We all know that sadly friendships come and go, and celebs can be just as prone to best-friend breakups as the rest of us. And Demi Lovato just revealed that her on-again off-again friendship with Selena Gomez is definitively off again.
However, most of those friendships from her Disney days haven't followed her into adulthood.
Many fans have still held out hope for Demi and Selena Gomez though because these two go waaaay back. Even before being on Disney, they were on the show Barney together as kids.

I agree with you but the more I think about it the more I can see where Demi is coming from. If Selena hadn't talked to her or reached out to her in ages but eventually only does it after a Grammy performance when everyone is doing it, I'd think that's just to look good in the public eye, not that she actually cares about Demi. I'm think Demi feels like her and selena were supposed to be friends, then they don't talk anymore and the only time this supposed friend is gonna reach out to her is when it makes her look good.

Selena and Demi were childhood friends but Selena and Taylor could actually relate to each other on a personal level. This is why their friendship is still strong to this day. Selena never left Demi. Demi has said before that Selena was one of the few people that kept in touch with her while she went to rehab, but clearly she had some issues with Selena being friends with Taylor and kept that bitterness. I say this as someone who actually cared for both Demi and Selena enough to follow the things they said and did online which may not necessarily tell the full story but gives us at least a small understanding.

You know how Selena is always in and out of "anxiety rehab" or something along those lines. It's probably rehab for alcohol or drugs (I mean come on honey, Selena was in a serious relationship with JUSTIN BIEBER before he stopped using and went to Jesus and all that.) Demi has had severe issues with being an addict of sorts, using lots of cocaine and being an alcoholic. Demi has also mentioned having to cut old friends out of her life so she didn't fall back into old addictions. I'm betting Selena is one of those friends. Also Francia Raisa stopped being friends with Selena. For context, she's Selena's former best friend that literally donated her kidney for a transplant because Selena had lupus and was having kidney failure and was on her deathbed. Based on what I've heard, Selena probably shouldn't have been on her deathbed for kidney failure so long as she was CAREFUL and wasn't heavily drinking or using drugs. Word has it Francia was fed up with Selena's partying because it was damaging the kidney that she literally DONATED from her own body.

We have all have numerous ex friends that grew apart, like friends from middle school that were super close with but had different high schools and lost contact or even friends from high school too. During the friendship (especially at a young age) I’m sure there were some drama/fights here and there too.
So regardless of still having love for them and caring about each other, it gets awkward at times (especially if they didn’t part in good terms, but they were both young.)

Laoch I don’t see that at all. Who’s to say that Selena didn’t try to call or text her multiple times to be a good friend but Demi just ignored her? Tbh I think Selena just made mistakes and also she’s socially awkward just like Taylor swift. She made the mistake of using Justin for clout in the beginning of their relationship. Honestly I just think about the interview Demi had where she was explaining that when she was still with the Disney Channel, she was drinking and doing cocaine all the time and was constantly pushing people away, which is around the time that Demi and Selena were bffs. Their friendship changed probably for solely that reason. Thinking of Selena, it’s a lot of pressure to put on a teenager to still be best friends with someone that you’ve known for a long time that it’s struggling with drug addiction and an ED. That’s why it’s not surprising to me that they just grew apart because of the different lives they were living.
Finally someone who sees it. Just because Selena's never talked about partying and acts so composed people think she's so innocent. Girl is not. Demi has mentioned in the past that she had to distance herself from friends that partied because she didn't want to get dragged into addiction again.

It’s hard staying close to the friends you had when you were a teenager. You go from seeing them at school almost everyday to the real world. You grow up, get a job, form new friendships, & possibly have a gf/bf/spouse(whatever), a family, & have to alter your lifestyle. I will always have love for my 3 friends & I still occasionally talk to them(especially now do to the virus) but we won’t be hanging out any time soon.
