For those of us he grew up during the 1970s, PBS was the original Criterion or Janus Films. Every Sunday night at 9pm, or later, we got to see all the classics of the 40s, 50s, and 60s from Great Britain, France, Italy, and Japan. And no commercials! This was before laserdisc and Blu-ray. It was a free film education. Miss those days 😊

If i was rich I'd open it back up, because it sure didn't make any money the last few years before it closed. I was able to watch so many movies i otherwise would never have seen. Man, take me back.

I liked Paul Dano since "There Will Be Blood". Mr. Dano is a well-rounded actor with huge talent. I am happy that this latest role in The Batman has allowed the world to see how tremendously talented this man really is. I think it will be smooth sailing for him from here on out. I would not be surprised if he's nominated for an Oscar for his role as The Riddler. If he is nominated, it will be only the second time in the history of cinema, behind Heath Ledger and The Joker, that a comic book based character has been nominated for an Oscar. And if he were to win, also the second win, again, behind Heath Ledger and The Joker, that a comic book character took home Oscar gold. I think he has a great chance!

Always interesting how people explain their first experience with Yasujirō Ozu's art.
One like myself, having grown up with early Kubrick, or admiring Orson Welles for his work and not for some credits in filmschool, and understanding Casablanca, and also reading Osamu Tezuka next to Raymond Chandler. Then Leone, then Louis de Funes, then Carpenter, and Peckinpah in between, Steve McQueen, Sterling Hayden, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum.
Leaving out to show or say the obviously expected always was the true magic of movies. How you do it is what makes the difference. And that is what Yasujirō Ozu did, as all the other great personalties in film making did alike, doing it in a way you most certainly could tell who did it.
