  • This is how to prune a watermelon plant for faster production. better production overall..
Watermelon plants grow many side shoots that are located between the main stem and the leaf. just like a tomato or a cucumber plant watermelon grows side shoots..
I recommend to remove at least 1 to 2 ft off side shoots side suits. could grow up to 6 ft long and take over your garden. take off too much space and too much time..
This is the best way to grow your watermelon plant at home..

Your videos are so on point.
I just trimmed some suckers from all my melons. Appreciate the confirmation that I didn’t do something stupid (this time). 😂❤❤❤❤❤

Lol you did good.. Pruning off some of the side shoots. Help so much.. You get a faster production, a better ear flow, and a healthier plant overall... And thank you ... happy gardening 🌱

Are you serious? I've never heard of that for watermelon! 🤦‍♀️ I had 3 plants take over a 4x50 bed - gorgeous lush green leaves. 4 damn melons. 😑 again... never heard of suckers on watermelon! Ugh! I'm going to trim my vines tomorrow - thank you! 🙏

Oh I definitely highly recommend the trim out some of the suckers. I do it every year... Don't be afraid the watermelon plant as it grow it will grow many more suckers...

What about if U don't have a lot of space & want 7 watermelons from 1, plant? How do U prune, it?

One Watermelon Vine could produce sometimes up to 2 to 4 melons depending on the variety And sometimes some Vine will only produce male flowers. So it's very tricky in this situation.. I would remove about two to three lower leaves and remove about two to 3 ft of side shoots and leave the rest to grow ..
and if you could grow it vertically to save space would be good. Just have to make sure you secure your watermelon and tie the plant properly as it grows upward..

1 more, question. How can I make my Watermelon bigger or is it 2, late? They'r like the size of about a softball & already yellowish & still very, hollow. I would like 2 know even though they still might not be any good because where I had planted them the neighborhood cats scratched them out of place & when I thought they were going 2 be no, more. They suddenly appeared at a totally different, spot. 😅.

How many watermelons will grow from just one vine if I prune off the side shoots?

Maybe 1 to 3 ... I noticed last year that not all of my side shoots produce watermelon . Some of them produce just a lot of male flowers..
If you have a longer garden season you could let it grow, especially if you have space in your garden..
If you have a short garden season I would definitely prune off 2 side shoots..
The plant will produce many more
