one of the JRPG classics that needs it the most, I doubt it will ever happen due to licensing and ownership complications.
DQ is such a great series. They've never disappointed and it sounds like this will tide us over until the next entry. Thanks for the preview!!

Bro, have you even played an RPG from before year 2000? Dragon Quest is the pioneer of JRPGS and first person is a homage.
Even DQ11 has first person with the 2D mode for the old school gamers
If the idea of first person RPG is that much of a turn-off, you can keep your opinions to yourself and play literally any other game genre.

Or we can voice how much we dislike it and wish they hadn't kept it as a quality of life improvement ? Yeah I played old school rpgs, I'm almost 40 , but the first person pov for battles was always a huge turn off. jrpgs functionally play themselves after inputs so it's gotta have some visuals to keep me engaged. This is why I love Chrono Trigger.
Yeah DQ11 had a 2D mode. A mode I'd never personally touch. Why give up my visuals for squashed sprites and unengaging combat ?
Absolutely stunning remake. The elevation changes on the overworld map and in that watery dungeon shown in the video look so gorgeous.
I was expecting it to look very similar to Octopath, but it actually looks much better! wow!

I'm super picky, and have been with turn based jrpg's since I started playing them on the NES. I've always hated the first person battle system and skip on these types. I love the newer dragon quests and been playing them since DQ8, but I've always wondered why they never update the old school DQ's to a third peraon battle system, but update every other aspect of the game. I think I've seen 2 or 3 DQ3 re-releases and same thing everytime, first person battles.
The only exception is DQ7 on 3DS, they actually did change the battle system from first to third, from the ps1 original to the 3DS remake.
I know it's a major cost savings since all you have to animate is a slash and some flames here and there, so I get it from a buisness perspective. No hate~
Maybe one day square will just do both a 3rd and 1st person perspective on the next DQ3 re-release.
I just don't get my hopes up with older DQ titles. Until then, it's a hard pass for me and whoever else feels the same. I know we're not the majority on this topic.
I'm excited for everyone else though, looks great otherwise! HD 2D is definitely a nice touch.
I admit for the most part the majority of what can be discussed about the ff7 remake project is at a stand still but I miss the discussions that being said I will be picking up the DQ remake

I've never played Dragon Quest, but my older brother and I had fun in 2000 playing Dragon Warrior Monsters on GBA, working our hardest to figure out the monster breeding table before the internet had all the answers! While I respect your completely personal and subjective (yet still wrong) opinion, I must remind you that, in my own personal and subjective opinion, Final Fantasy VII is the greatest RPG. And I know I'm right because it's the popular opinion!
All kidding aside, it's cool to see someone give a crown to something that isn't one of the many Final Fantasy games or DQ VIII or XI. Most of the time, it seems like people's favorites are just the most popular choices (see above).
Final Note: I don't think FFVII is the best JRPG of all time. That title obviously belongs to FF XIII.

That's how Drsgon Quest played for the first 7 games. At least this version shows your characters between turns. In the originals, you never saw your characters on screen during combat.

I absolutely despise first person view for combat in RPGs. Literally ruined me wanting to get this game.

It is not optional, it is an homage to the originals. I was initially very turned off by it… but the more I played the more I liked it. You still see the character sprites in between turns, but the amount of detail they put into the animations for the enemies makes it worth it… sadly I couldn’t show that off with the provided preview footage but I urge you to give it a look as more footage is released!

Yeah I don't know why they didn't reconsider this choice. I know it's part of the identity of the original game, but this is a remake in 2024. I want to see the characters do a nice animation At least these simple things are what make me love JRPGs, and this is what made me love Dragon Quest 11. What a... Disappointment looks like I have to wait for DQ12 now

No it’s not it looks ugly and generic. Now the original HD2D trailer that looked like colorful and bright like legit Dragon Quest. Rip Toriyama. Square hasn’t changed a bit.
Can't wait to pirate it.
