    So inspiring to see someone as unintelligent as Ari make it so far. Someone needs to bust him. We're living like dinosaurs because of him!

    This arrogant man could not handle Joshua Topolsky's analogy... he answered back like a jerk and seems very unprofessional. The internet has changed the way we access media.. get with the times and deal with it

    Can't believe some of the things Ari Emanuel said. Joshua Topolsky's arguments were valid in my opinion.

    A Terribly arrogant individual. The fact that he couldn't understand the relevance of that first guy's question is disconcerting. Clearly he is desperately attempting to grasp onto an unsustainable industry by presenting the new model of entertainment as "the glen beck model" (to make content created solely for the internet off-putting).

    Ari's example of Game of Thrones doesn't make any sense. Say it costs 6 million an episode (really expensive TV), they only need 2 bucks from 3 million people each episode to get it made? According to various sources viewers for the show are 2-3 million per episode, just in the US, not counting any piracy. I just don't see funding the creation of a show like that being any problem whatsoever and then it could be released for free to hook in more people that would pay to create more episodes.

  • @JackMarch
    @JackMarch Před 10 lety +2

    Josh's example was pretty bad, they do filter stuff, so they could filter piracy. But Ari doesn't seem to understand that people have ways of getting around things, in the UK we have kickasstorrents and the pirate bay blocked, we just use a proxy to get round them, you can't do ANYTHING about piracy unless you literally destroy internet freedom by making proxies, etc illegal, and freedom is much more important than stopping piracy.

    The Wall Street Journal vetted this before uploading.. Ari keeps shouting at Josh on his way back to his seat, then asks where he works. This is a man who thinks threatening people is a good way to engage in a debate? He is an awful human. And to answer his question, Yes, child porn is worse than torrenting a Larry David show.

  • @tobrieper
    @tobrieper Před 12 lety +1

    Im surprised hosts havent done anything about Topolskys question - his analogy was much more fitting than "child pornography" one and we werent given coherent answer at all.. Btw. who are those people in audience - I would expect support from professionals who actually have some kind of idea about how internet works.

    I wonder if Ari even bothered trying to find out. He's just saying: "The economics aren't there.", but I don't see Netflix going down the drain due to a problem with economics. Even if they were, I'd still argue, that might be because Netflix is only available in UK&US - Which is a very small amount of people connected to the Internet.

  • @WalTxAaroN
    @WalTxAaroN Před 12 lety

    The fact of the matter is that Ari wants someone else to come up with the financial scenario where everyone working in Hollywood will continue to make the same amount of money (preferably more), but everything else will change.
    It is just as naive as thinking you don't have to change at all. He wants to selectively change parts of his industry to give the consumers what they want without changing the actual model for making TV and Movies. It ain't gonna happen Ari. Embrace it.

  • @nizonion
    @nizonion Před 12 lety

    That's not an argument for not streaming themselves. It shows that streaming online is a profitable business - and if they took the time and made a proper model (HBO has ALMOST got it - if only it didn't require a subscription to their cable in the first place, I'd buy it, and I'm sure a lot of others would too), they'd make a load of cash - getting content out first, getting the best content etc. Plus they could *FINALLY* go fully digital when recordin, which would also save them a ton of cash.

    Watching this today to laugh at how wrong Ari Emanuel was on just about everything.
    Even a lot of the commenters didn't have a clue. It's so easy to stream content for free. Only fools and old people pay for it now. Artists make money by performing live shows. Their albums are only there to promote their live shows. The death of the big music companies has opened up opportunities for bands without "representation" to get recognized by a wider audience. Instead of a small number of bands being managed by the large record labels that took most of the profits, there are thousands of bands managing themselves and getting a larger cut of the profits.

  • @nizonion
    @nizonion Před 12 lety

    That's assuming 2 - 3 million costumers. What if the number was *a lot* higher (say 50 million)? Then you'd have a billion dollars per month. And this is possible just in the U.S.. Europe has a lot more potential costumers.

    Mate, don't worry about it. If they're incompetent they'll get replaced. Their shareholders will demand new moguls, the companies which adapt and deliver effectively will profit like fuck. It's all a natural process.

  • @mellamohonas
    @mellamohonas Před 12 lety

    He needs to understand the thing that he's attacking. He needs to have a viable solution to propose rather than saying "well, things aren't perfect. Make them perfect."
    "If you could figure out that model with us..." Nope. That's YOUR job. The market is dictating that we want à la carte via piracy. Either YOU and the media industry ATTEMPT to give the market what it wants, or you continue to lose money. It's simple economics.

    This is all fine to make profits on the entertainment business, but how much does music or TV shows, or movies actually cost without all the useless middlemen like Ari taking over 50% of the costs in production? Meanwhile, all the staff at production get very little. When you cut out all the middlemen, the economics begin to make sense to use other means of distribution.

    What Josh said wasn't a perfect comparison but Ari has no idea. Hard to believe this guy is a deal maker...I have never heard him say one remotely intelligent thing about Hollywood going forward. The reality of it is while tv and movies are expanding, this expansion has basically commoditized them. This means they are actually worth less to the viewer. When you have 4 or 5 CSI's, that is a commoditized show. It is worth less to us but they want to keep making the same amount of money.

    There are 100,000 times more people who want a free and open interenet than there are who want a closed (tv-like) interenet. This number is growing.
    Ari is growing more out of touch as every new day dawns. he is blinded by the closed world he lives in. Walt is correct "It's not IF but WHEN". Suck it up Ari, you're business model is DYING for reals.

    Let's call this next segment "How little Ari Emanuel knows about the internet"...
    Justin Bieber has the highest viewed video (of all time) on CZcams with over 700M views. The generated income stream from being a YT partner on that video alone is nearly $15M.
    Is Ari (as he states) "I might be naive" or is he just plain ignorant?

  • @thisistheendpt2
    @thisistheendpt2 Před 12 lety

    Ari doesn't know the answer to the question because he's never contemplated anything past the end of his nose (no offense intended).
    Imagine Steve Jobs saying something like that to the world. But he wouldn't as he'd have already thought 10-20 yrs down the track. Ari... retire and let someone who has a clue take your spot as you are dead weight.

  • @thisistheendpt2
    @thisistheendpt2 Před 12 lety

    It's the same with his idea to create a facebook funding process where a fan pays the production costs and in return they get to see the script and the storyboard...
    Is he brain damaged? I can get a hold of both those things for free and months before release date. It's the same business model but instead of suckering a handful of investors for the star up he's suckering a million small time investors for it. Same business model = same outcome. No creativity. No vision.

    You know the guy with the beard (second to the last guy who talked). I kindof have to disagree with what he said because entertainment companies (i think dont think) google, apple, Microsoft want these companies to keep there content safe. They just dont like how tgese companies directly contributed to the content being able to be stolen. Its just like people who make fake keys for different reasons. Tech companies did make the technology to be able to esally steal content that is copyright protected. I think these tech companies should help stop this from happening cause well where does it happen? On the computer (very rarely anywhere else). Theres no argument against that.

  • @MelvinSF

    To make someone look like a clown without actually refuting anything he said - that's pitiful.
    Keep spouting nonsense and fallacies, Ari. It's fine as long as you you say "I appreciate this" every now and then.

    "i dont know the answer to your question", and thats why you shouldnt be in that place of power. this is napster all over again, its like he doesnt even understand supply and demand. there is demand for movies at a low price, we don't care about your second mansion, your 5 porshes, your plastic surgery and your expensive holidays. we want films and content at a low price, if you don't give it to us then someone else will. thats what happened to the music industry.

    My reaction is to say that this man lacks knowledge about the basic workings of the internet, and takes his "news" from the headlines. After hearing a vehement defense, in which he never listened to the other person, I have to say my gut is right. Ari intentionally links child pornography with piracy, which is slanderous.
    He says the big internet companies need to police for his content. That's be great, if policing was free. Perhaps Ari should pony up the money if he wants the service...
