- Hey guys, i'm happy to invite my friend Guillaume Latil again on the channel. Guillaume is a great cello player that i met on the gypsy jazz scene a few years ago. I invited him already last year on an uptempo swing AS#160 I love you ( • AS160 Guest Guillaume ... ).
Today we've decided to play this wonderful balad from Sydney Bechet called "Si tu vois ma mère" (1952). We've decided to transpose the song in the key of G to benefit some open strings on our respective instruments.
I'm playing a 1954 Levin Deluxe strung with Martin bronze strings gauge 12. I'm using a Dunlop .71 and the sound is captured on the guitar by a Dpa 4099g, on the cello by a Schoeps CCM4 microphone and in the room by a Neumann TLM 103.

Wow! This is the best jazz cellist I've ever heard. So often jazz cellists try to do everything in thumb position and the intonation is wonky at best. Guillaume uses the entire range of the cello, which if done properly, allows for covering the entire range of all the saxophones (bari, tenor, alt & soprano). Amplified cello is sadly a disaster, however in this acoustic setting you hear the entire richness of this glorious instrument. Chapeau!

Gosh ! The cello 🤩 We don’t see cello enough in jazz. I’d love to try cello, but it’s tuned in fifth right ? I can’t change my 4th tuned world… Thanks for sharing your passion

@@greekflatpicker ahahah close enough ! i think the only 19 inches are the Stromberg Master 400 (and master 300). Then the Levin Deluxe and Epiphone emperor both at 18,5inches. Then Super 400 and D'angelico New Yorker at 18 inches
