I remember sobbing when my 18yr old daughter moved out a few months after high school graduation. I KNEW she wasn’t ready to take on life and still had a lot to learn. She moved out & married a 22yr old who had 2 kids. It broke my heart. She essentially lost nearly 9 years of her life because of this, and just left him & moved back home in May 2021. She’s just now taking steps to go to college and get her life on track and to live the life she used to dream of.
Honestly, I did the SAME THING at 18, but had a son 2yrs into my marriage and that woke me up. The abuse that I was willing to endure myself wasn’t something I would allow my child to endure, so I left, got a divorce with a permanent restraining order and put myself through college as a single mom. I’m afraid that I may have been the negative influence that causes her to follow in my footsteps.
I don’t think that’s true, but I do know you are and we’re the guiding force for her to wake up out of that nightmare and know she deserved better for her life!! Give yourself a break for not being perfect … no such thing as perfect parents or perfect kids , which makes us perfect together! Continue to grow and show her the way to overcome life situations!! Parents today want to be their children’s best friends instead of their parents. Everyone makes mistakes and no one hands you a how-to parent manual. Having said that, it appears the kids raised themselves, like so many other children these days. Mommy was too busy having affairs with other men and Daddy was too busy with a mistress called “work” making movies. Absent parents show love with physical things to make up for the emotional holes they leave. This one is just another example of parents not putting their children first in a life with no boundaries. I wish them all well. These kid’s kids will likely be parented the same way unless they get help beforehand.
