  • The Persian Empire was one of the most mysterious civilizations in the ancient world. Persia became an empire under the Cyrus the Great, who created a policy of religious and cultural tolerance that became the hallmark of Persian rule. Engineering feats include an innovative system of water management; a cross-continent paved roadway stretching 1500 miles; a canal linking the Nile to the Red Sea; and the creation of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Mausoleum of Maussollos.

    The dude with the black Jacket really has a hard-on for Cyrus. Not that what his saying is wrong, he just seems really excited to talk about him...

    The Persian Empire sounds like Muhammad if he ruled the equivalent of the Roman empire. I'm noticing a lot of similarities between the way they did things

    Isaiah 45: 1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
    2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

    I have to wonder about the popular view of history. How do people go from being nomads to building the greatest empire ever so quickly. You don't go from hunting to building these elaborate palaces that quickly! The glazed bricks alone took an incredible knowledge of chemistry. There's something missing.

    It's interesting that there are still Jewish scholars, whom insist Cyrus was the foretold Messiah. The Bible explicitly states the Messiah would be a military leader whom would destroy Assyria. That seems to fit Cyrus..

    @nakisa2009 Those empires are gone my friend. Their cities and palaces have crumbled to ruins in the dust. Their governments were plagued with internal treachery and outside hostile forces. Their leaders were mad with power and in turn they suffered the bloody envy of lesser comrades. They were men who wasted their short lives on vain things, only to find betrayal or defeat in the end. All that is left is their monumental footprint for us to study and learn by.

    Beats me why on just about any ancient historical empire documentaries i go to,somebody ups a passionate comment about that empire raising again,to give u one example theres was this Byzantine Empire.Now i dont have no problem with a good and intelligent ancient civilization rising again,if there were any but what i notice from all these Ancient Empire is,Materialistic pride has always crumbled to dust,we say em laying around in ruins,only the intellect carries on.Why not make our world better?

    Greeks always respects the persian civilization... Frank Miller's picture was unfair for the Persians. Greek and Persia was 2 absolutly diferrent civs. Persia was a traditional asian empire with great organization and military power, Greece make many steps forward for the improvement of position of the individual in society, was more spiritual and humanic. With respect

    You know, in the documentaries and in my history book, it always starts off "The greatest king the greatest power." So WTF! Which is it? Who is the greatest. I wish they would do that, its so damn confusing. First Cyrus is the greatest, then Darius BAAAAAA! Shut up already about the greatest! lol
