I hear you and your experience is valid. I’m 51 mother of special needs kiddo who recently passed. I’ve worked with Danielle personally in 2020 and it was powerful and I explain it as she cracked me open, she takes you deep inside yourself and that is hard. For me I needed the cracking to be cracked out of numbness and dissociation to begin my healing process. I love the use of beloved and such but for me I think it’s why I’m drawn to the crone archetype because I am one but I was also abandoned by my mother so I find it comforting while challenging. When my son passed I immediately went back to my books and classes with her because the shock and numbness with my loss, I don’t want it to be permanent. Thank you for your insight and the depth of your review. Sometimes reviews are just fangirling and have no meat. Your thoughts provided real information. Be well

THANK YOU for mentioning the lack of actual old women.

Thanks for doing an honest review! You saved me money! Taste and priorities are different, and so is what we are looking for in decks and books. But the points you mentioned here, seem to be exactly the points that would have made me regret buying this deck.

I love Danielle's writings - The Holy Wild is my favorite and I love the Seasons of Moon and Flame. I'm almost 60 and entering my crone years - have been practicing witchcraft for 40 years and still have learned so much from Danielle. But I've also worked with her personally so I'm probably biased. Your experience with the books is, of course, totally valid because it's your experience. :D Loving your channel and how you speak your mind. I wonder if you would have a different experience if you listened to the audio book - her storytelling is magic and the whole book might make more sense that way. :D Hahah or maybe not - I'm commenting as I listen to your video and it sounds like you really don't enjoy it - for sure, it's not for everyone. :D

Oh man, I entirely agree with you on her writing style. This resonates so much with me. Her books have beautiful ideas and concepts, but her writing is difficult for me to digest. I have The Holy Wild and this book on my shelf but I still haven't made it through either.

Oh I just love her writing style. I will say that this is the best review of the deck that I have found!

I call her books the literary equivalent to The Irishman-good but could have definitely been edited down and still be enjoyable & effective.

Such an interesting idea for a book! Love that you pointed out the “sexually repressed”, I (also ace) feel the same reading certain things and was a little saddened when I realised that, for example, the Seasons of the Witch Beltane was not for me for this very reason. I love seeing what resonates with you as your interests seem very similar to mine. Thanks for another honest review!

The first book reminds me a lot of "13 original clan mothers" by J. Sams in structure and the whole idea for it.
I fucking hate it when writers do word masturbation instead of getting to the point. It's lack of respect for the reader's time. So annoying 😆

@Tarot Readings From a Bitch I'm not sure tbh. It's one of those books where I loved the Polish translation but kinda cringed at the original (i have both). A bit weird. I did go through the whole thing solo and then with a women's circle a few years back and it was amazing. But also I've heard there was some controversy around the author. So generally I'm very confused about it 😆

@@tarotreadingsfromabitch I got the Clan book when it first came out, and love it. I used it in gatherings as well, and it was very powerful. I've always loved Jamie Sams.

I don’t have either item and really don’t want to, but it was interesting to see the flip through on the cards (which just confirmed I didn’t want them. It is super annoying to me when crones are depicted as anything other than at least middle aged if not actually old women. I don’t want to go seeking crone energy and get hit with nubile “heathen” babes doing belly dance. We do have an ageist blind spot that is pervasive in all the nooks and crannies of our culture.

With you on the writing style. Too flowery for my taste. English not being my native language also this style makes me get lost in the curlicues and forget what the point of the sentence is.

Do you have any suggestions for a book that's written better but follows a similar structure to this one? I would love to work through a book cyclical like it was intended but, her writing style would have made me irritated as well 😂

@@tarotreadingsfromabitch Hope you like it! It doesn't follow the moon phases but it defo flows through the seasonal shifts over the whole year. And what I like about it actually is that it strips away pagan names for sabbats and mentions them more as 2 halfs of each season. So you can kinda assign your own sentiment to them. Beautiful art and also has oracle cards included in the back :) xXx

I seem to have an instinct for showing up here when you're talkng about crones and your interest in building some type of preparation into your current life. Guess I'm fascinated because I was like that and I'm really glad I took it seriously enough to build journaling habits and an almost ceremonial gathering supplies/books/tarot decks. if you want to do research with some depth and viable structure to it, try dipping into Angeles Arrien's Second Half of Life. You might find nourishment rather than frustration/distraction over writing tics that take you out of your hoped-for experience.

Pick up the messages from the book and work from that, personalise it to suit you own needs. No book or deck will be 100% suitable for any one. Im 61 this year and are getting a connection from her work. And we are no longer Baba Yaga toothless looking hags, we are modern and uplifting and inspirational. Maybe when you are in your elder years you will relate more with that. Move beyond the fluff in the words and pickup the message thats coming through.
