    People who work at Renaissance Faires have these Tents, mostly the Piveeters or Pirates have these. I do this work, I do Elizabethan Renaissance and I am working on Victorian. And I got a cousin who does Civil War. Its more fun to be involved in these things than to observe. And I love it.

I'll bet if Washington was here today he would be like "holey smokes you ladies gorgeous in them dresses"..lol. Inerways it's nice to see you guys are trying to give a idea how things were that time during the revolutionary war. Cuz nowadays hardly any body knows how to cook food on open fire. But some of what technology they had looks awesome especially with the horse hair lazer thing.

    My Dad was big time into the history of the American Civil War and the Revolutionary War. When I was little we all had period appropriate costumes for each war. In Somerset County Pennsylvania they hold something called Mountain Craft Days. That is very simular to this. As for the Civil War. My Dad was part of the 3rd US Infrantry that was run by Charlie Smithgaul of Lancaster Pa. They would shoot Civil War Canon's in competition using live rounds shot at targets. Sadly my Dad passed in 2011 and Charlie passed away last year. So I'm not sure what will become of the 3rd US Infrantry.

    How does one get into this sort of thing? My interest in American history, particularly this time period, is fairly new and I don't know where to start. But I'm just fascinated with this period in time and these reenactors are so passionate about it!

    • @eutytoalba
      @eutytoalba Před rokem

      IMO, the gateway is learning how to sew historical costume, and then looking up social events to wear them at through museums, ie. maritime and preserved famous locations, restoration grand openings such as those of the Big Boy steam trains, and even popculture conventions such as Steampunk. Steampunk conventions are great for entry-level IMO because they're casual and full-on fancy-free regarding period accuracy. All such resources as these doubtless have social-media profiles such as Twitter & Facebook, and half the time even their own webdomains. But if all else fails, just start something up, such as busking in costume, and let people find you. Talk Like a Pirate Day is the perfect popularly-acceptable excuse to strut 18th Century costume around at random in a crowd like it's what you wear every day. (What has this free country come to when we need social excuses to wear anything but unimaginative street clothes and approved-Counterculture crap like all-black!)
