  • Cleveland's Public Square in 1908 was the bustling center of the Forest City. The post-Civil War boom lead to massive economic development in and around downtown Cleveland. The new federal post office and customs house (now known as the Howard M. Metzenbaum U.S. Courthouse) is seen under construction to the left. Crowds gather in front of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument and around the circular pond where nearby pavilions shelter people from the elements as they wait for the streetcar to arrive. This panorama comes from Cleveland Public Library. The photographer is unknown.
