Valdresflye is a mountain plateau ("fly" means open plain or level area in the mountains), at the eastern edge of Jotunheimen. Some of the well known summits such as Besseggen can be seen left hand.

This stretch of road is awesome. The combination of stunning views, light traffic (unless you go there in the summer) and fun curves and long stretches makes for a great trip. Keep in mind however that the speed limit is only 80 km/h 😌

Your video is missing 90% of the Valdresflyet. The actual Valdresflyet Road begins at Bygdin which we see only at 5:00, as it was we built in two stretches. I had to do lot of digging for my video and asked a couple of sources in the historic road scene in Norway to actually find some useful information about the road since nothing deeper could be found online. You can see the video here:

Nice video, but it's actually called Valdresflya, and it's in north-eastern part of the country, not central south.

According to Norwegian Wikipedia there are at least 3 spellings for Valdresflye/a/i. I wouldn't call it the northeast though, it's not Finnmark or even Trøndelag.

"Valdresflye" among locals. Valdres is the district in the central uplands, "fly" is a high plateau, the last vowel is the definite article.

@@EuropeanRoads Valdresflya is how you say it in the east of norway, valdresflyi is probably the own valdres dialect. Beitostølen is located in southern norway, but in the upper side of the southern region (i'm norwegian). .Beitøstølen is located or close to Jotunheimen, which is also called the heart of Norway.
Fun fact: There used to be a fenced off area with rain deers on the right side of the road next to Bitihorn. Last time I was up thre was around 1995/96 tho.
