  • Gave neck training a shot after thinking about it for years, and hearing Andrew Huberman and Tim Ferris bring it up on Tim's podcast. The results were interesting.

    The towel neck crunches have made the biggest change to my face and posture. A good few weird looks in the gym or people coming over and asking if I do contact sports. Wrestlers and boxers do this.

    I suffered a concussion 6 months ago and all my muscles just disappeared. My body got so weak that my neck and throat muscles had a hard time holding my head up which resulted in pain... strange. Anyway, it was then I began working my neck through similar exercises as in this video. I then realised how important it was. Training the neck will be with me for the rest of my life.
    Liked the video!

    I started doing this a little over a month ago. I use bands about every five days. I'm 82 and have noticed the loose skin us old farts have under our chins, has gotten smaller. I didn't have this in mind when I started. I started because I was having a hard time turning my head far enough sometimes to see oncoming traffic. All I can say is that it works. I do 15 to 25 reps on all four sides. I am still a little reluctant to go to a bigger bands but I am starting to think about it. I have trained for over sixty years three to four times a week, but never any neck work. So far so good. I would recommend it.

    Going to add this to my training. Always have been self conscious about my neck after having radiation therapy for hodgkins disease when I was 17. Received treatment in my neck and chest area. It's hard to find a definitive answer if I would have permanent muscle atrophy in those areas. I'm sure it's not good, but hopefully training my neck couldn't be a bad thing for many of the benefits you mentioned even if can't achieve the full asthetic aspect I was hoping to accomplish.

    • @oneinchpunched3661

      If you use correct technique and dont go to hardcore with weights or reps, why not everyday. Its like the one bodypart that is always at work whether you are sitting down or standing up. It needs to be strong. And dont forget to warm it up a bit and stretch it before and after. You dont even have to use weights or a bench. You can do all those exercises in front of the mirror, using only your hands/palms as resistance too. But remember, be mindful of technique. Dont pull/push too far. Start slow and light, and feel your way, and look in the mirror for correct posture. Then add pressure. I have set it as a routine after brushing my teeth (to remember it) and it takes about 10-15 minutes, and then your head rests like a baby on the pillow.

      @@ahmarammar4024 I don't think that's a reason to not grow it. If training volume and tension is enough (even if variable) you can still get stronger and grow. I am sure ive a thicker neck than when I started 8 months ago. And I'm probably stronger on it too.

    • @ahmarammar4024
      @ahmarammar4024 Před 25 dny

      @RDD87z But bro, where is the progressive overload. You have to increase the weight with time, and sometimes, you might be going easier and sometimes harder it wouldn't create enough stimulus to build strength and muscle. I mean, you wouldn't get that much benefit from using your hands rather than adding resistance via weights or simply gravity. If you're seeing the results, then good for you, but I wouldn't do that.
