  • Watch Phil and Jason while they hunt for spring bass using fresh peeler crab in South Wales.
    They fish an estuary mark after picking a few peelers before the tide floods in.
    Jason fishes with standard Bristol Channel tackle while Phil tries a slightly lighter approach.
    Tune in to see who catches the most!

    Great video lads. Never grab the line!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially with bass. As soon as you've done that one head shake and they're gone because the bend in the rod isn't keeping the tension on the line!! Never mind. The bass fishing has really improved over the last few years!! Beautiful mark too.

    • @BanditFishingUK
      @BanditFishingUK  Před 3 lety +1

      We had boulders between us and the fish - no way of beaching it. Jason had small hooks on and one was in the bass via a sliver of skin on the lip. Tension was never lost. A net would have done it.
      Plus Jason made a meal out of it

      @@BanditFishingUK it's one of those times you have to sacrifice a spine in the finger or a cut from the gills lol. A firm grip on the shoulders is my go to. I had to do it for Tom on the recent bass he's been catching. Even if the rod looks bent the line between your hand and the fish will have lost tension when the fish is thrashing. Usually the tip absorbes that keeping it pinned. It happens though and luckily there was still plenty of fish to be had. Still a great day on the bank.

    Back in the day, whenever we fished a place like this we used to cast to the centre of the gulley at low water and tie a piece of cotton on the line just above the reel. That way you could place your bait in the gulley when it was flooded.

    • @BanditFishingUK
      @BanditFishingUK  Před 3 lety

      Spot on, that’s a good method for being accurate. The other way is to simply use the line clip on the reel spool. In this situation the channel was at Phil’s max range with the lighter rods and Jason was lined up perfectly with it so we didn’t need to but thanks for the great input 👍🏼🎣

    Great sessions guys. One tip I would give you is to stand right by your rods. Bass can take and eject a bait in seconds. As soon as I see a bite I tighten the line slightly if the rod goes down I wind into the fish - never strike it at close range. 95% of my bass are lip hooked. They almost never take a bait down! Looking forward to some more of these videos !

      It’s personal preference when casting whether you hang the bait from the grip wires or not.

      Phil used quite a short snood here so it was fine to cast with it hanging freely.

    Great video lads, like the look of that rig, quick question, a regular beach mark where I fish for bass also throws up hounds, would that rig be suitable for hounds as well? I’d be inclined to go with a gripper lead myself, what do you reckon?

    • @BanditFishingUK
      @BanditFishingUK  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes this rig should work for hounds and other fish.
      The rig is just a running ledger with the extra swivel. Before the pulley came about it was one of the main rigs along with a paternoster.
      If you need to cast any sort of distance you might be better using a clipped rig such as a pulley as the running ledger is for close or medium range work.
      Thanks for watching David

    • @BanditFishingUK
      @BanditFishingUK  Před 3 lety +5

      As you would have seen previously we are very open about the marks we fish. This time we have been deliberately vague.
      The reasons for this are that we were told about this mark by friends and more importantly it is a VERY DANGEROUS mark to fish.
      We almost got caught out on this very session when we had our backs against a cliff and feet in the water for a long time over high, even on a relatively small tide.
      We don’t want to encourage our viewers to endanger themselves so we’ve left the exact location out.
      Of course there will be other anglers out there who know the mark already or will find out but there are plenty of safer estuary marks from the Gower to Pembrokeshire where you will catch plenty of bass.

      Hi Andrew. As in an earlier answer we deliberately didn’t say the exact location of this mark for good reason.
      It’s a very dangerous mark where you can (and will) get cut off by the tide. We were almost in deep trouble on this very day when the water came up unexpectedly high even on a smaller tide. There are plenty of safer estuary marks between the Gower and Pembrokeshire as I said earlier.
      I’m sorry it’s probably not the answer you wanted but we can’t encourage our viewers to fish somewhere they could get in trouble.
