  • I love how adding simple Skinner Blends that fade to black can really make a pattern pop. I show you how to make this cane from scratch, plus how to make use of small cane lengths to re-energise them too. This is a step by step tutorial, so sit back and relax, as I show you how I do it.

    Oh Fiona this is fantastic! I’m so excited about doing this with some of my leftover canes! That last one you did with the two curves is my absolute fav! Thank you so much for more of your great teaching. 🥳🥳🥳❤️❤️❤️🌟🌟🌟🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍

    You have such a lovely soothing voice, I end up having to watch your vids 2 and 3 times, because I always fall asleep listening to you. The closest I can say you remind me of, is Bob Ross. The same thing used to happen with me when I was young, watching his show... I don;t think I have ever seen a single episode start to finish, because by the time the finish came, I was asleep, lol.

      What a lovley comment, thank you so much, and you will definitley get there, all it takes is practice and time. But, as always, the most important thing is to relax and enjoy the process. :)

    This is my third time watching this tutorial and every time I watch it, I get more information and clarity about cane "wrangling". The re-shaping of canes is especially useful and I think I shall be practicing with scrap clay just to get comfortable with the process. Thank you so much Fiona, for uploading tutorials packed with valuable instruction and inspiration.

    Lovely designs and your "fade to black" technique gives a great 3D effect with its shadows. We can always rely on you to show the same cane in different colourways which is enormously appreciated considering the effort involved in reducing all those extra canes. Looking forward very much to seeing how you'll use these veneers next year :)

      I would definitely think so, but I would be less random about the placings. It's often useful to hold up a small mirror to one side of canes you are planning to put together before you press them in, to see how the image would repeat :) Thanks Marjolaine :)

    As with all your tutorials, I love this one! But - I am having a hard time keeping up with you! I am dying to try the last three tutorials but, I am working on the Etsy Christmas bauble tutorial as well as getting ready for Christmas and much to my dismay don't have enough time to play with clay. This cane has given me the courage to try my own configurations since the main elements are the fade to black blends and a cane of my choice. Thanks for all your inspiration ! Have a Happy Christmas and joyous New Year!

    Curious, when you are making these canes, do you ever either write it down or videotape it so you know for next time how you went about it or do you just have a good enough memory to remember? By the way spectacular work as always!

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  Před 8 měsíci +1

      It depends what I am doing 😉 For these ones I like to make it up for each one, juts to see the different outcomes. If I am doing an actual cane video where I am looking for a specific design, then I start with a drawing and work from there, and if I am lucky to get a good design when I am just experimenting, then yes, I will grab a quick image so I can remember and replicate it. So a good mixture of all 3. I hope that helps, thanks so much 🙂

    How do you store your patterned pieces?

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  Před rokem

      I store them flat, in A4 boxes that don't react to polymer clay, and with deli wrap sheets between each layer of patterns. I hope that helps 🙂
