    A few things... Kaviar isn't "raw", it's smoked. It's literally just smoked fish roe, which is why we call it "kaviar". Usually you eat it with boiled eggs on a sandwich, not as is. It's a condiment, definitely no weirder or more gross than vegemite or marmite. Nyponsoppa can be eaten warm with a dollop of vanilla ice cream in it, super-yummy. Also a good snack when you're out in the woods. Fermented herring (surströmming) and pickled herring are not the same thing. Pickled herring also isn't "raw", not anymore than pickled cucumbers are.

      Also, the nougat you generally get in the UK (the pink, sticky version) is not the same as nougat in most other countries - nougat _should_ be ground nuts (usually almond or hazelnuts, a bit of dark chocolate and some sugar. Melt it all together, put it in a pan, let it congeal, then cut little bits.

    • @mgntstr
      @mgntstr Před rokem +1

      Pickled herring is raw just like pickled cucumbers are. It is important to remember that Pickled herring, and Pickled cucumbers are in fact fermenting in the pickle juice, albeit slowly, which means that pickled herring is technically fermented herring.

      @@snorpenbass4196 There are generally two types of nougat, white nougat and brown nougat and they're quite different. Took me years to get why every time I thought I understood what nougat is, I came around the other version and was stumped again.
      White nougat is usually made from egg whites and honey, often with whole or chopped nuts like pistachios or hazelnuts in it and usually pretty chewy.
      Brown nougat is made with sugar and ground nuts (often used as a filling), sometimes chocolate, it can be crunchy or creamy and soft, similar to praliné.
      Every country makes their own version of nougat, many have another name for their speciality, companies don't care about historal accuracy, hence the fluffy filling in candy bars is often called nougat.
      If I learned something about nougat, it's the most useless description for candy, because it can be anything in the vast and versatile Venn diagram of honey/sugar, nuts and chocolate 😅

      You can buy it in certain shops in the UK, where it (Kalles) is called "smoked creamed fish roe" - because it also contains quite a bit of cream. I live partially in Sweden, and I noticed they were shopping at my local ICA grocery store.

    I like my "nyponsoppa" best warm. You can make it extra luxuary with a couple of dollops of ice cream or small almond bisquits.
    To fully enjoy food or snacks, it's pretty important to serve them with the proper accessories. To the cookies, buns and chocolate balls it should be coffee, tea or hot chocolate. To the herring it should be boiled potatoes and even better with beer and "snaps" too.
    It's close to an insult to compare "julmust"/"påskmust" with Coca cola. Only the colour has some similarity. The taste come from malt, hop and juniper berrys, but the exact recip is a secret. "Påskmust/"julmust" is always stored for at least 6 months before sale, but is getting better with longer storage. As "julmust"/"påskmust" has a strong aroma, like a tasty beer, it should be drinken from glass, so you can also feel the aroma from the foam through the nose.

    • @jokervienna6433
      @jokervienna6433 Před 8 měsíci

      The story behind Wienerbröd is not quite clear, but this is a likely version: somewhere during the 1800:s, the Danish bakers went on strike. They wanted more money for their bread. Danish rich people said "NO" and imported bakers from abroad - mostly Vienna. The viennese bakers obviously did so well in Denmark, that they got a pastry named after them: Wienerbröd. Sometime later it spread to Sweden. So, likely, viennese origin, refined in Denmark and spread to Sweden. For me, the best ones are still found in Denmark (but I do like the Swedish ones too). How do I know this? Because I´ve lived in Vienna for about a decade, and of course I wanted to try the original Wienerbröd. Surprise: it does not exist down here. No one knows what it is.

That was some weird looking tube, but i love Kalles rundiga caviar. Trocadero is ok and it is one of my ex-wifes and my doughters favourite. I rather choose Kalle Sprät kiwi soda. Double nougat is great but propably sweetest cholote bar in the planet. Just like Kinder maxi and Milky Way, very good, but way too sweet for me. All those pasties are good "kaffe bullar" and Gifflar goes with the coffee, but are nothing special. Cocos balls are good. Less sweet than Bounty bar. Those orange berries are called "tyrni" in Finnish and has own unique flavor and i like it more than cloud berries that are orange too. Cloud berries have more of sour and swampy taste and even bigger seeds than rasberries.
    But i wouldn´t say that those would be disgusting. Regular sill is propably least favourite for that sett.

      @@herrbonk3635 I know I already said it. I repeated it since it seemed as if you had missed it when you decided to use the word childish in the context, which you hadn't used before so it seemed as if you were either trying to imply something about me and the use of grym in general, or you simply had missed what I had said. So I gave you the benefit of the doubt and decided to repeat it rather than assuming that you were being, hmm, belittling towards me and others. I can see now that you were. I wouldn't be very proud of not using the word grym while also intending to be rude, ignorant and judgmental towards someone you don't even know. It's perfectly possible to both have a varied and precise vocabulary, and use slang too. It's also not childish to use slang, it's a natural relaxed part of every country's vocabulary, used in daily conversations. Someone not using slang on occasion is actually using a less varied and precise, and it seems quite boring to me to never let loose and be relaxed when speaking. It's not childish to use slang, it's a sign of maturity and intelligence, unless it's all that use. However, young people today don't speak the same language as those of us who are of older generations, very much like my generation doesn't speak the same language as the generations older than me. It's got nothing to do with being childish. It's called evolution and it's inevitable.

    I am swedish and I hate gifflar, I think they are slimey, I prefer the normal cinnamonbun instead. I am not much for the viraety of fish, but hey, it is just me. Djungelvrål is a candy many outside nordic who can eat, becouse they are so salty. Marabou is the best choclate you can eat. If you wanna try a more unusual (to find, but I find it in the store ÖoB) Vira blåtira. It´s a soda who suppose be raspberry.

    Mate, skagenröra is danish. Just because we eat it in sweden doesn't mean it's swedish, if there's reason like that ya could've just brung with ya kebab or some shit like that.
