Hey Good Morning! Yes I saw the typo!
i guess I am quite off topic but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
lol my dad has always called them cheater bars. We use the handle on our 4ton jack
Late to the party but hey this is what youtube is for, found this video in a time of need, now I know it'll get done right. For everyone who has been saying this or that way would be better, or to use an impact/add and axle etc...well that's not always an option. I appreciate the video being done "the hard way" because it shows you can do it and should if you have no other choice. And appreciate the honesty with trailer overloading as well because my family often has no choice but to overload, can't afford any other way. It's nice to see how long things can last even when overloaded and how many many years of use you can get. Thanks for the video, it's greatly appreciated
There's no need to take the leaf springs off. Just take the nuts off the u bolts.
Unless you're replacing springs as well.
If just the axel, cut the shackle bolts and slide a new axle on and re shackle and done
Everybody saying should have done this, should have done that. blah blah blah. Chuck, you made a fine video using the tools you had on hand. Good work my friend.
What are the chances I have a similar issue. Your video pops up and it’s the same exact trailer! Haha
Thanks you don’t know it but you just made my life a lot easier!
Even with trailer tires I still do the star tighting of the lug nuts
Great viedos on drains and now how to replace trailer axles. Keep em coming Chuck.
Very informative! Thank you!
See ya down the road Chuck!!! Great information!!!
Awesome video, really good explanation.
Thank you!!
Thanks for this video man ,
Cheers .
I really appreciate your video.....thank you
I learned you can use a 4 way like that. Thanks chuck
Thank u for the share
Thanks! Super helpful! (go Tarheels!)
Great video Chuck but you could have been done in half the time if you had an impact gun. Just run to Lowe's and pick a Craftsman one up as it will use the same battery as your drill. :)
I sure thought the same thing. I would hate to have done that job with just a ratchet and cheater bars
For those types of loads could have added brakes axle
Nice job, you definitely could of used an impact would of helped a lot.
It's been 2 years ago but I hope by now you've invested in an impact gun. Great video though. ✨️
wish more time was shown on putting the springs on and taking them off
Great video 👍 I got a question though, when you attach the leaf springs to the new axle how do you know where exactly to bolt it down to the leaf spring so that it’s exactly the same on the other side? Because isn’t it supposed to be exact on both sides or else the alignment of both wheels will be off?? Do you measure the exact middle of the leaf spring and that’s where you bolt it down to get it exact??
I believe there is usually a bolt through the middle of the leaf that sits in a hole in the bracket that connects the axle to the leaf.
Stay hydrated folks. ; )
Please I am interested in this replacing of axle
Why remove the leaf springs
Cutoff wheels on a grinder would zip that right off!!!!! Lol
Why did you remove the leaf springs
How long to remove this?
Can someone start a gofund me to get this guy impact tools?
You should never turn the spring shackle bolts. Remove the nut and drive out the bolt until the knurled part of the bolt is clear of the spring hanger. Replace bushings in the springs and lubricate. Nuts should be self-locking. Snug down nuts and back off about ¼ of a turn. You want a little play in the shackles. Shackle bolts are special bolts. Only use an ordinary bolt for an emergency repair.
exactly. those bolts are designed to not rotate and by making them rotate you wear out the knurling.
If I ever need to do this I’m getting a new trailer
Question then a comment:. 1) could you not simply loosened the shackles and rotated the axle opposite side of the bend and keep going in a pinch?
Comment: you could have just removed the shackles and save yourself all that time and work,.maybe modify the trailer and install double axles if you're going to load it with so much overweight., and I would have put the axle under the leaf springs. Less strain on the shackles and extra undercarriage clearance.
Couldn't you have just removed the axle without having to remove the springs if you're going to reuse them?
Yes
if you are replacing an axel you might as well replace all the bushings which get worn out after all those years. The bushing in all those joints need to be replaced and ideally with brass or copper ones.
That was my question too, trailer only two years old but bearing rubbed spindle, welded on spindle so easier to replace Axel
Looks to me like your trailer needs at least a 7000 lb axel if you say you put 5 tons 11 000lb into your trailer you really need a tandem 5200lb axels on that thing. Or a 9000 lb axel with 16 ply tires.
Should have bought new leaf springs
Man get a 3/4in drive milwaukee impact and a set of impact sockets. Its a life changer
take off nut first..then knock out bolt
Not a torque wrench to be seen.
You put that much weight on it without brakes?????? Smh
Spray some WD40 and an impact would have saved you time and less work
Overall this is a good video. But I don't understand why anyone would overload a trailer that much. Forget the costs of breaking stuff. It's not safe. In the long run, it doesn't really save that much money either.
Apple Drains..how you doing my friend im from minnesota i got a question for you...i got small utility trailer 8x5 but the trailer i got she got small tires can you tell me what zise of AXLE I NEED TO PUT LITTLE BIT BIG TIRES
