    SUMMARY:
Before I give you the tip, let me share a cold, hard fact...
Fact-you will never be a great martial artist if you only practice alone. There is simply no substitute for a live training partner.
There are two goals in martial arts training-first, to control yourself, second, to control somebody else, specifically a bad guy who is out of control.
If you’re training solo, you can go a long way on that first goal. You can develop your speed, strength, flexibility, coordination, breathing a million different ways. But ultimately, my friend...
...martial arts is about relationships. It’s about relating to another human being, particularly someone who is trying to hurt you. Learning to control and manage a person like that means you will always need a partner.
Now, back to the question. How can you improve yourself as a martial arts by yourself? Here’s my tip-- do something WITH something!
    It could be a staff… a tube… a band… a ball… a heavy bag… a stick… a jump rope... a pair of dumbbells... a stuffed dummy… a chair, whatever!
Just remember the big idea--to control something outside of yourself when you practice. Find something to challenge your balance, your strength, your focus, and your coordination.
The list of ideas is endless. But it’s up to you to experiment with equipment and exercises that fit your style and meet your training goals.
So, if you’re training alone and want to make the most of your solo practice time, do something with something. Then when you hopefully get the chance to train with another human being, you’ll have some experience controlling the pressure caused by something outside of yourself!

4 years ago , I had the 'luxury' of training with partners! . Now i have to train all by myselves!. Have been solo training for 4 years now!. I always had special ideas on how to train in a particular day by utilizing what's around me!. But then using a chair to practice takedown defence/distance control was something I never thought of !😅
    Thanks for enlightening me!👍👍👍

Idk I think as far as just learning the basics and keeping good physical condition would go a long way. But you're right, you're not going become a black belt alone. But they do have things like double end bags that help you train timing and reflexes. With enough hardwork you could at least become a competent brawler.

Great tip! I personally use dumbbells and nunchaku in my practice and I can't even begin to tell just how much that improved my power, balance, punch recovery (meaning pulling back my arm quickly after I throw a punch), footwork and hipwork, as well as a guard to defend myself from hits with one arm (other arm holding a nunchaku which happens to be a great yet merciless teacher). Thank you sir!

I practice with juggling flower sticks, and it greatly helps with my coordination. It's using two sticks to control another stick, usually tossing it between the two or spinning it, using one or both sticks. I've come to learn after months of practicing these juggling sticks, that the discipline and focus needed to practice was enough to get anything done. So I stared involving work out routines with my practice sessions, and it greatly improved my confidence in solo training

Thank you sir! I wonder how many martial artists ever cared to consider the benefits of learning things like juggling, writing with the non dominant hand, archery, driving stick shift, things of that nature. Challenging ourselves is what this whole thing has always been about. Goes back to your one video there when you said ABC always be conditioning. Even in mundane tasks we can choose to try it with our non dominant hand or choose activities that make us synchronize our hands together. But how many martial artists would look at something like juggling and think oh what a phony! Or look at a ballerina and say that's not martial arts! In reality martial arts is a colorful way of war, so if it translates, I say train it!

    • @AndoMierzwa
      @AndoMierzwa  Před 3 lety +2

Hello I've been training MMA for almost a year now but I only train once a week because I'm still in senior high school. I rarely spar because I'm very busy studying. But I've sparred more than 6 times now I think and it really helped me to be more conscious about my techniques like doing in n out after attacking and changing angles so your opponent couldn't counter you and timing my opponents rhythm, so I could attack safely without getting countered. I have 1 question is there a way to reduce your flinching alone without a partner. I've already tried tying a key or rock in a rope then swinging it back and forth and try to do some head movements defense on it but I still flinch. I do shadowboxing and heavy bag punching. I think my striking techniques is decent now but my flinch response and defense is crappy. Please respond, thank you.

Good for you! Training to not flinch by yourself is not easy. Even though it sounds crazy, can you ask someone you live with to spend five minutes throwing punches at your face? They can wear gloves! Just start slow, don't hit back, and focus on staring down those punches and breathing. A little extra practice will go a long way!

Have you heard people talk about - Eonuke Stupendous Equalizer - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is an awesome one off guide for discovering how to self defence techniques to keep your family safe without the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got cool results with it.

LOL. I confess. I have used a chair: lying on my back, trying to move it around above me (and hopefully not letting it fall on my face!). I mastered the chair and moved on to tables and ladders and... I'm just kidding. I totally lifted Thor's hammer though... I didn't. I suck.

A very honest and detailed video. A Martial Artist can always look for ways to improve even when training alone although practicing with someone will really help us improve a lot.. I somehow remember the quote "two heads (or more) are better than one". Keep it up and more power!!!
