Big Freddie fan. I’m also 40 and heard all the Memphis rap first time. In my early 20s I tried to do similar stuff, not exactly the same but over-the-top, comically gangster lyrics, southern style beats despite being a middle class white kid. At that point people generally thought if you were a white kid doing that you were sincerely trying to appear gangster and that you were a joke no matter the context, it was all about being “real”. I genuinely find it fascinating how there has been such a step change - I guess it’s mainly due to the fact that Freddie’s music is really good (mine wasn’t near that level) and I suppose we’ve had a solid generation of white kids who’ve been exposed to rap now so there is much less reliance on having people obsessed with figuring out what’s real or what’s fake. Thoughts and observations appreciated!
I really want to ask freddie about the type of Death Metal he said he was into (in a different podcast) , like which bands, how underground he got into, about some one the culture, snd maybe how it's influenced his music.
dang honestly wish we asked him, would’ve loved to get into the genres he listens to :/
