Eric Clapton has done 2 versions of "Layla" over the years. One faster rock version when he was with Derek &The Dominos & this slowed down version. Both are great!
Clapton and Steve Winwood doing "Can't Find My Way Home" live from the Crossroads Festival is sublime and an iconic moment in rock history. I know you and your viewers would love it.
I have the DVD.
This song is about his former wife, Patti Boyd, who at one time was married to George Harrison. Eric and George were best friends when he fell in love with her. He also wrote, "Wonderful Tonight" for her and George wrote, "Something" for her while with The Beatles.
This was his appearance on the MTV series Unplugged. Each episode a different artist, known for their electronically amplified work, was invited to do acoustic versions of their hits. The cd of Clapton's performance sold 26 million copies, and became the best selling live album of all time, at least up until then, not sure if it's ever been surpassed.
I think that this is the MTV unplugged, and before he started playing ,he said "see if you recognize this one", started playing and everyone cheered. He looked surprised, but as he played on, more people realized what he was playing and cheered louder. You might want to watch the whole concert(?) just to see his range
@@r1cha4d Thank you for that, I didn't know that!
Eric Clapton was with Cream, Derek and the Dominos, The Yardbirds, Blindfaith, John Mayall & The Bluesbreak and Dirty Mac
And in the Hall of Fame for Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, the Yardbirds, and his solo career… the only four time inductee
and plays too in a tour with Dire Straits!!
Great reaction Sam and Phil! Two different versions, both fantastic.
Heard and loved this song in 6th grade, my friend loved this song so much, after she graduated college, and married, they named their first daughter Layla, and their second child, a son, they named Eric. So yeah. You two are so good. Love your reactions✌️
Thanks Patti!
Love this version of Layla, great reaction Sam & Phil this was incredible
That's not the MTV version. It's another unplugged version. Thereis slightly differences, but Clapton never play exactly the same at each concert I saw.
Even if there is no video you can hear the MTV version on Clapton's channel. 🤘
this is the rehearsal for the performance btw, the performance is in the album
You guys definitely have to check out the Beatles song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" off of the Beatle's "White Album". The song features Eric Clapton on Lead Guitar. Eric and George Harrison were best friends, and Eric was the only other guitarist ever invited to perform on a Beatles track. I know you guys will dig it!
Peace
While my guitar gently weeps live
With Tim petty and prince. Tribute to George Harrison
I love both versions; it depends on what mood I want to be in. Try "Old Love" from this same unplugged concert. Great song with a killer piano solo.
Old Love is about Patty Boyd too!!
I'm not sure if you know the story of this song...so George Harrison was married to Patti Boyd (who he met during the making of the Beatles film "Hard Days Night" which is PHENOMENAL. SOOOO...he was close friends with Eric, who fell in love with Patti & wrote this song about/for her.
Patti & Eric met up & he played it for her & she ended up leaving George for Eric. Incredibly, George couldn't have acted with more grace. He remained friends with Eric. Later, Patti left Eric due to his horrific addiction to heroin, etc.
George had gone on to marry Olivia, & she continues to keep his memory & music alive along with their son, Dhani.
This is the rehearsal for the Unplugged concert. That's why not as many views. He wears a blue suit during the actual show.
That's what I thought. The riffs aren't the same as the Live version. Yeah this is wasn't as polished as the Live version.
This is why "Layla" is such a popular name . . . . .
Eric Clapton has stated.
He loves the blues.
He did rock and roll to earn a wage. But later on.
And recently.
He's done some fantastic blues work.
And especially with BB king and all the other great guitar and blue singers.. The song Layla.
Was written for one of the Beatles wives.
That he was crushing on and later married.
But then divorced..
I love all of his Unplugged songs. Great guitar player and his voice is 💖.
You may want to give "Forever Man" a listen. It's a short song but really rocks.
Eric has a house and recording studio in Antigua. Me and my mate installed all the solar panels and batteries there. The guys playing keyboards (Chuck) and tambourine (Ray Cooper) were often visitors. You may have seen Ray playing with Elton John last month at Glastonbury. He also plays with the Rolling Stones.
This was just a rehearsal, for a much better version listen to it on his Unplugged album ✌️
This was an incredible concert
You should check out his song Change the World
This is my very favorite version!!! On the Faves Playlist for sure!
This reminds of maybe hom picking up his acoustic and writing the song.
Nice reaction :) He does an entire unplugged concert which is really great and definitely worth checking out. Have you listened to Crossroads by Cream yet? If you haven't, you have one of the greatest guitar solos of all time waiting for you :)
Would HIGHLY recommend 'white room' or 'crossroads' next!!! 😁
This is my favorite version.
Nice acoustic bluesy version and laid back...so easy to listen too!
Another great "unplugged" video on YT is Peter Frampton performing the Blind Faith classic " Can't Find My Way Home". Just him and his acoustic in front of the fireplace.
I'm pretty sure that it was Steve Winwood doing this in front of a crackling fire, but you're right, it is a great one to watch.
@@genov9374 You are absolutely right. Brain cells are getting fewer and fewer.
I actually named my youngest daughter Layla because I loved this song since I was a teenager. This unplugged version particularly. I didn’t care for the faster version.
Can someone explain to me why this version is different than the one on my Eric Clapton unplugged album even though his hair and outfit are the same?
Did he do another recording at the same show? Is this a mock up meant to recreate the real unplugged performance? Either way I think the other version is superior, better intro and solo.
It's the rehearsal.
Please consider reacting to Yer Blues by The Dirty Mac. It's a supergroup including Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell.
Awesome
Now that you have a nice sample of Clapton it's time to move over to a frequent early collaborator of his, Steve Winwood. He started at 12, went pro at about 13, and joined the Spencer Davis Group at 14 ( I'm a Man and Gimme Some Lovin'). He was with Clapton in Blind Faith (Can't Find My Way Home). And he spent several years in Traffic (Dear Mr. Fantasy, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, John Barleycorn Must Die, 40,000 Headmen, Medicated Goo, etc.). Later he was a solo artist (Higher Love, Valerie, and my favorite was Roll With It).
Hey guys I haven't watched the reaction yet, but... There are a couple more titles from "Slow Hand" that you will enjoy, "Lay Down Sally" and "The Core". Also another of his tunes that is REALLY popular in concerts is "Tulsa Time". And, he has shared the stage with many other artists over the years. Most notably in my mind is Sheryl Crow.
Acoustic give the instruments room to breathe and you can hear each musician and what they are contributing. Also, Eric's voice is much cleaner and easy to listen to in this layed-back version. Very stripped down and smoooooth.
2ore versions for you of Layla. With Dr zjohn live and with Winston Marcellis band live.
Love This Version Absolutely Class! Both Are Brilliant! Please! React To Eric Clapton - Bad Love Another Of His Classics!
The video you are watching here is the rehearsal video! with the girls sitting down and in their street clothes.
sam got smooth moves..sweetness
I believe this is a rehearsal.
Some EC songs I think you two would like are "Motherless Children", "Slow Down Linda", "The Shape You're In", "I've Got A Rock 'n' Roll Heart".
great song !!!!
Old Love from this show.
I have both versions of Layla. The original and the unplugged I also have 2 versions of "Creep" the original by the group Radiohead and the acoustic version by ... The Pretenders - Creep (Live At London's Jakob Street Studios 1995)
If you get a chance, react to the entire unplugged album. You won't regret it. Most of the songs are blues covers some originals but it's pretty good. I use to have it all memorized back in the 90s and played by myself.
I believe this is how Eric always intended this song to be - until Duane Allman showed up in the studio with an opening fast riff and history was made.
AND THE UNPLUGS WERE 30 YEARS AGO PHIL AND SAM! 😊SO SO GOOD💯 NEIL YOUNG HAS A SUPER GREAT UNPLUGGED ALSO YOU GUYS JUST SO YOU KNOW, (HARVEST MOON ) WOULD BE A GREAT START! 😊
PLEASE do Duran Duran - "Ordinary World" !
This is NOT the original version from MTV Unplugged...this is before the show!! :p
I get why this doesn’t have that much views than the other one, because this is the rehearsal version before the actual show without the crowd. If you have done the actual live performance WITH the audience you would have gotten even more of the vibe and the crowds reaction as well. But this one is ok too
I don't think there is a recording of the live performance, just the rehearsal version.
Actually there is, but I can only find the audio. Looks like they've taken the original video down. czcams.com/video/1UX1-gL9RjA/video.htmlfeature=shared@@jgates6645
@@jgates6645I don’t know if there’s a video of it, but here’s the audio version: czcams.com/video/iZV7akaSo0s/video.htmlsi=dU87eBvTA1_z0zsC
It really. I’ve seen and listened to the unplugged one and it does not move me like the original!
One word; Duane!@@joelliebler5690
Speaking of the blues, you two should take a listen to Alvin Lee's "The Bluest Blues".
I just learned that this song was inspired by a 500 year old epic Persian poem. Pretty Cool.
👍🏻
Eric and Nirvana's MTV Unplugged albums are the best.Or the best received at least.✌️
You've got to listen to a song Cocaine.
It's actually an anti-drug song.
If you know the story?
Also Eric Clapton and BB King have some great blue songs together.
One tragic aspect of this song is that the co-writer (Jim Gordon) died in prison this past March after being convicted in 1983 for killing his mother while having MAJOR mental health issues.
I enjoy this version much better than the fast rock version.
You're adorable, Sam!!! ❤🌹
My favourite version
Do you know how many thousands of girls name their daughter after this song in the '70s and '80s, My cousin did
if you guys want to see the full Unplugged show here it is: czcams.com/video/vMs2NWU-Zr0/video.htmlsi=9_tSTXSqXUnRdN6n
Good though nothing compares to the original .
I think I actually like the newer version of Layla more. Both are great though. Next? Maybe 'Forever Man' or 'Lay Down Sally'. Both great Clapton tunes. Cheers.
Don't think this was the right version... the one on the album has the audience at the start and it all sounds a lot cleaner, clearer and better produced. Maybe this was a rehearsal or something? I would also expect the actual version to have a ton of views, esp given that this concert is the biggest selling live album of all time!
One of the main reasons that EC keeps playing this song in a variety of contexts is the when he first did it he was not all that good at soloing with it. It is abundantly clear from all recent recordings that this problem has long since faded.

No unfortunately fake accounts impersonating us get created sometimes - we try to remove them as soon as possible
Don't really know why people listen to this version as much as they do - it's okay but the one from the album is so much better and the acoustic version leaves off the whole second half of the song.
Good song but very blue pill
According to every single guitar publication ever Eric Clapton is considered one of the top three guitarist of all time. Pick an order any order, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton these three are picked by every expert in the guitar world with Jeff Beck being number one. The most overrated guitar player is slash😊
True story, when Jimi Hendrix was just starting out Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney went to go see him in a club. Hendricks, who love to use the whammy bar was going crazy. Paul McCartney said the Clapton He's going to be out of tune because he stretching the strings and sure enough Hendrix was out of tone, he noticed Clapton in the audience and ask him to come up and help him retune his guitar. You cannot get any more I respect than that. Paul McCartney tells a story on the Howard Stern show
I'm sorry but after hearing the fast rock version of Layla, this slowed down easy going singer/songwriter version is vastly inferior.
PLEASE READ!!!! THERE'S A SCAM THING ON HERE. I COMMENTED ON YOUR VIDEO "LAYLA" (THE UNPLUGGED), & JUST GOT A MESSAGE THAT SAID "HIT ME UP" AND ITS REFERRING TO "TELEGRAM."
I SUGGEST YOU WARN YOUR VIEWERS!!!
It's on every comment :(
This scam happened to some of us who follow FIL Henley (@Wings of Pegasus). He mentioned it on his LS yesterday, which was a huge relief, because I had thought he was trying to contact me about an analysis I requested.
I suppose if I were you, I'd mention that this scam is happening to viewers, because I'm sure there are people who will get sucked in.
