I saw her preform this on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and it was stunning. she was dressed like a space traveler with rings circling her body, very late 50s vision of the far future. Stunning performance.
I would love to see the whole opera of Carmen with Nina Hagen playing the title role. With a little coaching and some work on the lyrics she would be sensational!

Karl Rucker is a great composer and bass player! saw Nina with Karl and Band in '84 or '85 im Düsseldorf, Germany. It was the "Angstlos/ Fearless" Tour. A really fantastic concert. And '79 i saw her in Essen, Germany. It was my first concert. And in the middle, Ferdie Karmelk jumped from the stage and fight with a guy who looked and talk to much to Nina. For my first concert i was a bit shocked, but interesting, wow!! Nina is great, for all time. Deshalb " Mach Dir mal nichts vor, hier auf diesen Planeten! Die Mauern im Gehirn, kannste nämlich selbst, wegbeten. Also . . . .
I was just binge watching Nina i.e. her incredible vocal range and came across Carmen. She has to be the most versatile singer I've seen. From punk to opera, show tunes etc. I actually love watching her interviews where she gets so irrate like the Angela Merkel one lol.

She did some faults, lack of training perhaps, but of course shes is a really a mezzo soprano. Amazing vocal.. She came from classical way as child by the way. Underrated, Nina Hagen deserves more attention today!

She has all the traits; rich and strong lower register, power in chest voice of the Dramatic Mezzo and Dramatic Soprano and the versatility in head voice of the Lyric, Coloratura and Dramatic Soprano in her head voice, and overall being able to sound more agile like a lighter (Lyric) voice or more powerful like a (Dramatic) voice.
