  • Follow along as I use superglue to pore fill this classical guitar. I review some of the considerations when using CA glue as a pore filler while repairing guitars and what the process is like for me. I'm using GluBoost Fill n' Finish CA glue and applying it with a glove. Afterwards I'll be finishing this guitar with Tru-Oil which is a gunstock oil based finish.

I sand in between coats of superglue and after the last coat of superglue. I also sand between finish coats with this finish - lots of sanding!

You are playing with your health, dude. Why do you think this product comes in really tiny bottles? With that huge area you are working at the same time the immense amount of fumes will damage your eyes and lungs.

Noted in the video! A respirator, goggles, and proper ventilation is a must. Thanks!

@@CTrietschUkuleles I used respirators and still managed to become sensitised to superglue. Now if I use it even briefly I get bad hay-fever like symptoms for 3-4 days afterwards.

@@ColinWatters that’s terrible, sorry to hear! If you need recommendations for other pore fillers let me know - there are lots of options!

@@CTrietschUkuleles No worries. I was only using it to speed up building RC model aircraft, not as a large area pore filler, so can avoid it. Im fine with epoxy. Now if I really have to use superglue for something I have to do it outdoors so the wind blows away any fumes or suffer.

@@ColinWatters That's good to hear! I do the same when I have to use superglue - outdoors is best. I heard that people can become sensitized to epoxy too though! crazy

I tried laquer clear coat over super glue and it did not work well at all. I think just a superglue finish would have good sound though as it gets super hard. Was thinking if there was a way to spary it on would be great, but don't know? It does not sand well at all?

Sorry to hear you are having trouble! Super glue isnt going to get smooth or glossy and you won’t be able to buff it up like you would a finish. I’d also be concerned spraying it with how toxic it is - wouldnt want airborne superglue particles floating around. There are lots of different finishes though if spraying lacquer is giving you a problem, maybe a brush on or wipe on finish that sands well, looks good, and dries hard would be better! Best of luck!

      Investigate a wet sanding technique
thin your true oil and sand in the wet slurry
when it dries
sand minimally repeat until it looks like an automobile finish.

@@CTrietschUkuleles This is poor information, CA glue can polish up to a higher gloss than any "poly" type finish.
I use it for grainfilling, which is fantastic, but once filled and level sanded, many more coats can be applied until thick enough to flatten and polish.
