I Brownie - No, their statement and their website were not vetted by the palace before being released. It was just sprung on them. That is why this is shocking, at least to the British. It was a flagrant breach of royal protocol. A knowledge that the couple were wanting some kind of change doesn’t count for anything. By going public on their own, the Sussexes are trying to control the arrangement, but as royals they can’t do that. A better way to have handled it would have been to simply announce that they were surrendering their royal titles and all royal prerogatives in order to live as private citizens. Even such a statement should have sent to the Queen well in advance of the announcement as a courtesy. Harry should have known better.

I am not surprised and could see this coming. I think it will turn out to be in the best interests for all concerned, if Harry and Megan do step down from senior roles in the royal family and have a chance to become more independent etc in their lives and financially.
Non of us in life have a choice in life as regards what circumstances we are born into, but it is a Democratic right for every human being to be able to make efforts to change their lives, chose their own future etc. Couples have a right to chose their own way of life, without needing to get permission from anyone or hierarchy, and do not need to work out their private life or discuss it with Family etc. However, maybe it would have been more sensitive and considerate towards the queen to go about things in a more considerate way. To give her time to process her obvious distress she would have been experiencing when they, Harry and Megan first entered discussions with her about it, as they had had, and not expect her majesty to be so soon prepared to accept their decisions etc. A minimum of at least two years notice to step down etc is not unreasonable amount of time to give the queen, so that she has the proper time needed to prepare for their departure etc to ensure the smooth running of the many duties the monarchy has to carry out. But at the same time one has no way of knowing to what extreme it became very unbearable for Harry and Megan to continue to carry on with duties as senior royals enduring unacceptable media coverage of a draconian kind. It is natural for Harry to consider his wife's well being above all else and son, and as his immediate family. So one can't really be judgemental of their actions. We dot know what its like to walk in their shoes. As I feel that basically Harry and Megan are kind caring considerate people normally, what they may have been suffering has to be so acute, severe, unbearable to cause them to eventually to take the actions they have taken, and maybe force the issue to get out of the situation they in quicker. In all fairness they have tried to cope for nearly two years before it just became too much. So I would not blame Megan and Harry for not letting the Queen arrange a time and date for the palace to make a public announcement, but rather certain media that made their lives a hell beyond endurance to cope, where they just were unable to wait much longer to let the queen decide when the news could be told. Its sad.

The couple should do what is best for their (immediate) family. However, I hope the British media feels ashamed for their role in the dissension and disrespectful reporting, bordering immoral, that led to this. I think Great Britain as a whole needs to keep their media more in check, as we need to hold many of our sources in the U.S. to a higher standard as well.
The “Royal Family” needs to get real. Reasonable expectations of family members is needed for any happy family. This couple wants a different life. They are often treated & expected to act as objects.They have their own interest, feelings & their own voice. How many of us would tolerate having to have the family “ok” before making announcements about life decisions. You cannot & should not try to buy someone’s dignity, privacy, freedom & independence. The Royals perform public service. Public Service does not equate to oppression. It should not mean there are no limits on access to their private life, & they are not obligated to be abused in the media. Shame on anyone that thinks they have a right to that because they pay taxes. That is not for sale. It is cruel to try, more cruel to expect it. Even if you paid for it, you are not entitled to it. Rights cannot be sold or purchased.

Family quarrel is normal. The reason they moved out of Kensington is because they want some privacy and private space and doesn't necessarily mean a family fall out. Secondly, why would Kate feel upset about Meghan's treatment of Charlotte's dress on her wedding day?! It's silly and stupid and just show her (Kate's) immaturity in dealing with trivial things! As a senior member, she should relent on Meghan's big day! Thirdly, do you think the royalties have it easy and just live off your tax money for free?! Royal duties are really taxing and the royal family are people too! I dare you to take up their routines and surely you too will gripe a lot and become grumpy! They need a break, and besides, it's not like Meghan and Harry are backing away from their commitment but just wanted to take it easy since they have a son to take care of too. It's easy to condemn and criticize when laypeople like you who only see the royal family from afar and don't actually have to deal with everyday onslaught by the press and media as well as the public at large! It's hard being a royal because everything you do are subject to scrutiny! It becomes even harder when they have to put up a front! So, have a heart and cut them some slack! On another note, Meghan looked much more beautiful and younger than Kate despite of the former being about a year older than the latter; I feel that Meghan is more pleasant to look at than Kate who seemed grumpy and have wrinkles all over her face!

what life would be like, having little or no personal time to oneself. Receiving
a schedule of must attend events each morning stretching well into the next six
months or so, told what garments are acceptable for evening or recreational
wear, what social events are acceptable to attend, what sort of company is satisfactory
to be seen in, and of course, one must watch ones public language, that’s
acceptable to be heard by others and what is not, so, life as a ‘royal’ can be soft
and cushiony, but most restraining, in short, not fun.

A royal photographer in about his seventies looked like he was going to cry because Great Britain was losing Harry! Get a grip, grandpa, it's their lives and they can take their talents and charitable hearts anywhere in the world. He kept talking about how traumatic it was that Harry won't be doing his wonderful work in the UK. There are needy people in every country in the world.
