They were huge when they came out. It is true that, in retrospect, that they do not get respect. Huey Lewis is often spoken of divisively among music snobs and undeservedly so.
He is a stand-up guy. When they hit big, the record label wanted him to change his drummer, but he told them to stick it - it’s all of us or none of us.
Each of the players was very distinct in appearance and playing. The drummer just fits. Each member obviously has a great sense of humour, expressed with things the vampire teeth in this video, or the shark fin in another. Huey and the band are a unit, and they've got heart and soul.
When I worked in radio, I had the pleasure of interviewing Huey Lewis twice. As you said, he is just a regular dude who just happens to be a great entertainer. It's a shame he can't perform because of his hearing issue. He and the band cranked out so many great songs for us.
Oh, my youth ❤I loved Huey ❤This saturday we are going to have a big party wtth all the people who graduated from our highschool in 1986 🎉🎉🎉. Huey will definately be on our playlist! 😊
Power of Love and Back In Time are both in Back To The Future. His song "I Want a New Drug" 's guitar riff was lifted and used for the Ghostbusters song.
@@Romanus7867 not exactly. He was writing for Back To The Future and couldn't do Ghostbusters. The GB production the contracted Ray Parker, jr. Giving him a short time and saying, "We want something peppy like "I Want A New Drug"...
I MISS HUEY LEWIS!! Was so sad when he couldn't sing anymore - he and his band put out SO MANY GREAT TUNES!!! Most were JUST FUN SONGS!! Thanks for reacting to them, BP!!! :)
This was the first concert I went to. 1984, the Sports album was huge! The concert started with "I want a new drug." Great times! Huey is one of the nicest guys in the music industry. So many hits back in the day.
Many years ago my wife sat next to Huey in the San Francisco airport and he was very nice to her and they talked for a few minutes. Just pretty down to earth.
I saw Huey Lewis and the News back in the mid 80's. They put on one hell of a show. They played about 2 hours and didn't have an opening band. I will never forget that concert.
Love Huey, his band is sooo tight…I was a hard rock guy then I listened to Huey and his band and they are soooo damn good the guitar licks are very badass and slick as hell. 80’s was the best time to be a teen that loved music…it will probably never happen again!
His music is in Back to the Future. Huey Lewis has a cameo. He's I've of the judges in the current timeline that says Marty plays too loud. Huey dominated a certain music scene in the 80s. I'm glad you liked this one and i agree with other song requests.
Huey and his band spend most of the late 70's playing small clubs all over the US. Their first hit was Do You Believe In Love. His song Heart Of Rock N Roll is a tribute to all the cities they played before they made it big. Big fan of them, my favorite from his early music is Tell Me A Little Lie. It coincided with a break up I was going through and I gave her the 45 of the song.
They had a custom mix of "Heart of Rock N Roll" they played around here. They added the cities "Spokane, Portland Oregon" to the list. I wish I had a copy of that now... When I hear the song, I still add the words to it. Spokane is a large city in Eastern Washington state, and Portland is the largest city in Oregon.

I loved Huey Lewis and the News, especially the fact that he was a baseball player at first! So talented. I love all their songs especially Happy to be Stuck with you!!
I had the great pleasure of seeing Huey Lewis and the News in concert on several occasions. Always a spectacular show with A Lot of hit music playing. They were always on the charts in the 80s. It's just too sad that Huey can no longer sing due to his failing hearing. One thing to check out: At each concert I attended, they always had at least one song where they sang acapella. They were always AMAZING. There are a few videos of their acapella songs. Take a look.
Back to the future...he did the song for that AND played the teacher who was judging the bands in the gym and ironically told Mary McFly's band that they were "just too loud"!
Huey Lewis and the News - the ubiquitous sound of the 80's. They were EVERYWHERE throughout the 80's, and well deserved too, very tight and hard working band. This song reminds me of a girl I fell off a cliff for back in the 80's, so beautiful it hurt my heart just to think of her let alone be with her. Alas it was not meant to last but in exchange I met my wife of now 38 years and counting. "For every door that closes another one opens..."
Saw Huey in 1986! Great Band! Hit after hit! Do You Believe in Love,If this is It, Power of Love,I wanna new drug, Doin it all for my baby, Heart of Rock N Roll, Workin For a Livin,Hip to Be Square. Tons of songs!
One of the most underrated and talented bands to come out of the 80's. While they had big hits they were never given the credit they deserved for being talented musicians, writers and performers. Great riffs, harmonies and vocals by one of my favorite bands of the era. Huey had amazing songs - "Heart of Rock n Roll" , Power of Love from the Back to the Future Soundtrack", "Do You Believe in Love", "If This is It", "I Want a New Drug", "Walking on a Thin Line" and "Jacob's Ladder" to name a handful. Keep going down this rabbit hole.
I would like to recommend “I Want a New Drug”, “If this Is It”, “Walking on a Thin Line”, and “Hip to be Square”. This is one of my favorite groups. I really like and enjoy your channel!!!
Absolutely love Huey Lewis at the News! When I worked at the Fox in Denver as a DJ it was one of my fave bands to play and dance around the studio. It is so sad he can no longer sing anymore due to an illness because they are amazing!
I went through two cassette tapes before CDs came out and I’m on my 2nd one of those for these guys. I graduated in 1986 and absolutely loved Huey Lewis and the News!!! He’s also in Reba McIntyre music video “Is there life out there “ he plays Reba’s husband… I really enjoy his music…🥰🥰. And watching my favorite CZcams channel!!
They are a San Francisco Bay Area band. Growing up I went to a lot of 49’er games and they either sang the National Anthem or at half time. Great band great music!
Huey Lewis and the News is my absolute favorite band of all time. Great songwriting, great performances, just wonderful stuff all around. I honestly don't think they have a bad song in their catalog.
I say Huey Lewis in concert in 1990 He gives great live concert ... 2nd row front and center ... dig in this rabbit whole ya're gonna kind some goodies ... trust me.. White t-shirt jeans Huey rocking it
One of the best bands of the eighties. Just great pop/rock/r&b mix… great singer, great band. And Sports was one of the best albums of the 80s. The video is also “very 80s” LOL… I think that’s what’s putting you in the mind of ZZ Top and Debbie Harry.
This is off of their album "Sports". That might as well be a greatest hits collection. "The Heart of Rock & Roll" "Heart and Soul" "Bad Is Bad" "I Want a New Drug" "Walking on a Thin Line" "Finally Found a Home" "If This Is It" "You Crack Me Up" "Honky Tonk Blues" I think my favorite is "Bad Is Bad". Such an old school "doo-wop" song but still doesn't take itself too seriously.
Oh my gosh talk about fun memories of Huey Lewis music playing everywhere. They put out alot of good & fun music. He has a great sense of humor and just had fun. Thanks for reacting to this song.❤ Stay safe
As a pre-teen/teenager in the 80s, I sang along to a lot of songs that I had no idea of the meaning behind them... The best thing about reliving the good old days with my 1 friend from high school is that now when we're laughing and carrying on, my kids are with me 💛🖤It's the best of both worlds 🤘🤘
"I want a new drug"is another one of his hits from the 80s. I think it was his 1st number 1 hit. I was a teenager in the 80s, so this music was always playing on radio back then. LoL. 🙂.
LOVE Huey Lewis and the News!!! SO many great hits! The Heart of Rock and Roll, I Want a New Drug, Do you believe in Love, The Power of Love, If this is it, Working for a living, Hip to Be Square, Stuck With You, Working for a Living, Cruising.
Love Huey Lewis, just fun music. Went to his concert and hung out with a band at the club that played a lot of his stuff. Good memories and a lot of fun in the early 80’s . React to I wear my sunglasses 😎
They just launched "the Heart of Rock and Roll" on Broadway. Huey had to retire years ago due to hearing loss but he has been involved in this new project.
Loved Huey back in the 80s!!! So much fun!! Hip to be square is so great but there's so many other ones too!!! If this is it, heart of rock and roll, back in time
Huey Lewis did a concert in Weedsport New York when he had a stomach bug. He asked for a porta-potty behind the stage he was pooping between and during songs. Show must Go on!

More Huey Lewis, please! Some dynamite songs, I Want a New Drug, Heart of Rock and Roll - it goes on. Saw him in concert with, believe it or not, Stevie Ray Vaughan opening for him.
I love Huey Lewis so much!! My dad had this record and played it all the time when I was growing up! The whole sports albums is awesome! If u have seen Back to the future (I'm sure u have), Huey plays the teacher who says that Marty's band is "Just too darn loud"! 😆 He also sings the iconic song Power of love from that movie! Definitely check out Heart of rock and roll, & I want a new drug! Two of my favorites!
Huey is in Reba's video for 'Is there life out there?' strictly as an actor. He is also behind the musical on Broadway right now called 'Heart of Rock & roll', which is another of his hits.
Being diagnosed with Meniere's disease, Huey lost his ability to hear or play music. As a long time fan that truly breaks my heart. He is taking steps to stay in the business and things are looking better for him. A lover of 50-60's music, my favorite album of theirs is Four Chords and Several Years Ago. They take those songs and make them their own.
Huey Lewis and the News are the epitome of the 80’s! Telling younger generations just how huge these guys were but still be underrated in music history. Just ask Patrick Bateman! Those who know, know! 😂
I have never heard a song from Huey that wasn't just fun as heck. You will ALWAYS feel good whenever one of their songs comes on, without fail. Lots to choose from, but I will suggest "I Need a New Drug."
Ah back in my youth again. Huey was class soundtrack to an era. Your reactions are just so genuine n funny. Bringing some light to some dark times! Thank you and just love seeing you react to much of my music memories! Cc
The song Power of Love was in the movie Back to the Future . Huey was also in the movie. When Marty McFly's band was auditioning to play for a dance. The guy who stood up and said "sorry fellas its just too darned loud" was Huey
Just some general comments about your channel. I have recently spent a lot of time on reaction videos, mostly because I enjoy watching how all the "young folks" (I am 64) react to music that they never heard before, but which I hear constantly growing up and growing old. Some reaction channels are snoozers and many are simply silly, but I not only like your selection of music, but you seem to "get" the music more than most.
Huey never took himself too seriously. One reason he was so popular
One of the nicest guys in the business.
In my opinion they never got the attention they deserved. Highly underrated band. Lots of great songs.
They were huge when they came out. It is true that, in retrospect, that they do not get respect. Huey Lewis is often spoken of divisively among music snobs and undeservedly so.
One of my favorite bands.
i dont know they were huge when i was a teen
At least "The Heat of Rock and Roll" won them a Grammy.
If I remember correctly, second only to Michael Jackson in record sales in the 80s.
Tom Petty did exactly the same thing. Record labels only wanted him.
When I worked in radio, I had the pleasure of interviewing Huey Lewis twice. As you said, he is just a regular dude who just happens to be a great entertainer. It's a shame he can't perform because of his hearing issue. He and the band cranked out so many great songs for us.
Huey.... Tip of an ICEBERG. OF LEGENDARY MUSIC.... PURE 80S......

Huey and the News won the lawsuit on it and signed an NDA so it’s not talked about a lot.
When I was a kid I used to think he was saying "I want a new truck"

he is now pretty much profoundly deaf, but has written a Broadway show using his music! And the news are awesome!!!!
Loved Huey Lewis and the News in the 80's, and I love them now!!!
In the 80s if nobody was dancing at the bar The Heart of Rock and Roll would get everybody up to dance.
Huey Lewis personified the early to mid-80’s!
"Heart of Rock n' Roll" drew me in as a fan.
We had the best music back in the 70's and 80's. Love Huey Lewis

I agree with the comments that Huey & guys didn't get the recognition they deserved. Such good "rock-n-roll", their music is packed with solid tunes.
I think I remember it took them YEARS to break out as a band...they were plugging away for years, stuck to it ..and this.
Oh my God yes. HUEY!!!! Live this band. Please do more
