Summer Of 69
I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it til my fingers bled
It was the summer of 69
Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jmmy quit and jody got married
I shoulda known we'd never get far
Oh when i look back now - that summer seemed to last forever
And if i had the choice - ya - i'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life
Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive-in
And that's when i met you
Standin' on your mama's porch - you told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand - i knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life - back in the summer of 69
Man we were killin' time - we were young and restless
We needed to unwind - i guess nothin' can last forever
And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when i play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong
Standin' on your mama's porch - you told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand - i knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life - back in the summer of 69

Yes, good memories indeed. I had married my girlfriend in summer 69. Thanks for this song Bryan Adams ! ❤
When I hear this song, memories of my youth flood my brain. I was 18 years old in 1969.
too bad this song is not actually about the year of 69 so much as it is about the "69" position...

I absolutely LOVE this song!!! It’s such a classic. Seeing people enjoy this song as much as I do makes me feel so good for some reason. Absolutely one of the best rock songs ever created!!!
I love when it randomly comes on during a night at the pub and hearing people simultaneously yelling out the lyrics!
I turned 21 not long ago and i dont go out to bars much yet, but i hope to more often just for sweet human interactions like that. Singing drunks are good drunks 😂 @@andrewburgemeister6684

It is possible. I feel a evening walk in the Woods with dunlight or a lattice climbing on a tall steeltower during sunset when i hear this song.
The song is shallow, full of cliches, a bit silly, and perfect. I say this as a compliment. When I can throw all the criticisms that are easy to throw at a work and I still like it there's a very odd magic involved.

It doesn't get more classic than this from Bryan Adams. Always goes down a storm when performed live.
First time I heard the song and came across Bryan Adams was when he was the main musical act at the 2015 AFL Grand Final, compared to other Grand Finals where the musical acts ranged from average to awful (2011 was infamous for Meatloaf) he tore the stadium down with how awesome he was, I remember it was a warm spring day and enjoying a couple of cold ones watching him and the game!

I don’t think people these days realize how effin’ cool Bryan Adams is. Rugged, honest, great music, the whole package. I blasted “Run To You” with my windows down and every vehicle at red lights gave me a nod or thumbs up. I’ve never met Bryan but being a drummer myself, I appreciate the arrangements of most of his songs. He’s the man.

I’m 45 years old and I love that this song reaches into the hearts of so many people. Because everyone has their own “Summer Of ‘69”. Rock and roll everybody!
U weren't even born. My parents were 5 years old and are now almost 60!
@@honeyrose7663 I meant it in a rhetorical way. Merry Christmas. You’re welcome.
@@honeyrose7663 The song isn't about the year. Listen to the very last line of the song, he says me and my baby in a 69....
@@account4info Look up the lyrics: it says "Me and my baby in '69".
@@paulgharett4727 Look at the interviews he has done about it, here is a quote from one
"Adams’s clean-living image has helped disguise one of the most blatant innuendos of modern rock: the ‘69’ in question doesn’t refer to the year 1969, but to the sexual position. Adams has announced as much from the stage, and even appears to sing ‘me and my baby in a 69’ during the song’s outro."
“The song is a bit autobiographical,” Adams explains, “but it’s really about summer love and, in my, case being a musician. I love the song Night Moves by Bob Seger, which is about getting laid in the summer, and I always wanted to write an answer to that. There is a huge misconception that this song is about 1969, but it’s not. The reason I chose 69 is because of the sexual position.

This makes me happy and sad at the same time, a nostalgia when you know those days will never happen again, or perhaps you never even had them.

I loved this song before I ever heard it. I remember buying the Reckless album when it came out. Not hearing all the songs yet, I was reading the titles to all the song and came across this one. Summer of '69. I knew it had to be great. Almost 40 years later, it still holds up. My favorite from Bryan, and one of my favorites by anyone.
Oh man! This is the best version, such powerful arrangement with great drum beat. I just want more of these classic versions, it just fit in with modern rock

Classic song we've all heard a millions times. I had to revisit after watching Warren Huart just to listen to that synth part that comes in. Very subtle but it does add the modern day sound correlating to the lyrics, "and now the times are changing.." Bob Clearmountain is a great producer.

Man, the re-recorded vocals on these songs are sick!
It’s pitch corrected (auto tuned), the originals aren’t, you can hear the vocal flaws in the original that aren’t here. Which is why musically this is the better version.
@@D5301 He has improved his singing technique compared to the mid-80's. He's not wrecking his voice anymore.
The “me and my baby love to 69” at the end was edited out, and I’ve certainly never heard this outro before.
Looked into it a little further. Adams re-recorded many of his classic hits (hence the title, “Classic”.), because of a dispute with his now-former record label. Universal Music Group wouldn’t release his master recordings, so he went back and re-recorded them. Similar to something that happened with Taylor Swift. Now each artist owns the original masters to their hits.
