I first heard this song years ago on an indie radio station at 4am. I was driving home from my 3rd shift job, through a deserted area of downtown. It roared through the airwaves and lit a fire within me. It saved me from a very deep depression. I don't know why most things happen, but I will be forever grateful that this tune just happened to crackle through the ether that night. If anyone reading this is having a rough go at it, do not give up. You can find yourself again. I promise.
I just was bored at school and randomly searched up “son of a bitch”
Greatest search I ever made
Have you ever thought about writing? That's a good short read, I like the description and word usage. Poetic.
I'm happy that this music helped you.
Also, good for you
Amen brother
Got chills reading this. 🤗
I just love the way he says "son of a bitch!"
It's not offensive nor insulting at all, it's almost endearing haha
Yes it is!
Well yeah it’s not directed at anyone it’s just used as an exclamation
He's directing it at the bartender
@@marctozie1092 I always spelled SUNOVABITCH
My mother would agree.
I'm a 78 year old English lady (and I don't drink) but I absolutely love the passion and performance of this song. Keep playing it.
Agreed
210 days sober, I'll never drink again, I'm sure I went through my alcohol quota faster than most so I'm all done now
I am 63 yr old French non-drinker also--but we've certainly known guys who could've written this song (if they had Talent) & that's what makes this song/performance great--and a splendid hoot to boot!
@@JanetDaley-solo My favourite is Never Get Old....not sure if that's the exact title! Love it!
I'm an Irish non-drinker! This vibes of this song are 10/10! :)
First time i heard this song was on a mexican coc xanax & 4 loco binge in Houston tx. Setting in a parking lot wanting desperately to get clean, this song plays. "My heart is breaking, hands are shaking, bugs crawling over me" described exactly how i felt. & in that moment i didn't feel alone. .
4 weeks later tx Marshalls showed up at my door.
Thank God for redemption & supernatural transformation. I'm now 6 years clean.
Congratulations! I just had 20 years of benzos for insomnia, which disabled me and had me housebound and bedridden. I quit them - I was addicted, though I only took them "as prescribed" - and to my astonishment, got my life back. But being on them for 20 years made for some spectacular hallucinations, so I too underwent a shamanic journey with supernatural forces aiding me. I had a goddess helping me taper off - acting like some sort of supernatural sponsor! I'm so glad you got clean. I've been off 10 years, and it took going back to the trauma, grief and stresses that were the reason I took them in the first place to stay clean with the hell that is benzo withdrawal. I learned to write them out, shake and dance them through and out of me, and befriend the most challenging emotions instead of running from them. Bless Peter Levine and his trauma work, and my women's trauma group! With their help, I could revisit the worst scenes in my life - fully feel the repressed emotions, release them and heal them. Good for you and I'm SO glad this song inspired you to quit!
Congratulations! Feels good, doesn't it? I'm 10 years off clonazepam myself. Took it mostly as prescribed, but I was completely dependent on it and it disabled me for 20 years. By tapering off that and 4 other equally useless prescriptions, I got my life back! Facing the grief and trauma that led me to med and learning to heal that has helped me stay clean. 6 years is a long time -- you're on the right path now!
Heard what? The tannoy at the train station? 😂
HELL YES.
Congratulations.
One day at a time.
It's probably time I gave this song some public love. I finally shook the booze. On my journey from bad to worse to being afraid of stopping, I have wailed this song over and over with all my lungs. This one is a keeper for time past ours I think. Impressive piece of music in every way.
Proud of you keep up the hard good work
One day at a time. Drank for over twenty years and today is two years, four months and two days.
SCREAM IT AS LOUD AS YOU CAN! Beat the bottle. You can do it. If it helps a stranger on the internet is proud of you. You got this!
Keep coming back... WE GOT THIS
Stay strong, sister
“Now for seventeen years I've been throwing them back
Seventeen more will bury me”
This line is what started my road to sobriety. I remember trying to calculate how long I’d been drinking and realizing it had been around 17 years but also knowing I wouldn’t live more than a few more if I didn’t stop.
Been sober for about 6.5 years now.
To anyone struggling with alcoholism know that you are not alone and that it’s never too late to stop. Life is a gift.
I think I'm at that point right now, that line just keeps hitting harder and harder...
@@NagnarInaste I can tell you that my life now is infinitely better than when I was drinking. If I can do it anyone can. Good luck to you.
So glad you're free of it , and still with us.
Blessings upon you.
Stay strong and stay well.
Peace
1.5 years for me , I had to quit my body started to shut down and it scared the hell out of me!! But I'm thankful I quit, never felt better in my life!!!
@@NagnarInastehow are you coming along?
Sober. Sane.Twelves years This song made me stand up and dance in my room. Just excellent.
The greatest upbeat, feel good song about living through a wide awake, living nightmare of epic proportions. It takes a lot of talent from a lot of people to pull this off. And they get bonus points for the Blues Brothers video. 🤘🏼
As an alcoholic. This song makes me feel justified and proud. I might be missing the point.
You just won the internet! I am dying here! :))))))
Bob smith may very well be disappointed in ya but I sure as fuck ain't
I feel you 👍
Yup
Hey man you do you. But I will say the better a reason for you to self medicate, the more it is a bad idea.
My dad died at 74 years old two years ago, this was his FAVORITE SONG! He used to make me play it all the time! My dad was a heavy drinker, but an even heavier smoker... So here I am on my second fathers day without him, enjoying a joint & listening to this song, I love and miss you dad! This is for you!
If you see this comment while struggling with addiction, I want you to know that it is never too late, I believe in you, I pray for you, and someone loves you. Amen.

God Bless. They say the pain gets less overtime. It truly does. I don’t know how.
But it does. Or it at least seems to. ✌🏻
Byw, I’m 61. Your dad was truly in the good days! For me the 70s were just as good but that’s because I was a little kid in the 60s and didn’t know what I was missing out on, and still got to enjoy ALL THE MUSIC, having much older sister siblings!
I set this as my ringtone. It starts out "SOB gimme a drink!" it went off in an awkward meeting and broke the ice and eased the tension. Love this song.
Excellent ring tone for judgemental and obnoxious relatives. Remember folks, healthy boundaries 😊
😂😊😂😊😂😊😂😊
"My heart's aching, my hands are shaking, bugs crawling all over me".
This was me about 9 years ago. Everytime I romanticize my drinking, I come back to this song to remind me of where it will end up.
I hope other's struggling to get sober find something that works for them. Keep seeking, keep trying. It's worth it. You're worth it.
It will all end up with a hit single?
Always play the tape forward brother
Bruh I was there 10 months ago. Doing so much better now. Do NOT miss those withdrawls.
While I've not had an issue with drinking, I do firmly believe that this song has been a public service to folks........and it's a great tune to boot!!
Every now and then, maybe twice in a lifetime, a song comes along that is so perfect, so pure and distilled, that it earns your undying love. Like this one.
Elidoransgar 🤗🤗
EXACTLY how I feel about this song!
Otherwise known as ever song "The Score" wrote.

Elidoransgar try 'when I'm drinking whiskey' by Rusty Cage, makes me cry
Rateliff and his gang are nothing less than sensational. One of the most original sounds in ages. His music and lyrics reek of authenticity. Love this stuff. Gets you where you live. If you any soul at all ... and "Need Never Get Old" should be the national anthem for boomers (and everybody else for that matter)!
Gerry Lantz while I agree he's sensational, it's hard to agree with "original". He's doing stuff that's been done for a long time and has been done recently as well, but you might not have heard it. This music is an extension of R&B of the 50's and 60's with a good dose of Soul and pure Blues from generations before that thrown in for good measure.
The result? Good old fashioned Rock & Roll. Sadly that's a genre that's been so spread out and corporatized as to not mean much of anything anymore. I'm sure that's what you meant with your comment, and you were just saying you haven't heard something like this for a while. Regardless, you don't have to look much further than what Jack White has been doing for the last decade or so to find a contemporary (no matter what you might think of the result).
Either way, I felt the need to respond in case anyone else didn't know- there's stuff like this around- you'll just never find it on broadcast radio.
Authentic, like you said, is the best way to describe it. He's clearly making music like it should be- from deep within his soul. And likely from some pain. That's why I think it creates such a reaction from people like us that are open to hearing that in our music.
Gerry Lantz I wouldn't say original. More so classic.
Compared to the rest of mainstream music nowadays it might as well be Sanskrit.
Gerry Lantz. a fucker u jew looking fucker well said and written inpress
Gerry Lantz If you get a chance to see them live, it's well worth it.
I saw them last week here in Portland and they were AMAZING! Some of the best R&B I've heard in years!

Whoa.
Thank you, Nathan. Thank you, Night Sweats.
Greetings from Sudbury Ontario!
This is super dark but that moment of pure joy at 3:08 is the exact feeling when you’ve try to give up the bottle and you go for that first drink. Stay strong to all those in sobriety!
💯
It's got the right amount of blues and rock and damn this song is so freaking good.
Hell yeah it is
This reminds me of Cash, Perkins, n all at Folsom Prison live....The eye contact 💓💓 awesome videographer, band, and lead singer too! I can't stop watching and dancing along. So blessed I got turned on to them lately in my life❤️ Makes me smile and feel alright.
Blues Brothers at the end with the names on screen.
I'm about to go to rehab. This song is awesome. Hold my hand yall.
The hardest time is the first month.
If you still have your phone in rehab, I'll be here for you.
Sorry youtube doesn't have direct messages anymore.
Thanks!
Why? U put yourself into ur situation, hope the best for ur recovery but am never gonna hold an addicts hand
@lslice5283 just friendly, not sure why someone would not want to help someone in need and letting the world know about it as well. I nice hug or a good hand shake never hurt anyone. I'm not really sure how to take that comment. I do certainly hope you enjoy your morning/evening/ night.
@@lslice5283 and please learn how to spell. Best of luck with your grammar.
This song made me run out and buy the CD when it first came out. Love everything about Nathaniel Rateliff he's a genuine singer. I wish him the best in all of his future endeavors. 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸 Virginia, USA
This tune epitomizes why I love the blues. It's a genre of music that deals in the unvarnished truth about the basest of human experiences, urges and emotions, and it somehow does so with poignancy and even humor while conveying wisdom. It's raw and honest. If you don't believe me, read the hundreds of responses here from alcoholics to whom this song speaks. It's far more than a rockin' tune.
Beautifully stated … 👍🏻
Bro, I never thought of it that way but you’re right, the blues are about the base emotions, not candy coated at all.
We know... God bless us all. It DOES bring hope and meaning!
Epistemologically speaking, I am 100% with you! I now realise why I love this song so much - and did not have a clue about the ramifications underpinning my preference for blues.
I didn't consider this a blues song, but you're right
My daughter introduced me to this group just 3 days ago......in my seventies now...this group is definitely old time rock and roll ...this song & their performances are great !
My son in law introduced this group to me. I am also in my 70's and I totally agree. Love the sound!
Yes they do have that feel
Dennis Fontana bless your soul darling. They don't make anything like they used to....and I'm only 41. Happy returns from Australia
same here, but not 70 yet, lol.
Amir Frost that's gold man😂😂
So many of us have been where he was when he wrote this song! And yet we haven't had the wit and talent to channel that experience into something as unique and special (and reflective of the experience) as this song. Great job, Nathaniel and the Night Sweats.
Nathaniel Rateliff, with his voice, his build, his energy and his style of music reminds me a lot of John Belushi as Jake Blues.
I'm glad I'm not the only one to hear the similarities.
@@tiltz7275 You're not. 30 years ago, this would have been a key or two lower and the Blues Brothers would be killing it!
I wish John was still alive. He could be the son of jake Blues in a sequel movie.
Great inspiration of the end of the Blues Brothers!
Once an alcoholic always an alcoholic. Been sober 32 years. And this song still rings true.
Anyone trying to get clean, I’m proud of you 👍🏼
Proud of you too!! Effort 👌 💪 🙂
very proud of you my brother, I am embroiled very deeply in my battle with the bottle and have yet to conquer it. Congratulations to you sir, you did what must be done.
@Askew Hey Askew, don't give up! I'm 10 days clean after downing close to half a handle of vodka every day for close to 2 years. My withdrawals were so bad that I thought I was dying and ended up in the hospital.
They gave me a prescription (some type of benzo) that I could slowly tapered off of over the course of 5 days. It is honestly the only reason I'm 100% clean right now.
Once you make it through the physical withdrawals, the cravings will still be strong. Just remember to breathe and drink water whenever the stress starts welling up and don't reach for the bottle. It's one of the hardest things I've ever done but I feel a million times better. If I can do it anyone can.
Just got my 2 Year chip what a ride
@@bill8699 congrats, I'm almost a month away from 1 month clean. It feels so good not being physically and mentally dependent on that poison anymore. I feel like myself again.
I feel like I just watched Shawshank, Oh Brother Where Art Thou and Blues Brothers all in one sitting.
Seems like an homage to the Blues Brothers to me.
+Jorge Munguia i think it is
+kylefer Not Shawshank, Oh Brother, Where art Thou.
+Steven Beazley I watched it yesterday, what a movie
+kylefer I been REDEEMED! *grin* Loved your comment!
When I first heard this in my car, I nearly drove off the road in laughter. Thank you, Mr. Rateliff. I still love it.
After 30 years of hard partying with periods of sobriety and clean living I packed it in at age 45. Next month 60 and the past 15 years have been a blessing. To anyone struggling, once you decide, freedom awaits you… peace
Hope I reach your maturity one day. I'm in the throws of it but Ive talked to enough ex alcoholics to realise the problem.
Wish me luck, I need it like the rest of us... Until then...
Son of a bitch, get me a drink.
You all have the strength to stop anything within your lives but death! Alcohol brings death no matter what our minds tell us. Ignore those demonds and focus on you second by minute by hour by day by week by month by year...
The lie is dead. We do recover.
I rode on a plane from San Diego to Denver last night with Nathaniel and his entire band. Very cool.
This is fucking brilliant and he was 37 for his debut album, which shows how difficult it is in the music business. Incredible artistry and creativty.
It’s made with real instruments and real musicians. It’s not Charlie Puth!!
That's not true, he played in a band called Born In The Flood and released and album in 2007, then began a "solo" career and released two albums one in 2010 and another in 2013. Finally he collaborated with the Night Sweats and released this album in 2015. So no this was not his debut album
i like the music but i wouldn't call this the epitome of creativity lmao people will say anything
@@mikigamba true, I've been listening to him since 2009 ish. But this is definitely his breakthrough album, which still shows OPs point about music industry being difficult. In fact, if I recall correctly, I read somewhere that he was almost at the point of giving up and this Night Sweats album would be maybe his last. But it was such a huge hit, he was able to continue. I personally like his solo efforts more. But he's super talented for sure.
My 37 year old daughter turned me on to this band, I'm 65, so impressed that they are for all generations...
I love this song! It’s so moving. Really sums up the struggle. ‘Bugs crawling all over me!’ The book “Living Sober” helped me a lot in the early days. It has basic & concrete advice for how to stay away from that first drink, just for today. It took me 2 years to get 90 days. Then I had a year sober. Then I had a year again. Then I had 2.5 years. Today by the Grace of God I have 20 years. I still have “just today” though. I am so grateful to be alive and free today. It gets easier. Also better than I could have ever imagined. It’s a new life, a different life, & I’m a different person. God bless those still sick & suffering. You are not alone.
Our 43-yr old alcoholic son is moving back to his mom & dad's for the zillionth time today. He's had 2 marriages ruined by drinking. 2 long term live-in situations ruined by drinking. 2 children, aged 21 and 15, who want nothing to do with him. I believe he became committed to drinking after his first episode of getting smashed as a teenager. So many "rock bottoms." So many, "this time sobriety for sures!" I would sure like to not do this anymore at age 71.
Just saw your post from 11 months ago. I hope things are working out for you & your son. I hope he finds a recovery program to give him guidance and support. Also, Al-Anon is a good resource for the loved ones of an alcoholic. There’s the saying about when an airplane is in turbulence, and the oxygen masks come down- you have to put the oxygen on yourself before you put it on your baby. In other words, you have to take care of yourself. Sometimes that can mean tough love. Wishing you peace and strength so that your journey may get easier 🙏
As a psychiatric nurse working on the addiction department, I'm taking this song to perform together with some clients 😅 Wish us luck!
have to upload it
As a previous client, from somewhere else, I approve this! 😅
I can't think of anything worse when detoxing 😂 just give them librium & let them sleep.
I hope it went great!
Maybe just play the song lol
This comment section beautiful. So much love!
For those still struggling I recommend bookmarking this for the song obviously, but also to read the the comments and know that these are very real testimony from people in your exact situation and the strength that can be found amongst each other is way more powerful than you will ever believe. But I guarantee you will feel it if you just never ever give up.
Relapses happen to some. The only failure is to quit trying to recover.
Progress not perfection!
I had never heard of this song. When I first heard it sounded like church music. Now it has become 1 of my favorites.
It *is* church music. It's dedicated to Bilious, the "Oh God!" of hangovers.
Rebel5012 Catholic Churches drink it up! Amen brother! Been drinking since first communion
Heard this for the first time last night. Awesome song! It hits home for me. Been sober 4 months.
Just saw him in concert. IT WAS AWESOME! Full of energy.
One of the best bands i've ever seen live... In a sweaty packed standing concert. Just electrifying.
I couldn't take a photo because the ground was literally bouncing beneath me, i couldn't keep my hands still.
Awesome vibe. If this ain't played at my funeral then I ain't going.
LOL!!! Yup :)
Hellz to the yeah!
Dear and precious, the 1st time I heard this song I was in Austin listening to Sun radio. All of the people in Miss Judy house were initialed to have the opportunity to change the radio station if it started to yoldle. My house was a happy house that evolved into a trap house. Ohwell so much for coddling the homeless....but Sweetheart this song united the masses. I am enthralled and I wish I had the opportunity to meet your daddy
Thanks for the idea, I'm gonna demand it be played at my own funeral too! Much to the dismay of family I'm sure but who cares, I'll be dead, Hahaha!
We got a runner!
I have been sober since 12/6/2001. I have not known this artist prior to stumbling on this and 2 other of his videos today, 7/22/2022. This guy is awesome!! I haven't stumbled on much new (to me) music lately. Love this!!
Funny enough, this song came out the week I got out of rehab. Could not have been better timing. It's brilliant and sums up everything I and millions of others have gone through.
Driving with my 5 year old sister in the car while this song plays, she's clapping along and bursts out, "SANDWICH! GET ME A DRINK!" I haven't laughed harder and I doubt I ever will.
That's hilarious
Brought a grin to my face!
I needed that laugh!
lol too funny sounds better her way lol
Someone should make that video....
this song really helped me alot through rehab..

This song actually helped me quit my alcoholism and drug addiction this year I will be four year's sober and clean and there's not a day that goes by where I don't still struggle even though I made it thus far.
Congratulations!! More power to you!!
My brother identified our brothers body at 16.......he drank hard until he couldn't drink another. Died at 48. Rip Rex. He would have loved this song. He was hard and full of pain.
Hi Kim💐💐
My name is Nathaniel and I’m trying to get sober, I’m a few days in and these withdrawals are fucking killing me. This song is helping me get through it.
Edit: I relapsed because I’ve been dealing with a lot of shit in my life but I realize that drinking is only making things worse. I’m not going to give up, I’m going to give it my all to stop, I can’t keep living like this. Thank you all so very much for all the kind messages. I’ll keep y’all updated on my journey and I hope that anyone else that’s struggling like I am finds the strength to quit.
U CAN do it! Praying for u...
Good luck!! You can get through it!!
Still praying, Nathaniel.the 😊
You can do this, Nathaniel. I don’t know what you’re going through with alcohol (my vice was cigarettes, and after open-heart surgery - 5x bypass - I quit cold turkey ten years ago), but you’ll make it through. Focus on the goal (kids, job, etc) on the other side of it.
i wish you the best of luck (L)
"Bugs are crawling all over my skin" is a line written by a man that's gone through the DT's. Hits home lol. Love these guys
I totally know what you mean. The instrumental part of the song sounds so upbeat, but the subject matter tells a different story. DT's hits home with me too.
Yep. I did detox and there WERE bugs all over the bed. Worst 2 week nightmare and I haven't had a drink since. Almost 3 years ago. I drank for over 20 years.

The feeling of having shared in a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us.
Listen to aic wake up great song
Wether it gets lost in the comments or not, glad it helped you! Keep on!
How do 19 thousand people listen to this and dislike it? That takes an effort to listen to it enough to dislike it based upon the tune, or displays an obvious racial prejudice towards the soulful, gospel vibe running through it. Bloody love it! UK getting it!
My step dad of 25 years came to my grandsons birthday party and blasted this song. He got away with it because of who he was. We lost him to colon cancer a year and a half ago. It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. Wow. He would have loved this video so I come by here often to spend a little time with him.
Hi Lore 💐💐
wow!!! Love these songs that are originals no synthesizers no using electronics to alter voices....just pure voices & instruments love these bands getting back to original music making....!! Wish you much success & blessings on your journey to being known !
I'm 79 and these days truly good musical talent like this is rare if it exists at all. NDR dared to be different and it's paying off. Back in the 50s, 60s & 70s I thought the great music would go on forever....but it virtually ceased to exist by the 90s.
I love this song. This is a song that will stand the test of time. There is so much soul pouring out of the lyrics. Pure American heritage!!!
+Amanda Dillow Pseudo-soul
I read this comment right when the webber barbecue commercial said "stand the test of time" on TV. That was creepy lol.
American Heritage ?
I think I took this on a whole different way being an opiate addict for over 7 years I just thought maybe he was withdrawing LOL I think I took this on a whole different way
+Mario Rivera i heard it as them singing about addiction as well :D but still a great song
To juxtapose the darkness of alcoholism with an upbeat melody successfully is no easy task, but they've done it and it's brilliant. Love this song and love my upbeat, alcoholic soul mate for sharing it with me. ; )
+JessicIt a Marino It reminds me in a strange way of Semi-Charmed Kind of Life. It's uplisting, but the lyrics are soulfell and sad Addiction is sad.
I don't know why, but I love this song!
As an alcoholic who wants to sober up, this is exactly how it feels. "If I can't get clean, I'm gonna drink my life away." Somebody please just tie me down or somebody give me a goddamn drink
29 months sober and I still have days like that.
@@emmalowe1132 Congratulations on your sobriety! I'm happy for you. My best run was a year and a month
I wish you strength to overcome this horrible disease..I truly believe it is genetic that goes back generations..I say this because I lost 3 brothers to that damn alcohol..one in a car wreck, one with liver failure, and the last his heart gave out due to decades of drinking..they all drank like my biological father, who in fact was a horrible, mean alcoholic who never was in our lives until years later..his father died of it in his 30s and his father was found in a field, passed out on moonshine and died of winter exposure..
I pray for you Dakota and all who struggle with this horrific disease..🙏❤
you got this shit dude. you can do it. its really hard i know. stay strong.
@Dakota Smith Hey dude i want an update on how you are doing.
Such a tune!!!
Love it as well spencer

Nathaniel Radcliffe is absolutely amazing. I just can't get over how awesome this man is. He is the real deal. Love ' em! 😊💕
somehow reminds me of Nate from The Dead South...
One of the best at the Sea Hear Now Festival. I yelled this song as he sang it and still couldn't hear myself. What a party these guys can throw.
Got my 5th DUI recently. Today marks my 3rd day sober. Cheers to many more! 🎉
Update: relapsed and got kicked out of my house
I love it when 1 in a 1000 artists that you tube suggests I can't stop listening to. I can't believe I haven't heard of Nathaniel Rateliff before. Definitely on my favourites list. what a song!
Daryl Jackson I was watching Titans and this came on. Shazamed it, and here I am. No regrets!
My 18 month old son and I heard this song on the way home from work/daycare yesterday for the first time. Apparently we both immediately fell in LOVE with your music! It was obvious after I found him clapping along to the song th entire time... Dancing in his seat... And singing "ooo ooo"! We both had smiles from ear to ear and when the song was over... He cried!!! I had to immediately find the song online and we've listened to it at least a dozen times since then with the same reaction!!!
Beautiful music you're creating!! Thank you for helping me introduce my little boy to the joy of the sounds!
+Brenton Sullivan, when and where will he be in Boston??
One. Your son is a one year old.
Just say a year and a half i hate people that say the age of their baby in months damn
+Samantha Sarvat Strange my 1344 month old son had the same reaction...
+StrongManMattt 112. Your son is 112 years old.
This song always makes me smile!! ❤❤😊😊😊🎶
i’m 21 and i’ve been drinking since i was around 15. alcoholism runs in my family. me and my dad struggle with it. it messed his life up and it has already begun to mess mine up. i want to stop but it’s very hard im even drinking this while listening to this. i guess ill have to learn the hard way and ik its going to be a hell of a journey. everyone that quit good on to you ❤
Just keep that mind set brotha, I think you’ll find your way. I’m still trying to find mine at 26
@@jacobgutierrez9231 thanks man, best of luck to you on your path
Good luck to you brother. I'm on the path same as you and I think literally in the same boat.
If it's any consolation, what I hear from the real alcoholics, awareness is the start of the road to sobriety.
@@UtterlyClueless1appreciate it man. best of luck to you in your journey as well. times ticking for both of us
Dean Winchester's anthem.
Hells yeah, dude.
damn straight!!!
Best comment yet maybe?
your comment made me day haha
+Ryan Sullivan Goddamnit. No matter where I go I can't escape Supernatural.
DAMN! This guy can SING! Love it!
and dance too
Got nothing but love for this song❤❤❤❤❤❤
Heard this song the first time live at a music festival. It was the best, my first exposer Nathaniel and the Night Sweats. I love them now but my speakers will never be able to replicate the energy of hearing it live.
Any band that has a horn section automatically doubles their "bad ass" rating.
blueslove61 reel big fish?
Good Wood
Why you gotta shit on my rainbow?
Hell yea!!
Yesssssss!!!
blueslove61 it's called Ska..check it out bro
I love his facial expressions and carefree moves. How is this man so effortlessly cool.
Yup. "Effortlessly cool." Hot.
I was coming here to write the same thing!! I LOVE his facial expressions and the way he moves (not to mention his voice!!) In their video for "I need never get old" I especially love the look on his face when the drummer is at the mike! I think he could have a career in the movies! and you are so right Prothope ..."effortlessly cool" indeed!!! He is my new crush!
He's being real. That's the thing.
+Adam 1 My guess would be that he's an active alcoholic.
Prothope ikr
I'm a relic from the MTV generation so its nice to know a great song can still make a classic video
How have I only just discovered this!
So refreshing to hear quality creative music.
Also appreciated the nod to the Blues Brother Jailhouse Rock roll call 👌
Nothing like having the skill to make me shake my ass to alcoholism, the horrors of DT’s, with a shot, no chaser of harmonized A Cappella honesty. I love this freakin’ band!!! Excellent video as well!!! Well done Sirs!!! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻😎😎😎
Just heard this song on the radio. I love it!! Sounds so old school without the musical trickery of most of today’s music. And the Blues Brothers tribute is genius!
A long childhood in church tells me that this is Revival music! I'm on my way to the Altar!
In his younger days, Nathaniel did perform with a gospel rock group.
I don't care what kind of mood you're in - this song definitely has the power to get your hands clapping and feet stomping.
WOW. I thought this kind of music was dead forever. This guy is a GODSEND.
Last night the boys and I shouted this at the bartender. Sure, the bouncer threw us out, but the other patrons laughed like it was the end of the world.
What, is that the first time You've been 86'd from a bar?
HisDukeNess Let's just say that there's few bars in town for me and the boys.
+Aramis419 You sound like annoying fuckwits.
marty slackjaw Depends on the bartender. The one we love and respect. The other is...well...not very likable.
I think you might improve the happiness of the other bar customers if you and your "boys" drank at home.
I can't escape the churchy/blues sound of a genuine cry for salvation combined with the awareness that he lacks the strength to do it himself.
🙏 W O W...

@@ginachristine7721Thank you.
I am opening up a bar(my first) in two weeks. I plan to play this song as my first tune. I also am planning on playing it once a week by myself in the bar prior to opening to remind me that alcohol is not all fun and games. Good luck to everyone out there.
***Update. After 2 weeks open, I did play this as my first song. I play it every Wednesday morning (our week starts Wednesday-Monday). Absolutely crank it. Played it three times so far. Very grounding.
@@NorthernWisconsinandStuff That is AWESOME! I love it! I can just imagine being there while you play this song. 🍻🍺🥂🥃
I've had several bars...all of them successful....number one rule of any owner or even manager is never ever drink in your own bar....//
When he says, my heart was breaking, my hands were shaking, bugs were crawling all over me … with so much feeling … I know he’s been there … love this song
This is the kind of music we need more of. The kind of music that'll get a whole pub on its feet clapping and stomping. It's impossible to not sing along to this. I'm definitely an instant fan!
Why do I turn into a ding dang finger poppin bobblehead doll when listening to this band. This tune is mad catchy. Love these cats.
The visual...
"bobblehead doll"
😂
"This too shall pass" got me through treatment, and often hourly since, I was a mess for a long time...
Aug 3rd 1994 AA/NA Birthday, DT's about killed me, but then so have many other things in this life...
GOD Bless you ALL...
PS Life may not get better, but things will change and always do, but when clean and sober, I can remember things now...
Your last statement made me wanna tell you this. I had a good buddy a nam vet named Tim. Lost him 2yrs ago now but he'd been sober since 1981. He said something similar to you "I don't remember the 70s but they say I had a good time?" When I asked him about what made him get sober his answer cracked me up. He said "Well I got up one morning and all I had in the fridge was a box of dog biscuits and dude I didn't even have a dog" hahahaha
17 years ive been throwing them back. 17 more theyll bury me. Ive never felt something so real in my life
HELL YEAH GIVE THEM A FUCKING AWARD THING
MR.GAJEEL REDFOX Yes PLEASE! They deserve it, it's been a long road for Nathaniel & Joseph.
A drink, perhaps?
omg I agree to I love this they disurve an award seriously this is amazing
THIS SOMEHOW EMPOWERS ME AND MAKES ME HAPPY!!!
This song use to hit me hard when I drank. Then I stopped drinking when my daughter was born and I love this song even more. Everyone can turn things around
Rediscovered this song- forgot all about it. Sounds so good!!! What a recording!
im so glad great music artists are still out there somewhere amidst the trash that this world somehow finds in itself to call "music". rock 'n' roll / swing music cant die. thank you so much for existing! I love this!
amen pakachawa
This is so generic why do you think it's on commercials and radio this isn't "great music" it is mediocre at best.
then why are you here?
+porky6884 I was showing my fiancé that the song the Lipton commercial has swear words in it lol I heard it on the radio and thought i had to show her. Since it sounds all gospel but he says bitch a good amount of times.
There are so many good artists out there. Just because they aren't as mainstream doesn't mean that you can't find them, you just have to find the right communities. JD McPherson, Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr., ect....
Just hit 10 years of sobriety 5 weeks ago. It's been the very best days of my life and it just keeps getting better. I'm a Blessed man indeed.
I frigging love this song 😂❤️
Can't believe I've never heard this. THIS is quality stuff. "SONOFABITCH!"
I'm a recovering alcoholic, and this song speaks directly to me at the end of my addiction...powerful stuff!
Hope your keeping up a sober life. It isn't easy but it is so worth it!
I am an alcoholic, would love to stop but am really struggling. And when he says 17 years you can double it...
@@biglummox9862 Nathaniel Rateliff is a recovering alcoholic if he can quit you might be able to. GL I too had the same problem, I quit 40 years ago, need to think one day at a time, Get some help, it's out there.
I love how he gave a nod and a wink to the final scene of the original Blues Brothers movie in how he filmed this.. and the is sound similar as well to Belushi who himself suffered from addiction
I listened the shit out of this song while I was going through my divorce and it helped me get through to the other side. Thank you Night Sweats.
Definitely the most cheerful alcoholic anthem ever! GET ME A DRINK!
SON OF A BITCH!
Everyone needs something to believe in. I believe I'll have another beer.
Actually its about quitting drinking. He says:
Son of a bitch, give me a drink.
One more night, this cant be me.
Son of a bitch, if i cant get clean
I'm gonna drink my life away.
For 17 years I've been throwing them back
17 more will be bury me.
That's definitely about struggling to stay sober.
I can relate. Been sober 17 years. Love this tune, as I do "Freedom" by Shinedown. Definitely a Blues Brothers vibe to it!
blues brothers is exactly what I see here, and I love it
This might be the cheeriest sounding sad song I've ever heard.
semi-charmed life by third eye blind is another one like this
What about pumped up kicks?
Crash and Burn by Thomas Rhett is the same way
It's certainly up there.
"I hate mondays Boomtown Rats
Energy, truth, and pain - all in a song.
This song got me through a divorce under COVID lockdown. I can't even begin to describe the genre to my friends, but all I tell them is it saved me. Sometimes you just need a goddamn drink and a dance to forget the hardest of times.
