The best Christmas movie ever.
For sure! I had no idea it took place at Christmas until I just watched it for the first time. Will watch again in 6 months and probably every holiday after until the end of time
Certainly a lot better than "Jingle All the Way" and Schwarzenegger necessitating my subtitles button.
Tom Cruise breaks through his shell and opens his heart. He learns the value of love and sharing. Very upbeat message. I cried.

Even though Kubrick didn't intend it, Eyes Wide Shut is a perfect way to close out his career. He was able to use all the skills he perfected throughout his career to create a visually haunting masterpiece. It's one of the few films I can think of that perfectly captures the feeling of being in both a dream and a nightmare with its surreal tone. Rest in Peace, Stanley Kubrick.

I’m a teen and watched it not for sex but because I’ve been told it has a strong message. It does!
I have a wrong thoughts before watched this movie (only just knew from the poster) and even Nicole Kidman :' (knew her first from this movie)
I realized the same but at the second time I watched the movie. At the first time, the only movie I has that sensation at the end was Abre Los Ojos of Alejandro Amenábar.
This movie, in my opinion, perfectly encapsulates the visceral feeling of “being in a place you are not supposed to be” and the title is the effect. Eyes Wide Shut, the trauma of witnessing the rituals leaves us wide eyed even with shut eyes. Truly chilling
Do you think the title could be mocking the general public aka the vulgar or uninitiated?

Kubrick pays homage to Beethoven in almost all of his films. I loved that he used Fidelio in this movie.
Most people are not aware it's a Beethoven symphony. I used to listen to Beethoven and draw .
@@goodangel2571 It's a Beethoven opera...his one and only and a masterpiece it was. And Cruise referenced it during their conversation in the bar if viewers listened closely.
This is Kubrick's best movie in my opinion. An absolute masterpiece.
The portrayal of secret societies is so dark and realistic at the same time. I am convinced that Kubrick wanted to show us what really happens behind the curtain.
Also the score for this movie is so haunting that I can't watch this movie alone 😅
Amazing edit by the way. You're killing it every time :)

There is scene when they are in toy store. The freakiest Uber ride I ever gave: I picked up a couple leaving a Scientology party at a massive compound deep in Bel Air. I didn't know it was a Scientology event until the guy mentioned it while arguing in the backseat with his girl, who was in a state of shock. They were both sweating profusely and tripping on some drug, which he claimed their drinks had been spiked with, and the woman was crying about getting raped by "all those guys" on a stage in the middle of a ballroom, "in front of everybody". Kubrick's masterpiece.
I want to know more about the deleted scenes of this movie following Kubrick's death. The whole ORGY scene just didn't make sense in regards to why they would want to kill someone for stumbling in upon an ordinary orgy with consenting adults. I've heard rumors that there were elements of pedofilia and/or sacrifice of adults or children that was eliminated from the release of this film, which would make more sense why they would be willing to kill someone who happened to see that and who wasn't invited nor part of the "cult."
While there's no doubt the original scene would give more context, I think the cut we got makes it as unsettling.
The fact that they must kill people who witness or disturb the cult, despite them being "consenting adults", leads us to believe something far more sinister was happening, and we saw all of it. The mind fills the blanks...
Plus, Milich's daughter does know about the cult... That should say all we need to know.

I worked on some of the sets and props for this film ( which went on for what felt like an eternity !) with constant changes from Kubrick and last minute re shoots. Apparently Tom Cruise at one point stormed off set , swearing and had to be coaxed out of his trailer to return to set as he was furious at Stanley. It was the scene where he walks up to the Rainbow fancy dress hire shop and rings the bell ( I designed and made the shop signage) It was a weird experience as we were not really aware of what this movie was about till the 11th hour. Good memories though.

@@patrickbateman1540 All I can comment on is Kubricks obsession with....what to most of us...would be pointless details. I re made 1 or 2 props several times in different versions and they appear on screen for 1 or 2 seconds in the background. All the nighttime streets scenes were filmed in central London so we had to spend much time and care in making it look like a US street.
The production was 13 months long. Apparently the longest in film history with actors. 2001 production began in December 1965 and lasted to early 1968. But much of that time was spent on special effects. I believe the scenes with actors were completed by May/June of 1966.

One of the most beautiful movie I have ever watched.
This, Kubrick's cinematic epilogue remains the epicentre of his scurpulous notions. There are lots of aspects why this film is one of my favourites. Kubrick pays an utmost attention to each character. He makes a deliberate choice, possibly, not to roll them together into an ongoing story, but to make each one a destination to give each encounter the intensity of a dream in which this moment is clear but inexplainable to remember where we've come from or guess what comes next. It's unpredictable, riddled with mystery and believably presumptive conspiracies, Kubrick touches on esoteric thematics, unfolds some secrets about high echelons of masonic lodges and deciphers the worldview in its veracious presence.
Kubrick uses unsettling, ominous and erotic themes. Shooting in a grainy high contrast style, using lots of backlighting, underlighting and strong primary colors, setting the film at Christmas to take advantage of the holiday lights, making it all a little garish, like an urban sideshow, perfectly complimenting film's specific atmosphere.
Right as the motion picture unwinds, Kubrick decorates his movie with sporadic, but very timely and fitting use of György Ligeti's Musica ricercata. Ingenious use of Jocelyn Pook's "Masked Ball", films', perhaps the most infamous scene being shown in this video, which appalls and entrances its viewer. Showing an absolute catharsis and reveals the importance of correct usage of music in cinema.
Each sequence has its own dramatic arc, avoiding all kind of cheese and unnatural sentimentalism, making each frame rather riveting, even pleasant to watch on the cost of its symbolistic decors and locations where it was shot.
Nicole Kidman, (Alice Harford), a main starlette embodies her playable character with correct facial expressions and mood. Same thing describes each and every personage playing in this film. It's exquisite, the one. Eyes Wide Shut can't be replicated, it carries a special aura, which only can be felt by watching this impeccable work of art.
This movie is such a weird and bizarre but poetic masterpiece.
This film will rattle your bones and make your knees shake.
I love all the little lights

One of my favorite films. You have done an incredible job showing the essence of it.
This quote by Stanley kubrick sums up the entire movie..."Observation Is a Dying Art"
Probably the best movie you can watch the day after christmas, when the christmas lights seems to fade a bit
The last film from great master Kubrick!👈👍👏
Excellent cinematography.
