    yes Korbin they got ATM in India and YES your US card will work if it don't work call the call collect number in back of your ATM card and they will let you have access to anything. Also its good idea to let your bank know that you are travelling there so they can de activate fraud alert in advance.

    chase is not in India. You have currency exchange places almost everywhere. If you have a forex or multi currency card , you can draw cash from any atm. Then come to India and get the dollars exchanged for rupees at a local money exchange. They give you much better rates. Airport and hotel rates are much lower, as they keep much higher margins. Money exchange rates are generally interbank rates plus 2-3 percent margin. Airports will charge at least 10% or more as margin.

    There are lot of ATMs your Forex or international card will work. Also you get everything like Wetwipes in supermarkets and even regular stores. Probably for lot less cheaper then what you get in states.

    The USD to INR Exchange rate is over 70, not 59 (it is 73 today). The exchange of 59 is probably what Rick got at the international airport exchange counters, as they take 15 percent commission plus some additional charges. Never exchange at any Indian airport as their charges are outrageous (and converting back any leftover rupees to dollar when returning, they will take another 15 percent plus some charges). Generally at the ATM at the airports , you can use your foreign debit card, and there you get rate close to official market rate. I usually arrive at Mumbai airport, and in the arrival area before the baggage claim, there is a SBI (State Bank of India) ATM, Where i can use my foreign bank debit card, and if I remember correctly, the rate was about one percent different than the market rate (including any bank charges).That means that when exchanging 1000 dollars, the airport exchange counter would give you 59000 rupees while an ATM will give you about 69000 rupees, that is additional 10,000 rupees.

  • @riasha_das
    @riasha_das Před 4 lety

    Important information- try to use uber instead of local taxis as they generally tend to charge unfair rates incase the passenger is a foreigner and yes we have ATMs in every street in Kolkata but not all function as to provide for currency exchange as you might be needing. Keep cash handy for street shopping(in case), street food (in case) and travel. Also that's not a geyser Rick🤦🏻‍♀️geyser is the water heater.
