I have worked in two large corporates and as many others will have experienced, there are frightening parallels with my own recollections of some of the worst standard practices of them, with their closing ranks when threatened, bullying, isolating individuals they see as a potential threat. This case will be studied for decades by business students to exemplify the very worst of bad management practice. There are lessons to be learnt by many corporates in the exposures of bad practice laid bare here, putting the benefit of the company way ahead of the rightful benefit of individuals working within it.

As for protecting her cash, if it can't be got at, she will have to work her jail term and work after to pay back her debts and ditto the rest of them. Jail shouldn't be lazy fun.

People like Vennells normally befriend senior managers, kiss their arses and show they are good at their jobs so the managers then see and think they have a friend and thats where it goes wrong being friends with your subordinates leads to favouritism and loyalty so these people get promotions because of that whilst more competent employees who don't arse kiss their way up get overlooked. I've seen it many times poisonous and incompetent people befriend the managers for an easy time and utter cunts to their colleagues then they get promoted and you see their true colours

Remote access is entirely normal in this kind of system. You couldn't possibly manage a network of 11,500 branches without it. All banks and retailers have the same capability. The problem is that the remote access was done using the sub postmaster's account and there was no audit trail of the access.
It seems there wasn’t actually any missing money. The bugs just made it seem there was.

@thetruth9210 I’m a lawyer. The lawyers are doing very well. Especially Mr Beer, who is brilliant, but others too. It’s an inquiry, where the main goal is to get her evidence out, whether it’s lies or truth, to get her to answer questions & give her version.
It might look like they’re not pinning her down, but it’s just that they stop when she has given her position & held it after being confronted with the opposing facts/arguments. They don’t need to call her a liar every time.
Later the inquiry judge will assess her evidence & credibility against all the other evidence & documents.
She was the creator and so destroyed lots of evidence skip loads very scheming but to the average joe just full of shite

What I was getting at was that she was the CEO of the Post Office, which made her responsible whether she likes it or not. I saw elsewhere that she said that,even as CEO, she wasn’t responsible for everything that happened underneath her, or words to that effect. If that were true, it would merely support her position (which, as far as I can see, every senior member of the Post Office who has been questioned has adopted) that everything that went wrong was someone else’s fault, because she didn’t know or didn’t have the necessary expertise or hadn’t been told. It was her job to know, and also to ask some pointed questions rather than just fling out a few ineffectual ones and then go along with whatever she was told. Before retirement I worked for some very senior people in the police service, and none of them would have accepted some of the things she accepted without asking some very serious questions. I wasn’t seriously suggesting the KC’s should ask her what she thought the job of a CEO was, but I would have been very interested to hear just what she thinks it is !

Post Office was not ever privatised. It was in all intense and purposes a government department, funded entirely by the taxpayer.

I have a question, which may seem a bit dim, if so i apologise. The post office accounts could be accessed directly by Fujitsu, the money, has anyone ever checked to see if Fujitsu staff were filtering this money? This may go some way to explain where it all went.

Yes this is true. The PO can do themselves a favour by carrying out a full audit of fujitsu staff or can they?
I don’t think money actually went missing? It was the bugs/remote access that made it appear that money was missing.

You have a misunderstanding. We are not talking about bank accounts, we are talking about a system which says "you have £x in the safe".
Fujitsu can only change how much money the system thinks is in the safe. They cannot transfer money to other places as it is physical cash.
Funny how she can remember some things vividly from 10 or more years ago, but finds it difficult to remember or recall 🙄 important relevant things that are key to getting down to who is to blame for this outrageous, scandalous and damm right criminal actions by all involved.
They are all liars and all played their part in what happened toball those innocent people, then when they came to understand they were all wrong, they attempted to hid it all......,.all involved should be charged and end up in court, just as they did to all the innocent postmasters they did that to.
No one in authority in this case will go to prison.

At the end of the day, she will be genuinely sorry, but she will return to her very-pleasant-lifestyle and the ex PO postmasters will have to deal with the negative long term consequenses. It's how the system is set up - the wealthier you are, the better protected you are. It's the core of toryism.
If this is the standard of the rest of the clergy then god help us.

Anything to deflect from her criminal activity. Let's hope justice prevails. She never gave any consideration to the postmasters - they were all guilty.
How has collective amnesia and blatant denial of facts & documented evidence become the default defence of people in high office? Vennells, Johnson, Sunak, Hancock, etc are a national disgrace and have brought shame on this country. What a truly awful example to our children growing up, to show that financial gain can be procured not through honest hard labour, but by being a liar, corrupt and Incompetent.
