  • Lev Polugaevsky vs Rashid Nezhmetdinov
During his career Soviet chess player Rashid Nezhmetdinov played 2 immortal games, (Polugaevsky vs Nezhmetdinov, 1958), (Nezhmetdinov vs Chernikov, 1962), but it was his game vs Polugaevsky which he called the most beautiful one! In a very complex position Nezhmetdinov makes a spectacular Queen sacrifice which allows him to start a king hunt! After chasing opponent's Queen all over the board, he forces a resignation in view of an imminent checkmate!

We investigated this yesterday in the numerous replies to Scarlatescu's solution. At first it looked like white could go into the endgame up the exchange, then it looked like white could win the whole bishop, and finally it was shown that white with best play had a whole rook advantage.
