FILM DESCRIPTION:
Tree Gelbman is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she's experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter's dorm room unharmed. Remember that story from about a year ago of a girl who stabbed her roommate to death? It was in Virginia and the girl just confessed. And before the murder the girls had joked about how "hopefully they wouldn't kill each other." Yeah this stuff happens - I've heard some incredibly whack stories of female roommates

it has been awhile since i seen this movie but wasn't Tree kinda losing her ability to restart the day... like something was happening the last time or so she restarted the day... so maybe one more restart wouldn't of worked thus why it was a emphasis on not dying this time.

I think there was one unfortunate thing I realized. In the previous day, Lori was one of the people Tree tried to reconcile with. If you follow the day carefully, and if I remember it carefully, Lori never tried to have her eat the cupcake, tree just remembered it when she and Carter went to the room that night, and I think Tombs was never masked, so I feel like Lori abandoned the whole plan that day, and it wouldn't have come to this if she didn't die in her sleep.
But at the same time, I guess Lori could have throw it out after Tree left for the day. I don't know, just some thoughts that cross my mind.

One thing I love about this twist: Ruby Modine (Lori's actress) does look like she could be a physical threat to Jessica Rothe (Tree). When I rewatch the movie, I do get the sense Lori was under the Baby Face mask the entire time.
At least there were some VERY stupid tiny reasons why Lori killed Tree. Tree dated a married Professor ( who Lori liked also, EWW ), she never contacted her father, and she was mean to Carter. Even though Lori gave her a poisoned cupcake, Tree didn’t have to be so mean by throwing it in the garbage. Lori saw her as a mean b**** and was jealous of her. Even though Tree was kind enough to apologized to Lori in that timeline. At least Tree had the opportunity to change herself during thats timeline, but it didn’t help convince Lori to spare her life.
That is NOT a real reason. Being “mean” to somebody and sleeping with somebody that they had a crush on does not justify murder.
And Tree was nice to her in the timeline before that when she apologized for not being a good roommate, but she still give her the cupcake anyway, because she ended up eating it at that timeline

@kupis1408 Doesn't matters if the cake is destroyed. They can still recover it from her corpse's mouth and reconstruct it (I mean that they can guess how the cake was made). Still, it's bad, since Tree's DNA would be all over it making her look like the culprit (since she shoved a poisoned cake on her and THEN killed her).
Reconstructing the evidence isn't hard. What's hard is the police seeing Tree as the innocent party.
Tree used excessive violence. If she had just run away and called the police after poisoning her roommate, she'd have an easier time claiming self defense. Someone did hear Tree's screams after all, so she had a witness to back up her claim.
Well, there multiple signs of fight which ended on the death of the one who say to a witness that NOTHING IS HAPPENING. With that and Tree's story it would be clear.
I think the fact that it’s her birthday is pretty solid evidence that the roommate was trying to give her the cupcake 💀

Normally, I'd hate such a petty motivation, but given that the movie is a horror comedy and trying to parody how little personality some of the girl victims in movies have, it's kinda fitting. Tree goes through a whole arc of being a shallow terrible 'first victim' who exists to be killed in a slasher flick to seeing how awful she is and changing for the better while her roommate/killer is revealed to be a petty brat who kills someone over nothing. Given that the killers in most horror films are usually the most interesting part of the movie, or at least the most fun to watch, it's fitting that the parody of that is so shallow. This movie is weirdly fun.

I guess the analysis is that her deseased relative was trying to help Tree from beyond the grave, giving her second chance and change for the better.
Best killer reveal in horror movie history. I remember watching this scene in the movie theater and when Lori wouldn’t eat that cake my mom was like “eat the cake Anna Mae” Lmao 😂. Happy Death Day is so underrated this is actually one of the best horror movies we ever had in this generation.
