Holy crap, I just did mine after watching this video. It's so nice! Thank you so much for this little tip. Saved me a bunch of money. On Amazon they have picatinny to arca rail adapters for pretty cheap, which make it easy to mount my AR or anything with a picatinny rail. Thanks so much for this!
I am late to the party as usual but this is EXACTLY what I needed. My local gun shop tried explaining this to me but pictures/videos work better for my smooth brain haha. Appreciate the video hoss!!
I have the BOG DeathGrip Infinite Carbon Fiber Tripod and it has different dimensions. I had to cut the stem off of the ball to remove it. I next placed the Barker conversion adapter through the empty tripod base (no pvc/tape needed) and put some blue loctite, and tightened the base just a little more than hand tight. I placed my WEYLLAN CH55 Heavy Duty 360 Panoramic Tripod Head to it. I then removed the BOG Deathgrip ARCA adapter and attached the Little Crow DGA/ARCA Adapter to the bottom of the BOG DEATHGRIP. Just as good as a RRS Tripod! It holds my SAKO 300 WM and AR10 w/o a problem.
Just did step by step what you said and worked pretty well except the bolt length. I had seen In a previous comment that a 3” bolt is to long and after I did the conversion I have to agree. The 3” bolt when screwed all the way in, gets in way of the ball being able to move fully side to side especially into the fully vertical and horizontal slots. I’m sure a shorter bolt work just fine. Thanks for a great video and advice! Loving what this is turning into!
Thanks for the video. I need to do that to mine. I may put a Swiss Arca rail on the saddle to so I can use it with so guns I don't want rails on. Modifications are right up my alley 🤘👍.
Great mod!!! Thanks for the info on the parts to quickly convert to a swivel ball head. The major problem I had with my Death Grip was that the vise jaws do not clamp tight enough to prevent the elevation pivot from moving forward or backwards. and the rifle would tend to creep either muzzle up or down. This mod is great for railed rifles that can easily accommodate an Arca mlok adapter plate and the swivel base is great. Keep in mind however many traditional hunting rifle stocks would require some modifications to the stock to get an arca plate properly attached. A quick update on the mentioned required parts. The 3/4" PVC originally mentioned in the video is actually a piece of white PEX Pipe and the inner hole is actually smaller than 3/4". Do not use Sched 40 PVC for this mod, the 3/4" inner hole is way too big for the high pressure fiber reinforced water line tubing. I was able to get all the parts needed from Home Depot. Just start with the bolt and washers, walk over to the plumbing area and find the reinforced water tubing that will slip fit the 3/8" bolt (sold in 10' lengths only) Boo! Then find the smallest piece of 3/4" White Type B PEX Pipe that will slip fit the reinforced water tubing previously located in the same isle. Its located in a small rack under the longer pieces next to the blue and red PEX Pipe. I just trimmed my bolt with a thin disc grinder to the actual needed length during fitment. 3" is a bit too long unless you want to stack more washers. Don't forget your roll of Gorilla Tape and Good luck!!! The Mod works perfect!!!
Awesome video dude. I was about to buy a conversion kit which was $50. Looks like with some stuff at the hardware store I can do it for a couple bucks. Another win for the poors
@@BeaglerBassFishingOutdoors I just did this on my tripod. Only thing I did differently was just wrapping tape around the 3/8 tubing the bolt was in. Thanks for sharing all this man. You’re what the internet was meant for
Great video and was easy to do. I use the arca track with my bolt action rifles but I still wanted to use the clamp for other firearms that don't have that capability. The swivel ball head came with 2 plates. I just used one of them, drilled 4 holes and used the bolts from the BOG clamp and tightened it down. So the BOG clamp has a arca plate now and is easy just to attach and use if needed.
Awesome mod & it's always nice to be able to acquire the mounting parts from a local hardware store. Just ordered the death grip yesterday and after seeing this video, my new ball head will be here 2 days before my tripod arrives. Good head on your shoulders.
BTW I also went the Amazon card route and was given a $150 dollar discount on the tripod, which means I only spent $102 for the ball head....Hard to beat that.
If you want an improved version buy a PVC coupler...hollow out spacer inside and sand the out side down using a drill and sand paper...no tape needed...very rigid....then detach the saddle part and make an jig for the 4screw holes on the bottom...use the arca plate that comes with ball head and you can still use the saddle if needed
Great minds think alike. Doing the exact same thing with my BOG. Picked up an ARTCISE XB54 ball and a conversion mount that replaces the BOG mount. The only difference is I'm mounting my TenPoint FlatLine 460 crossbow.
Good stuff and a great idea. I finished the mod and found it was more stable than the saddle. I experimented and went farther. Below the ball head, and above the tripod, I placed a wider collar. I used a scrap PVC fitting to cut and shape a "ring" to fit between the head and tripod base. Now the head rests on a wider base, which rests on the tripod frame. Much less rocking with the weight of the rifle. Thanks for the video!
Cool! I was looking at buying the Bog tripod for my crossbow. For that application, obviously the clamp will work best. BUT, I also wanted a tripod for my precision rifle that already has an Area 419 Arca rail. This looks like a reasonable cost option for having one piece of equipment that serves dual purposes with a relatively simple conversion.
Can you send ya link to the arca adapter plate that fits the original bog death grip. I have so many wood stock bolt rifles and need to use the factory bog saddle.

@@BeaglerBassFishingOutdoorsyou can attach an arca plate to the bottom of the bog head so you can still use it with the ball head. You get the best of both. @@kenferguson2095 if it has the saddle like mine did. Yes
Luv me some beagles.
Thx! They are rabbit hunting dogs!
Hola, buen video, pero no a todos los rifles les puedes instalar en la culata un riel para este dispositivo, por ejemplo los de culata sintética
Is it 3/4” PVC? Or 1/2”? You say 3/4” in the video but link a 1/2”
1/2
Will the Cavix H46 44lb Ball joint work? It is half the cost $45 instead of $105. It should? there are others who use 22lb ball joint.
Of course the BOG Death grip is only rated for 20lb Lol... But I believe it will hold more.
I dont see why not!
Bro great vid...mind also adding a link to the bolt?
It should be there
Random but what compensator is on your rifle is that the kaw valley one
No idea. Had it sitting around. Lol
Do you have links for the ball head and everything?
In vid description
Never saw the need for the leveling bubble for shooting.
I agree
Myself.
I dont see the need for em in photography either.
But my new ball mount has one as does the BOG.
That way I have two things to ignore.
@@TrulyUnfortunate i agree
If you are going to pan, it's very important. If the ball mount isn't level, your panning won't be perfectly horizontal.
@@MAC702firearms
Sure it will.
It's a ball joint so it'll move wherever I point it.
A $5. bean bag does the same thing.
Carry a bean bag in a hog hunt.. lol
So you walked 500 yards across a field with a bean bag, tripod and gun? Let people do what they do and you do you.
Whats the name of the ball head?
All links to parts in the video description
Where's the link to buy that setup?
In video description
what's the adaptor that goes on the ball mount - to match the rail adaptor?
oh, never mind. It looks like it's already there - below the standard camera mount - right?
Its all in the vid with links to products in description!
Ok have 5/8 od x 3/8 id braided hose but it will not fit inside of a 1/2 id x 5/8 od PVC pipe
Hmmm made this vid a while ago.. all the stuff i listed fits.. weird
What's crazy is I was at home depot and it would not fit the pre cut 2ft sticks but would the full 10ft sticks of the same pipe lol I think I'm gonna try to 3d print something instead of the tape and PVC 🤞 thanks
Do you have a schematic on how the Bog head goes back together? I started taking mine apart and everything fell out with the pieces coming apart. Now I don't know how it goes back together. I'Ve tried several combinations with no luck. Nothing on the internet I can find and Bog Support hasn't gotten back to me in 5 days. Any help would be great!!
No i dont but its fairly easy
You could have bought the DG light LMAO
Thx for watching!
They make a ball head version now.
Yup i saw!
@@BeaglerBassFishingOutdoors I was just about to do this conversion when an add popped up for it 😂
So I bought it. 😆
Do you have a link ?
@@errtuley how is it? How’s the quality?
@@erikjohnson5608
It's not a manfroto but IMHO it is great quality. It holds my 22# mpa rifle just fine
If you like the saddle, you can take all that shit off it and put an adapter on it can't you?
Thats exactly what i did in the vid.
Good info thanks
Thx for watching!
“That’s not going nowhere”
That’s a double negative genius you just said it is going somewhere
Lol just giving you a hard time I actually love the conversation nice work!
Thank you!
One time i bought a head and the girl charged me like $200
Lol
You overpaid by 180 bucks my friend!
@@caldwell5078 where can i get a better deal?
@@CHAD-RYAN right next to any meth dealer
@@caldwell5078 are you talking about jessei pinkman?
Or you could just buy the bog infinite wich has the ball head on it already and is carbon fiber instead of hillbilly deluxing it
Workd for me! Thx for watching!
Yup, that's the one I bought, just got it in today. Works great. Can't wait to take it to Idaho on a muke deer hunt.
@@matthewkyle6939 heck yea!! Enjoy
Blah blah blah!!
Thank you sir!
Thx for watching!
I couldn’t afford the BOG so I converted my Primos Gen 2 Trigger Stick to be able to mount my rifle! I would prefer and inexpensive more robust lightweight tripod! Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Cheapest way i found was with the bog
I've commented on this article before. I took your concept and modified it. Feel free to contact me and I'll give you the setup and you can do another how to post. Thanks for the idea. Mine came out perfect👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Thx for watching!
I would like to know how you modified the plan. Please contact me.
Easy solution! Just don't buy the bog. Buy the artcise carbon fiber 82 with the 75mm bowl for the same price as the bog and both are made in China but the artcise carbon fiber 82 is way better
Thx for watching
This is for those of use who already purchased a BOG 🤨🤨🤨
