Yes indeed. She deserves credit for all of her hard work. And yes she has always been underrated. I wonder what happened to her though.
I know she got me through many hard times! One of the things I hated about her 1st label was the fact that they said she wasn't "black" enough for urban radio. What?!? If only the industry would stop trying to pigeonhole our talent. Unfortunately, her career took a hit when she sue (and won) both Janet Jackson and Beyonce, who are the darlings of their respective eras. She's been underrated since she came on the scene, but those of us who fell in love with her vocals and laid back soulfulness will always keep her alive. Without her contribution to music, some of our "neo-soul" artists wouldn't have been given a platform to be free to put out music in their unique styles!

I've been looking for this song longer than I'd like to admit but I couldn't get it out of my head. I only remembered fragments of the lyrics so looking it up that way didn't help either. I was so desperate that I just sang the melody to a webpage and here I am!

Great songstress..underrated or her music was not exposed enough.
90s music was just different. There was some gritty stuff playing but also a mix of songs like this that made people know that love is possible and real.
Sorry to be contradictory but this song and her music in general was NOT much accepted on black radio. Yes, she received awards but it got very little airplay. Radio stations started a deep descent that has not stopped to this very day (2023)

I always heard this song on Power 106 in Jamaica back in the 90s but never knew it was her and never knew it was from the early 90s. The pop acts of the era drowned out a lot of treasures. She definitely created a timeless treasure in this song and video.

Im shocked and amazed this was 1991. Feels so ahead of its time. There was a sweet spot in UK music where UK Soul/RnB was indistinguishable from the Americans. Her wonderful dry voice was like the feminine counterpart to Seal - also debuted with a killer album in 1991 that was way ahead of its time. Such a beautiful song and woman (swoon).
